Teddy Roosevelt Impersonator to Visit Sonnenberg Village
Five buildings have been moved to the Sonnenberg Village site. Besides those five, how many buildings can you think of that have been “on the move” in the Kidron area? Where were they originally located, and where were they moved to? Are they still there? Houses, businesses, churches, schools–anything goes.
To jump-start your thinking, try pondering the following questions:W1. hat is the most recent house that was moved, and where to?Who arranged to have their house moved after their death?2. What house was moved from behind a business, and where is it now?3. What building was moved over a hundred years ago, and how was it used?4. Who still lives in the house he/she grew up in, though it was moved?5. What house in the Sonnenberg valley was moved, but stayed in the valley?6. Where was the Grossenbacher house, and where did it get moved to?7. What building was cut in half in order for it to be moved to a new location?8. What old house has been taken down since it was moved?9. What house was moved from old Route 30 into town, and when?10. What building was 11. moved from in town to out on Route 250? How was it used? What two decades had the most moves?12.
Well, how did you do? If you could answer ten or more correctly, give yourself an A. Answer only half or fewer correctly, this program may be for you! In any case, come and join in the fun of reminiscing about some old buildings that have been on the move. The presentation will be of an audio-visual nature, with pictures of as many buildings as possible. Who knows, one of them may pertain to you or your family. There may even be a surprise or two! And you can help fill in the gaps of any buildings missed. Join us at the Sonnenberg Village Welcome Center for our annual meeting at 7:00 on Tuesday, February 24, to review the answers to these 12 questions and learn more about Kidron area buildings that have been on the move. It will be an evening of fun and even includes refreshments.

Annual Meeting February 24
Kidron Buildings On the Move
Do you know where this house was located, and where it was moved ? Who lived in the house, and what has since happened to it?
Glenford Gerber began volunteering at the Heritage Center in 2006, at the age of 80 and accumulated 106 hours before his health declined in 2011. Just weeks after his 88th birthday, Glenford passed away
on January 27, 2014. Glenford’s involvement with the Historical Society began long before he enthusiastically welcomed visitors at the Heritage Center. Glenford was a skilled woodworker who created many extraordinary bowls, vases and jewelry boxes from a diverse collection of wood. He donated a number of his pieces to the society to be sold at the annual auctions and from the Heritage Center Gift Shop. Glenford and his esteemed workmanship will be greatly missed.

Leading up to Kidron’s 200th Anniversary Celebration in 2019, the Heritage Center’s main exhibit will run on a two-year schedule so that more people are able to visit the displays and we can move toward Kidron’s 200th anniversary. The recent Sonnenberg Exhibit has ended and we are setting up the next exhibit celebrating the history of Jericho which will open on April 2. If you have photographs of Jericho or items related to that area just east of Kidron that you would be willing to lend to the Heritage Center for this two-year display, please call the center and leave a message, including how you may be contacted. Following is the schedule leading up to Kidron’s 200th Anniversary Celebration:
