Week 10, and only one week left of 2019!
Midway through the second last week of the year and the students of WaSPS continue to
excel. The WaSPS Concert last night was a magnificent community event of song,
celebration and good cheer. All the students performed with enthusiasm and passion.
Once again the community came together to experience an enjoyable evening.
It was wonderful to have the evening led by our student leaders – Maddi and Kaylee our
Performing Arts Captains. Our School Captains Kai and Tilly were offering some guided
support throughout the evening – great teamwork everyone. As always the dance groups,
band, choir and Glee Club were brilliant. As stated on the evening events like this take
some behind the scene organisation, a huge thank you is expressed to Darren, Vicky,
Michelle Vinen, Frank, Samantha and all the staff.
The WaSPS Concert is a wonderful evening to see the growth that our student leaders
make in 12 months. Kai and Tilly have been outstanding in their role as School Captains
for 2019, and this event again proving the wonderful leaders they have become. Both
captains delivering amazing reflective speeches, each humble and grateful for the
opportunity. It is now time for Kai and Tilly to pass the honour of leadership to the next
wave of student leaders for 2020. It was a pleasure to announce to the community, the
School Captains for 2020 will be Chloe and Harshini.
You may wonder the process behind electing our student leadership across the school.
All students wishing to represent the school in a leadership capacity
have had the opportunity over the past 3 weeks to work with Mrs
McCoy building skills on public speaking, writing speeches and
opportunities to rehearse their speech. A huge thank you to Katreen
for giving of her lunch time to support the students. Students
wishing to express interest in School Captain or House Captain were
required to deliver a speech to their peers. Students were given the
opportunity to also express interest for other leadership roles in writing – Buzz Captains,
Sports Captains, Performing Arts and Visual Arts Captains.
In order to determine our School Captains all the votes from their peers (year 4 and 5
students) were tallied. Students placed in the top 5 on votes from peers were circulated
to staff for voting. Staff offered a vote to the student that over the years has displayed the
School Values across all areas of school life.
Congratulations to Chloe and Harshini, you will lead us well!
