Volunteer! That word is often used at the ELKs. A word that sym-
bolizes what we stand for and, at the Eureka – Pacific ELKs, we have
many dedicated individuals that spend countless hours volunteering.
These people do this, not because of “fame and fortune”, but be-
cause they want to give back to the community and help those less
fortunate. I am proud to say the Eureka – Pacific ELKs volunteers
are the best in the district and maybe the state.
I would like to challenge all ELKs to volunteer at a benefit of your
choosing. This is what we do - we help the less fortunate, sponsor
our kid’s education, and support our troops and first responders.
You don’t have to volunteer at all the events, just pick one that you
feel good about - one that’s close to your heart and GO FOR IT.
You will find it’s rewarding and FUN. The friends you’ll make will last
a lifetime. See YOU at the next benefit.
The ELKs’ Point of View
To ELKs, laughter is better than tears, and a kind word more powerful
than a frown. The dream of a better world becomes reality when shaped
by enough willing hearts and hands.
Your Exalted Ruler
Jim Wall

2014-2015 Installation of Officers & Awards Cont’d
The book sale went off without a hitch. We opened the doors just after 7 am with people waiting in
line. The pace kept up with a steady flow of people looking, scanning, and buying books. The Lodge
made over $800 thanks to the help of several lodge member and friends.
A special thanks goes out to Fred & Martha Bunch, Greg & Jan Gates, Cindy Antonacci, Steve & Joann
Jefferies, KC Jimbo, Kevin Williams, a friend of Joann and a friend of Cindy's, who helped set up and
take down tables plus organize books for the sale. Steve Jefferies & Ron Lyons cooked lunch for the
hungry readers.
We are currently working on scheduling a date for a second book sale in August and will keep you all
up to date.
Again thanks to all who donated books, worked the event and got the word out to make this such a
successful event.

Elks Care Weekend Backpack Program
This program is designed to discreetly provide nutritious, child-friendly, easy-to-prepare food to
hungry children in “every-day” backpacks to take home over the weekends and out-of-school times.
The list below shows some of the benefits children receive in addition to relieving their hunger:
Eases their anxieties
Reduces absenteeism
Improves attention span
Raises academic performance
Increases self esteem
Until now the program has relied solely on donations from the community and the efforts of a small
group of volunteers who collect donations and distribute the backpacks.
Here’s how you can help!
The lodge is now accepting food and cash donations. Checks should be payable to the Eureka-
Pacific Elks with a note in the memo line that reads “Weekend Backpack Program”. At this time we ask that food donations be limited to items from the list below. Also, pop-top cans
make things easier for the children and please be aware that no glass containers can be placed in
backpacks.
(Typically each backpack contains two of each of the items above)
** Small boxes of cereal and Spaghetti noodles & sauce
(canned only) can be donated and will be distributed
when there is enough is available for all backpacks.
