Novena To The Holy Spirit

O Holy Spirit, O my God, I adore Thee, and acknowledge, here in Thy divine

Presence, that I am nothing and can do nothing without Thee. Come, great

Paraclete, thou Father of the poor, Thou Comforter the best, fulfill the promise of our

Blessed Savior, Who would not leave us orphans, and come into the mind and the

heart of Thy poor, unworthy creature, as Thou didst descend on the sacred day of

Pentecost on the holy Mother of Jesus and on His first disciples. Grant that I may

participate in those gifts which Thou didst communicate to them so wonderfully, and

with so much mercy and generosity. Take from my heart whatever is not pleasing to

Thee, and make of it a worthy dwelling-place for Thyself. Illumine my mind, that I

may see and understand the things that are for my eternal good. Inflame my heart

with pure love of Thee, that I may be cleansed from the dross of all inordinate

attachments, and that my whole life may be hidden with Jesus in God. Strengthen

my will that I may be made conformable to Thy divine Will and be guided by Theyholy inspirations. Aid me by Thy grace to practice the divine lessons of humility,

poverty, obedience, and contempt of the world, which Jesus taught us in His mortal

life.

O, rend the heavens and come down, consoling Spirit! That inspired and

encouraged by Thee, I may faithfully comply with the duties of my state, carry my

daily cross most patiently, and endeavor to accomplish the divine will with the

utmost perfection.

Spirit of love! Spirit of purity! Spirit of peace! Sanctify my soul more and

more, and give me that heavenly peace which the world cannot give. Bless our Holy

Father the Pope, bless the Church, bless our bishops and priests, all religious orders,

and all the faithful that they may be filled with the spirit of Christ and labor earnestly

for the spread of His kingdom.

O Holy Spirit, Thou Giver of every good and perfect gift, grant me, I beseech

Novena To The Sacred Heart Of Jesus

Divine Jesus, You have said, “Ask and you shall receive; seek and you shall

find; knock and it shall be opened to you.” Behold me kneeling at Your feet, filled

with a lively faith and confidence in the promises dictated by Your Sacred heart to

Saint Margaret Mary. I come to ask this favor: [ mention your request ].

To whom can I turn if not to You, Whose Heart is the source of all graces and

merits? Where should I seek if not in the treasure which contains all the riches of

Your kindness and mercy? Where should I knock if not at the door through which

God gives Himself to us and through which we go to God? I have recourse to You,

Heart of Jesus. In You I find consolation when afflicted, protection when persecuted,

strength when burdened with trials, and light in doubt and darkness.

Dear Jesus, I firmly believe that you can grant me the grace I implore, even

though it should require a miracle. You have only to will it and my prayer will begranted. I admit that I am most unworthy of Your favors, but this is not a reason for

me to be discouraged. You are the God of mercy, and You will not refuse a contrite

heart. Cast upon me a look of mercy, I beg of You, and Your kind Heart will find in

my miseries and weakness a reason for granting my prayer.

Sacred Heart, whatever may be Your decision with regard to my request, I

will never stop adoring, loving, praising, and serving You. My Jesus, be pleased to

accept this my act of perfect resignation to the decrees of Your adorable Heart,

which I sincerely desire may be fulfilled in and by me and all Your creatures forever.

Grant me the grace for which I humbly implore You through the Immaculate

Heart of your most sorrowful Mother. You entrusted me to her as her child, and her

prayers are all-powerful with You.

Holy Mother of the Church, Mary, ever-virgin, our Perpetual Helper and the

Treasurer of Divine Providence, humbly we ask you to use the unlimited power that

God has given to you for goodness and mercy in our present need [ name it ].

Our Lady of Victory, eternally wedded to the Holy Spirit, continually draw

goodness and profit from our human efforts. Be our success! Fill us with the love of

virtue, give our hearts a deep longing to hear the true word of God and to do His

The History Of Our Lady Of Good Remedy

800 years ago Christians were being captured by the Moslems and sold intoslavery by the thousands, and nobody knew what to do about it. Then, in the year1198, a man had an idea. St. John of Matha founded the Trinitarians to go to theslave markets, buy the Christian slaves and set them free.

To carry out this plan, the Trinitarians needed large amounts of money. So,they placed their fundraising efforts under the patronage of Mary. They were sosuccessful that, over the centuries, the Trinitarians were able to free thousands andthousands of people and to return them safely home.

In gratitude for her miraculous assistance, St. John of Matha honored Marywith the title of “Our Lady of Good Remedy.” Devotion to Mary under this ancienttitle is widely known in Europe and Latin America, and the Church celebrates herfeast day on October 8. Our Lady of Good Remedy is often depicted as the VirginMary handing a bag of money to St. John of Matha.

When in need – for whatever reason, but especially where you have haddifficulty obtaining help – invoke the aid of Our Lady of Good Remedy, and you willsurely experience the power of her intercession.

Powerful Novena To St. Joseph

O, Saint Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the

throne of God, I place in you all my interest and desires. O, Saint Joseph, do assist

me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual

blessings, through Jesus Christ, Our Lord, so that, having engaged here below your

heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of

Fathers.

O, Saint Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your

arms; I dare not approach while he reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name

and kiss his fine head for me and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying

breath.

Saint Joseph, Patron of Departing Souls, pray for me.

According to the story, the following prayer was sent from the Pope to Emperor Charles in 1505 as he was readying to go into battle. “Whoever shall read this

prayer or hear it or keep it about themselves, shall never die a sudden death, or bedrowned, nor shall poison take affect on them; neither shall they fall into the handsof the enemy, or shall be burned in any fire or shall be overpowered in battle.

O faithful virgin and glorious martyr, St. Philomena, who works so manymiracles on behalf of the poor and sorrowing, have pity on me. Thou knowest the

multitude and diversity of my needs. Behold me at thy feet, full of misery, but full of

hope. I entreat thy charity, O great Saint! Graciously hear me and obtain from God

a favorable answer to the request which I now humbly lay before thee . . . [ Here

specify your petition .]

I am firmly convinced that through thy merits, through the scorn, the

sufferings and the death thou didst endure, united to the merits of the Passion and

death of Jesus, thy Spouse, I shall obtain what I ask of thee, and in the joy of my

heart I will bless God, Who is admirable in His Saints.

The Story of St. Philomena

On May 25, 1802, excavators in the ancient Catacomb of St. Priscilla in Romecame upon a well-preserved shelf tomb sealed with terra-cotta slabs in the mannerusually reserved for nobility or great martyrs. The tomb was marked with threetiles, inscribed with the following confusing words: LUMENA/PAXTE/CUMFI.

However, if one places the first tile last and separates the words properly, the veryintelligible sentence emerges: Pax tecum, Filumena , which is “Peace be with you,Philomena.” Also inscribed on the tiles were symbols: a lily, arrows, an anchor anda lance, which would appear to indicate virginity and martyrdom. Inside the coffinthere were discovered the remains of a girl of about twelve or thirteen years of age,along with a vial or ampulla of her dried blood.

Transferred to the Treasury of the Rare Collection of Christian Antiquity in theVatican, the remains were soon forgotten by the public, especially since no recordexisted of a virgin martyr named Philomena. But in 1805, a Neapolitan priest, DonFrancesco di Lucia, traveling to Rome with his newly appointed bishop, requestedand, after a brief delay, received the relics of this martyr “Philomena” to enshrine inhis village church at Mugnano, near Naples.

Immediately upon the official donation of St. Philomena’s sacred remains,signal favors began to be granted through her intercession and unusual events tooccur. The favors, graces and even miracles, started to increase, even before herenshrinement of Mugnano, and they steadily grew in number thereafter – such thatthis virgin martyr soon earned the title, “Philomena, Powerful with God.” In 1837,only 35 years after her exhumation, Pope Gregory XVI elevated this “Wonder-Workerof the Nineteenth Century” to sainthood. In an act unprecedented in the history of Catholicism, she became the only person recognized by the Church as a Saint solelyon the basis of her powerful intercession, since nothing historical was known of herexcept her name and the evidence of her martyrdom.

St. Philomena has been successfully invoked by her supplicants in every sort of need,such that she has become another patron of “hopeless” and “impossible” cases, likeSt. Jude or St. Rita, but she is known to be especially powerful in cases involvingconversion of sinners, return to the Sacraments, expectant mothers, destitutemothers, problems with children, unhappiness in the home, sterility, priests and theirwork, help for the sick, the missions, real estate, money problems, food for the poorand mental illness. But truly, as her devotees have discovered, no case, of whatevermatter, is too trivial or too unimportant to concern her.

Among her most devoted clients was St. John Vianney (the Cure’ of Ars), whosechildlike devotion to this virgin Saint played an intimate part in his daily life. OtherSaints who were always devoted to her, prayed to her and sang her praises were St.Peter Julian Eymard, St. Peter Chanel, St. Anthony Mary Claret, St. Madeleine SophieBarat, St. Euphraisa Pelletier, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, St. John NepomuceneNeumann, Blessed Anna Maria Taigi and Ven. Pauline Jaricot.

A number of Popes have also shown remarkable devotion to St. Philomena as well:Pope Leo XII (1823-1829) expressed the greatest admiration for this unknown child-saint and gladly gave his permission for the erection of altars and churches in herhonor. Pope Gregory XVI (1831-1846), who authorized her public veneration,showed his esteem and devotion to the Saint by giving her the title of “Patroness of the Living Rosary.” A Mass and proper Office in her honor were approved by him in

1834 or 1835. This is an extraordinary privilege granted to comparatively fewSaints. Pope Pius IX (1846-1878) proclaimed her “Patroness of the Children of Mary.” Pope Leo XIII (1878-1903) made two pilgrimages to her shrine before hiselection to the papacy. After he had become the Vicar of Christ, he gave a valuablecross to the sanctuary. He approved the Confraternity of St. Philomena and laterraised it to an Arch-confraternity (which is still headquartered at her shrine at

Mugnano, Italy). Pope St. Pius X (1903-1914) spoke warmly of her and manifestedhis devotion to her in various ways. Costly gifts were given by him to her shrine.

Truly, St. Philomena is a powerful intercessor – seemingly held quietly in reserve byOur Divine Lord during these many centuries – for especially strong help in ourtimes, when so much confusion and absence of faith are manifest. Her principalfeast day is August 11. St. Philomena, powerful with God, pray for us!

O glorious Saint Therese, whom Almighty God has raised up to aid and

counsel mankind, I implore your Miraculous Intercession. So powerful are you in

obtaining every need of body and soul our Holy Mother Church proclaims you a “Prodigy of Miracles . . . the Greatest Saint of Modern Times.”

Now I fervently beseech you to answer my petition [ mention here ] and to

carry out your promises of spending Heaven doing good upon earth . . . of letting fall

from Heaven a Shower of Roses. Henceforth, dear Little Flower, I will fulfill your plea

“to be made known everywhere” and I will never cease to lead others to Jesus

through you.

Saint John Marie Baptist Vianney, you were born of a deeply religious mother.From her you received the Holy Faith; you learned to love God and to pray. At ayoung age, you were seen kneeling in the front of the statue of Mary. Your soul wassupernaturally carried towards the things on High. Despite the high cost, youanswered your vocation!

Against many obstacles and contradictions, you had to fight and suffer tobecome the perfect priest which you were. But your deep spirit of faith supportedyou in all these battles. 0 Great Saint, you know the desire of my soul. I would liketo serve God better; from Him I have received so many good things. For this, obtainfor me more courage and especially the depth of faith.
