Also in acknowledging our staff and students on the night I alluded to the analogy that it takes a village to raise a child. Thank you to all of the whanau support with the staging/prop construction and painting/costuming on the tonight.

Calf Club: In today’s newsletter there are details about the first week back at school and some of the activities that students will participate in over the course of the week, as we look forward to our Ad Day on the Thursday there are a number of completions that students can complete over the holiday break. For those preparing animals, we wish you the best of luck with your final couple of week’s preparation.

Roading: This week the Ministry of Education and Board of Pyes Pa School gave consent for NZTA to a short term Licence to occupy for the duration of their planned works and design for an improved road frontage and safer access and parking is close to approval after this last meeting. A copy of the planned works is on the pin board in the office if you would like to see what is planned. As part of the works we will lose some of our current land on the school side for parking and this is the need to relocate our playground and the current PTA focus. Unfortunately we will lose some of our trees on the road boundary, however we can take solace in the fact that this will be providing a far safer access for our families and students. The current timeframe is for works to begin at the end of term 4. However, we have had confirmation that the contractors will not be completed prior to the 2020 school year. The contractors are very aware of the start date of school and are already working on a safety plan to ensure the school can remain operational and safe while the works are completed.

Gala: Don’t forget to save the date Saturday the 2nd of November. The PTA have taken on the challenge for this year and it promises to be a great community event. This will be the school’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The PTA have been working very hard this year with raised funds going towards a new playground. Picnic tables for junior lunch eating the flying fox and solar and filtration system for the pool in addition to sporting uniforms are some of the recent benefits the school has seen through the PTA’s efforts.

The Gala will take a huge amount of work and as we know, many hands make light work. This event certainly relies on the goodwill and assistance of the school community. You will see a message further on in this newsletter calling out for offers of assistance. Whether this is in the lead up to the event or managing a stall on the day, there are many ways you can help. The official request for volunteers will go out shortly so please sign up to help if you can.

Thank you to those involved and those of you who are able to help in some form or capacity we thank you for your assistance and helping to make this event a success.

Working Bee: Firewood (Can you help) October 19, 9am-12pm. We are looking for assistance with a trailer load of firewood for our gala raffle. If you have some spare time on Saturday the 19th of October from 9am-12pm your help would be greatly appreciated. The majority of the work will be ringing and splitting, so if you have a chainsaw or axe the school would welcome your help.

The land owners are donating a trailer load for the gala raffle as they are looking to clear the debris from the pine trees that have recently been logged. If you are able to assist, please call Crystel (PTA - Chairperson) on 022 045 3502. Further to that, anyone wanting firewood for themselves can call Crystel to arrange a time, as the owners are more than happy for people to take a load of their own for a donation of $20 to the school. Holidays: I would like to take the opportunity to extend to everyone a safe and relaxing holiday. A reminder that school starts again on Monday the 14th of October. Deirdre will be available in the school office on Friday October the 11th for any requirements, queries or assistance you may need prior to Term 4 commencing. As we close on another busy and full term we can reflect on the wonderful achievements and wish our students a well-deserved break.

We have one last push next term with the big Gala event and also a school disco for all the students. Don't forget the Kids Art is at the office for viewing and order forms will go home at the start of next term. These make wonderful Christmas gifts and are available to order until Week 2 in Term 4 so as to ensure we get these back before school closes. If you are planning on a break anytime soon don't forget to check out the House of Travel Bazaar being held in the school holidays - lots of deals to be had. The PTA are looking forward to the School Gala being held at the school on Saturday 2nd November - check out the event created on Facebook by the PTA for updates as the event gets closer. If you wish to be a School Gala Sponsor or are available to help set up, pull down or able to help with a time to run a stall for a period please contact the PTA on [email protected]. We are also hoping to have a White Elephant stall for the event - if you have any second hand goods that you do not require then check out the picture below for information on who to contact. Hope the holiday break is a fab one for you all! Thanks again, from your PTA.
