The Best Film I Have Ever Seen

Lots of people find watching films one of the best ways ofspending their leisure time.

Due to numerous video facilities, which have emerged in thiscountry over the past years, we have a chance to watch themost popular and new films. Sitting in a comfortable armchairone can enjoy watching detective stories and westerns, horrorfilms or screen versions of books.

As for me, I am like all my friends always impressed by filmsscreened after a book. Moreover, I find it enjoyable to rereadthe book which I don't remember very well to be able tocompare it with the screen version.

The film "Emma" with Gwyneth Paltrow as a leading actress isthe screen version of the book written by the popular Englishwoman-writer Jane Austen in 1816.

Although many books of Jane Austen are about finding theperfect husband, she never married. She lived most of her lifewith her mother and sister.

The plot of this film tells us about a very attractive and cleverwoman; Emma decides that she wants to help people to have alife that is as perfect as hers. When she meets Harriet who is notas bright as she is and not as cultured as she is, Emma decidesto try to improve her and help her find love.

Harriet is admired by Robert Martin, a local farmer. Harriet likeshim too but Emma does not think he is good enough for her andtells her to reject him.

Emma tries to match Harriet with someone else called Mr. Eltonwho is the local vicar. Unfortunately, the vicar does not fall in

love with Harriet. He falls in love with Emma instead. Emmaangrily rejects him. Emma is not always perfect. She oftenmakes mistakes. One of the most memorable scenes in the filmoccurs at a picnic. Emma is irritated by a woman who is veryboring so she tells her how boring she is.

During the film, Emma argues a lot with Mr. Knight-ley but thenshe discovers that she is in love with him. Unfortunately, she isnot the only one. Harriet is in love with him too.

Luckily, the story ends happily for everyone. The film is veryamusing. My dream now is to read this book in the original, thatis, in English.

    My Home is My Castle

I think, every person always dreams about the place where hecan speak about his problems, chat with close friends, where he

can feel happy and quiet. For me it is my family and my home.It is the best place in the world and my dearest people live here.My family is not large we are 4. I have a father, a mother and abrother. We all live together in a new flat. My father is 45. He isa tall and well-built man with short black hair and grey eyes. Heis quiet and hardworking. Really, he is a bread maker of thefamily. Dad is handy with many things. His hobby is fixingeverything at home. My mother is very lively. She is life and soulof the family. She is a pleasant woman of forty with beautiful

chestnut hair and dark brown eyes. She is a lofty ideal for me.My parents have been married for 20 years they have much incommon, in everyday life Dad is impractical and needs motherto look after him. Parents have different views on music, books, films. For example, my father likes horror films and my fatherlikes . My father is a football fat and Mum doesn't like sports. But they try to have the same opinion about the education andupbringing of their children. My brother is only 11. He goes toschool. He is funny and curious. He is constantly asking many

questions often silly ones. But this only a moment - I can'timagine my life without our little monster. We all feel happywhen we are together. In the evenings we often have littlegatherings in the kitchen by the cup of tea, chatting, laughingand discussing the events of the day. Those evening are thebest of all. But sometimes I have problems with my parents. They don't like the clothes I wear the music I listen to and thefriends I bring home. It's not easy to be a teenager. In summerI visit my Granny. I love her when I was a child she used to tellme fairytales and stories of her life. My parents are hardworking. They combine work with housekeeping. Mum manages ourhousehold very well. We all are in the habit of helping her to runthe house. They say . My home is a cosy place. Our relativesand friends like to come to our place. My parents are veryhospitable everybody feels at home in their flat. Really.

too early, do your homework or think of troubles which occurvery often at school.

Most of all I liked summer holidays, they were the longest ones, though, when winter was snowy and and frosty, I enjoyed mywinter holidays skating and skiing, sledging and making asnowman or having a fight with snowballs.

I'd like to tell you about my summer holidays I spent in Sochi. Itwas just three years ago. My parents and me were sitting in theliving-room discussing our plans for the summer holidays. Myfather suggested that we should go to Sochi. On hearing that I

jumped up with joy and said it was a wonderful idea. My motherwasn't against the idea either.

So one summer morning we started for our journey to Sochi.

First, we travelled to Odessa by plane and from there we got toSochi by boat. We stayed in Odessa for three days, our relativeslive there and they gave us board and lodging. So we had anexcellent opportunity to go round the city, to see beautifulmonuments to the famous people who had lived in Odessa, museums and the Odessa Opera House.

We enjoyed our trip from Odessa to Sochi. The Black Sea wascalm. We sat on deck in the lounge chairs and looked at the sea.

I like Sochi very much, we bathed and went boating and swim-ming, lay in the sun on the beach. In the evenings we went for awalk or dropped in at a cafe to have ice-cream or juice. Myfather showed us the famous Botanical Gardens, we went forhikes in the mountains, we saw the magnificent AuguraWaterfalls.

The sea was nice and warm. The weather was fine. When itwastime to go home, we were sorry to leave the marvellous town ofSochi.

    Travelling

Modern life is impossible without travelling. Thousands of peopletravel every day either on business or for pleasure. They cantravel by air, by rail, by sea or by road.

Of course, travelling by air is the fastest and the mostconvenient way, but it is the most expensive too. Travelling bytrain is slower than by plane, but it has its advantages. You can

see much more interesting places of the country you aretravelling through. Modern trains have very comfortable seats.

There are also sleeping cars and dining cars which make eventhe longest journey enjoyable. Speed, comfort and safety arethe main advantages of trains and planes. That is why manypeople prefer them to all other means.

Travelling by sea is very popular. Large ships and small riverboats can visit foreign countries and differentplaces of interestwithin their own country.

As for me, I prefer travelling by car. I think it's very convenient. You needn't reserve tour tickets. You needn't carry heavysuitcases. You can stop wherever you wish, and spend at anyplace as much time as you like.

Every year my friend and I go somewhere to the South forholidays. The Black Sea is one of the most wonderful places

which attracts holiday-makers all over the world. There aremany rest-homes, sanatoriums and tourist camps there. But it isalso possible to rent a room or a furnished house for a couple ofweeks there. Sometimes, we can place ourselves in a tent onthe sea shore enjoying fresh air and the sun all day long.

As a rule, I make new friends there. In the day-time we playvolleyball, tennis, swim in the warm water of the sea andsunbathe In the evening I like to sit on the beach watching the

sea and enjoying the sunset. I'm fond of mountaineering. So Ido a lot of climbing together with my friends. Time passesquickly and soon we have to make our way back. We returnhome sunburnt and full of impressions.

    Books in Our Life

Nowadays it's almost impossible to imagine our life withoutbooks. Perhaps, there are more books on our planet than menalive. Long before the invention of printing people valued booksas treasure troves of the human knowledge and experience.Hand - written manuscripts took months of writing and werecollected by and kept in monasteries with utmost care. We candistinguish books between three classes of them. Firstly, bookson different branches of knowledge, works by brilliant minds ofmankind. Secondly, textbooks, reference books and numerousdictionaries. And at last, books of all kinds and genres to read atleisure.

Classics should be taken a little at a time. One's understandingof books by Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, Mopassan and Balzakdepends one's age and experience.

Serious books are to be read conscientiously and maybe morethan once. To a thinking reader they will provide new food forthought every time he rereads it. Many people indulge in readingscience fiction, fantasy or detective stories. Of course, there aresome advantages and disadvantages of this kind of literature,

often reffered to as "easy reading". As for me, good sciencefiction and fantasy develop imagination, logical thinking, broaderone's outlook. The same could be said in favour of detectivestories. They reveal such minute details of everyday life in thisor that particular country that are of greatest interest for acurious reader. The masterpieces of this genre by Sir ArthurConan Doyle, Agatha Christie and others, show the depths ofpsychological analysis, the insight into the human nature.

As an old saying goes, man cannot live on bread alone. Booksare the source of knowledge and the means of self -perfection.Sometimes it is difficult to solve some problems in life. I thinkthat books can help us. Books must be our friends during all ourlife.

    My FavouriteBook

My favourite book is "Robinson Crusoe" by Daniel Defoe. D.

Defoe (1660-1731)was a great master of realistic detail. Thenovel "Robinson Crusoe" was written in 1719. The novel ispraise to human labour and the triumph of man over nature.Defoe shows the development of his hero. At beginning of thestory we see an unexperienced youth, a rather frivolous boy,who then becomes a strong-willed man.

Robinson Crusoe's most characteristic trait is his optimism. Hisguiding principle in life become "never say die" and "in trouble tobe troubled is to have your troubles doubled' He had confidence

in himself and in man. He believed it was within the power ofman to overcome all difficulties. Crusoe was an enthusiasticworker and always hoped for the best.

Defoe is a writer of the Enlightenment. He teaches people howto live, he tries to teach what's good and what's bad.

His novel "Robinson Crusoe" is not only a work of fiction, anaccount of adventures, a biography and an educationaalpamphlet. It is a study of man, a great work showing man in

relation to nature and civilization as well as in relation to labourand private property.
