P&C Update

Mothers Day

I hope all of our mums had a happy and enjoyable Mothers’ Day on Sunday with their

children and loved ones. I am sure you would have enjoyed some little surprises from

the P & C Mother’s Day stall after the children thoughtfully selected something just

right for their mums.

Thank you to Katie for sourcing and organising this lovely range of gifts and to the fol-

lowing sponsors for supporting our school.

Walk Safely to School Day

National Walk Safely to School Day is on Friday 17 May 2019. Now in its 20th year,

the annual campaign and community event encourages all primary school chil-

dren, their parents and carers to walk and commute regularly and safely to

school. As part of the campaign parents are reminded “Until they’re ten, children

must always hold an adult’s hand when crossing the road”. More information can

be found at www.walk.com.au

Parking around School We would like to remind all our parents about parking safely and legally when col-

lecting and dropping off the children, both at the start and end of the day.

We respectfully ask our parents and other family members to be mindful of pri-

vate driveways, ‘keep clear’ and ‘no parking’ road markings. It is also important

that we park safely in ways that do not restrict clear views of safe places to cross

the road. This morning a parent was parked across the children’s crossing making

it extremely dangerous to crossing users and motorists. If we expect our children

to follow society expectations we as adults need to do the same. To amend a

quote from Monsters Inc “Your Children are always watching you—always watch-

ing.” You are their model of behaviours and expectations.

The road law concerning crossings is - you must not stop your vehicle on or within

20 metres before and 10 metres after a children's' crossing or pedestrian crossing.

Staff Car Park Safety

Please be reminded that for the safety of our students, the staff car park is out of

bounds for students at all times, even if supervised by parents. Please use the kiss

and drop zones outside the school as required.

Thank you.

Social Media Accounts

At our school, we have children as young as 8 who have Instagram and other social media accounts. While

this is primarily an issue for parents to deal with, the school will step in when what happens on line en-

croaches on our daily school life.

Instagram seems to be the main social media app used at present. This is designed for 13+ years of age.

Below are taken directly from the Terms & Conditions of Instagram.

“Your Commitment to Instagram

You must be at least 13 years old or the minimum legal age in your country to use Instagram.

You can't impersonate others or provide inaccurate information.

You don't have to disclose your identity on Instagram, but you must provide us with accurate and up to date

information (including registration information). Also, you may not impersonate someone you aren't, and you

can't create an account for someone else unless you have their express permission.

You can't violate (or help or encourage others to violate) these Terms or our policies, including in particular

the Instagram Community Guidelines, Instagram Platform Policy, and Music Guidelines.

You can't post private or confidential information or do anything that violates someone else's rights, includ-

ing intellectual property.

Permissions You Give to Us

When you share, post, or upload content that is covered by intellectual property rights (like photos or videos)

on or in connection with our Service, you hereby grant to us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sub-

licensable, worldwide license to host, use, distribute, modify, run, copy, publicly perform or display, translate,

and create derivative works of your content (consistent with your privacy and application settings).

You can end this license anytime by deleting your content or account. However, content will continue to ap-

pear if you shared it with others and they have not deleted it.

You give us permission to show your username, profile picture, and information about your actions (such as

likes) or relationships (such as follows) next to or in connection with accounts, ads, offers, and other spon-

sored content that you follow or engage with that are displayed on Facebook Products, without any compen-

sation to you.

You agree that we can download and install updates to the Service on your device.

Thank you

With there only being about 6 weeks until the school fete, I’d like to say thank you in advance to everyone working on the fete. Ruth Wicks and her fabulous team have been working hard behind the scenes to get the fete organised, it’s going to be a wonderful day. Each class liaison or other class rep have been working on setting up the class stalls. There will be opportunities for each and every family to contribute to the fete. I encourage you to keep 30th June free in your diary.

Election Day BBQ

I’ve had quite a few people ask me if we’re running an election day democracy sausage on Saturday. The

short answer is no. We had no one volunteer to run the event and decided, given the fete is only 6 weeks

away to leave it for this year. Please support Cowan PS or Berowra PS if you’re after a democracy sausage.
