Thangool State School From our Principal’s Desk continued…..

Reporting As you will be aware, the disruption to school routines as a result of the Queensland government’s response to the

Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, has resulted in changes to the teaching, learning, assessment, and reporting.

The Department of Education has modified the requirements for reporting student academic achievement for Semester

1, 2020. Schools will provide a report using the information that they have available from Term 1 and Term 2, 2020. This

information will be modified from the planned assessment program as many students did not attend school for the last

week of Term 1, and they participated in a home based learning program for three to five weeks in Term 2.

The Semester 1 student reports will be emailed home on Friday 26 June. The level of achievement has been determined

using the available information about student learning and achievement from Term 1 and Term 2. Please do not

hesitate to contact your student’s teachers or me if you require further information.

Chappy Chat

Hi parents,

Wow! What a rollercoaster term this has been!

I did a really good PD a few weeks ago around online safety, run by the Australian government.

Some of the statistics they showed were quite startling. In a survey they did in 2017 across

Australia, almost 30% of the kids (aged 8-12) used the internet to talk with a stranger. 21% of the

kids shared their online information and/or passwords with people other than their parents. And

as far as our teens go, their statistic far outweighed the kids.

I don’t know about you, but these statistics really scare me. In a world that is increasing in its use

of technology and online social platforms, it is so important for our children to be taught how they

show use and interact in these spaces. Why we can do some of this at school, I believe it’s up to

you, parents, to teach them in the way you want them to go. Between now and into their teen

years, you have to opportunity to guide them and teach them how they should engage in this

online world. The eSaftey website had some great resources and guides for all ages, so if you’re

unsure about what to do, can I encourage you to check it out. It really helped me and opened my

eyes, and I’m sure it will do the same for you. https://www.esafety.gov.au

As you head into school holidays next week I hope you’re able to enjoy some down time as a

family, without having to think about school work. You really are amazing, you know that right?

And we are so blessed to have as a part of your school!

Thank you for everything you do. Go and make today amazing!

Family Fun

Lights! Camera! Action!

Do your children have a favourite movie?

Using things from around your house, why not dress up and recreate a scene from one of

their favourite movies/TV shows. You could film it for some home videos or just enjoy the

moment together. Make sure everyone in the family has a role to play.

If you find it hard to pick just one movie to re-create, why not write a few down

and pick one out of a hat? You can keep the other ideas aside for another time.

Cornflour Gloop

What you need:

6 tablespoons water

4 drops of food dye

½ cup of cornflour

Plastic bowl and spoon

Instructions:

1. Put the water into a cup or bowl. Add the food colouring to the water.

2. Add the cornflour and swirl the contents of the bowl around to mix the ingredients.

Allow to stand for a few minutes. Give the mixture a stir.

3. If the mixture is too runny, add more cornflour, if it is too thick add some water. It

should have the consistency of thick honey.

4. For a different experience, put the gloop into snap lock bag
