Once again I ask that you arrive a little earlier, use another school entrance, walk to school and always follow the road and traffic rules. Please also remember that the carpark is for staff only from 7:30am, with a strict 20km/h speed limit. Once again our local residents are contacting me to ask for our assistance as school families continue to block driveways and even park directly in local residents’ driveways!! I will again be contacting the local council and police. Could I please ask that if you do see school families doing the wrong and often hugely dangerous thing, that you report their name and or number plate to me. Unfortunately it is only a small minority of selfish people who jeopardise the safety of many. Together we need to ensure the safety of our students and the rights of our local residents (many of who are elderly). Traffic and pedestrian safety around our school is the responsibility of us all!! IGA Donation Special thanks to James and the team at IGA Collaroy Plateau who kindly presented a cheque to our school recently. This money was part of the IGA Community Chest organisation who regularly donate funds to community organisations. Thank you to all the wonderful team at IGA Collaroy Plateau!! Kindergarten 2017 Dates We have now planned the dates for school tours and information nights for our 2017 Kindergarten. Please see the flyer in this week’s newsletter and let your friends and neighbours know. We will soon send flyers to our local pre schools and Kindergartens. Uniform change over date Please be advised that the change over date for winter school uniform is the start of Term 2. NAPLAN Years 3 & 5 - May 10-12 Students in Years 3 and 5 received a separate email last week regarding the upcoming NAPLAN tests on May 10-12. If your child will need to have any special considerations during the testing process please let your class teacher know as soon as possible. Inappropriate toys and belongings at school Of late some students have been bringing in toys and some inappropriate things from home. Please have a quick check of your child’s bag to ensure that only relevant possessions are brought to school. Unfortunately disputes and disagreements can occur when personal possessions become a point of interest or are misplaced at school. Thank you for your assistance in this area. School Program Fees The special prize draw was made on Monday. Congratulations to the Flutey family who won the IPad and the Nitch and Fannell families who won dinner vouchers. Reminder notices for school fees will be sent out early in Term 2. Anzac Day Service The school will be having a K-6 Anzac day service on Thursday April 28 at 2.30pm. Please be advised that Term 2 commences for all students on Wednesday 27 April after Anzac Day and the Staff Development Day. Have a wonderful holiday period with your family and friends. WHPS Pathways Through Life

As a part of our ‘Linking boys and girls education to the community’ initiative, we will be beginning a new program to be held twice each term in our 3-6 assemblies. We are inviting dads and mums to share their stories of the pathways they chose through their lives, particularly in reference to educational choices, which led them to the careers they are in today. There should also be mention of how the skills they learnt in school are relevant and used in their jobs. We only require a 5 to 10 minute presentation to the assembly and will roster people on according to their availability. We would love to hear from a range of professions between now and the end of the year, so please contact Mrs Armstrong via email or leave a message at the school office if you are willing to participate.

SPORT NEWS PSSA Autumn/Winter Competition Trials will conclude this week, weather permitting. Students will need to listen for announcements in regards to trial times and locations for the following sports: * Senior and Junior Boys Rugby League * Senior and Junior Girls Netball * Girls and Boys Soccer * Senior and Junior Mixed AFL Students have nominated themselves to trial and recorded their preferred sport. They will be allowed to trial for a maximum of two sports. Reminder that trials are open to seniors (students turning 11 and 12) and juniors (students turning 9 and 10). Due to Rugby League being a contact sport, students trialling for Rugby League must complete the permission to tackle note that has been sent home. Copies can be found on the school website. It has been great to see the amount of students getting in and having a go at the various sports that are on offer. With a total of just over 160 students that will be selected in teams for the autumn/winter season, coaches and selectors have their work cut out for them! Please be mindful that teams will not be announced until early next term. The winter season kicks off week two, term two.
