Follow us : Facebook and Twitter Tenambit Public School Tenambit2323 Monday, 30 March 2020 From the Principal I'm sitting and wondering how to start this week's newsletter message. Watching the news unfold all over the world and in our country, makes you wonder how the next few weeks is going to go. It's easy to get bogged down in the bad news and hysteria and forget the good things that still continue to happen. This is a time where neighbours can connect, where neighbourhoods show just what they can be, where families spend more quality time together. It's been a very fast paced couple of weeks with last week a real learning curve not only for you as parents, but for us as educators. Lesson delivery is getting turned around, has gone sideways and flipped on its head. Our teaching staff has learned lots of new ways of connecting with their students, new ways to prepare learning, new ways to deliver content. They will be immersed in this learning over the next couple of weeks, getting ready for what Term 2 may look like. The bonus of this is the understanding of new methods of teaching which will stay as part of the way education will look. There are a lot of benefits when we look for them, not only for teachers but for our kids and you as family supports in learning. Thank you for getting back to us so quickly in completing our survey sent out on Friday. The results of this will let us know what to plan for, what our kids and their families need and how best to support everyone. If you haven't yet replied, please do so by Tuesday afternoon. Most of our teachers will be working at home from this point forward, still immersed in supporting our kids, still connecting with each other to develop learning experiences and still working hard. This also means however, that minimal school staff will be at school on any given day as I think it's important for our teachers to be able to support their own families and children as well, while supporting yours. As our Tenambit School Community has been strongly supportive of keeping children at home if there's the capacity to do so and staying at home themselves, we have very few students attending school through the week. Our teachers will be checking in with their students throughout the week and if you would like to contact your child's teacher about anything at all, please don't hesitate to email the school and we'll pass it on to teachers. Remember that the work that's sent home each week for students to do is revision work only, it doesn't have to be taught, you don't have to home school, this is 'at home learning'. The children who do come to school are doing exactly the same work that is sent home. I've attached some further information to this week's newsletter which may help families should they need it. There's a list of support phone numbers for agencies along with a story which may explain the COVID-19 virus to our younger children. It's important that kids understand what's happening, some of them are concerned and even scared. It's also important that they stay at home during this and not go out in public. If you need anything we may be able to help with, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Look after you, your family and our community. From the Principal

I'm sitting and wondering how to start this week's newsletter message.

As our Tenambit School Community has been strongly supportive of keeping children at home if there's the capacity to do so and staying at home themselves, we have very few students

attending school through the week. ICAS 2020 Notes were attached to the Newsletter last week for any student who wishes to participate in the 2020 ICAS UNSW Exams. Although these assessments will not take place until Term 3, closing date for payments is due by 24th June. All parent payments must be made on line through the ICAS parent portal as indicated on the note. No late payments for entries will be accepted. Melody Henry ICAS Coordinator Year 6 Shirts Notes were sent home two weeks ago regarding ordering and paying a deposit for the Year 6 shirts. If your child is absent and has not received a note, your payment can still be made online through the School website, and a copy of the note can also be emailed if necessary.

Emotions are exciting! K-6 Green have been busy learning about emotions and how they influence our choices and behaviour. Within this study we have incorporated reading, writing, communication skills and art into our understanding of sadness, joy, anger and disgust.

As the newest class to Tenambit Public School we have settled in and have enjoyed getting to know each member of our class with social skills games that embeds maths into our learning. Some members of our class participated in the Athletics Carnival where we showed great sportsmanship, enjoying our day getting to know the wider school community.
