Texas School Technology and Readiness (STaR) Chart
The Texas Teacher STaR Chart has been developed around the four key areas of the Long-Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020: ◦Teaching and Learning; ◦Educator Preparation and
Development; ◦Leadership, Administration and
Instructional Support; ◦Infrastructure for Technology.
First the Star Chart analysis was made of the years 2008-2009, 2009-2010 and 2010-2011.
The areas that revealed a need of a more specific analysis were the following:◦Technology Applications (applying
technology into curriculum or teks)◦Use of Online Learning◦Professional Development ◦Instructional Support◦Technical Support

Key Area 4: Infrastructure for Technology
Infrastructure for Technology focuses on hardware, software, and human infrastructure (the capabilities or proficiencies of those who use the technical components). The infrastructure of a school is the critical element of support for all four areas of the Long-Range Plan for Technology. There was a decrease in the second year in all sections and a slight increase in some sections in the third year.
Technology Goals
Teaching and LearningTo improve the academic
achievement and technology literacy of all students
A progressive implementation of the Technology Academy will continue at the High School in order to improve instruction and learning and comply with the Technology Application TEKS Ch. 126
Technology Goals
Educator Preparation and Development
To provide ongoing, sustained professional development for: teachers, principals, administrators, and school library media personnel to further the effective use of technology in the classroom and the library media center
Technology GoalsAdministration and Support ServicesTo provide supporting resources, such as
services, software, other electronically delivered learning materials, and print resources, that will be acquired to ensure successful and effective uses of technology
To use technology effectively to promote parental involvement and increase communication with parents
Create a shared vision and encourage the appropriate integration of technology
Technology Goals
Infrastructure for TechnologyImprove existing technology
infrastructure in order to improve instruction, reduce cost, increase access to technology and comply with the Child Internet Protection Act
To enforce a policy of Internet safety that includes measures to block or filter content for both minors and adults to certain visual depictions
Needs Assessment Survey TableKey Area of Concern Related Question
Technology Applications (applying technology into curriculum or teks)
Have you received any type of training on the implementation of technology into your curriculum (teks)?
Use of Online Learning Has the implementation of technology into your lessons been:a) Not difficult b) somewhat difficult c) very difficult
Would you be interested in more training to learn about technology applications in your subject area?
Have you received training on using online learning?
Professional Development Has the technology training you’ve received been helpful in the improvement of student performance?
How would you rate the technology training you have received: a) very helpful b) somewhat helpful c) not helpful
Instructional Support When creating lessons that require using technology is there someone in the administrative team that provides assistance when needed?
For which of the following reasons did you stop using a specific technology tool in the classroom: a) lack of troubleshooting support b) lack of training c) fear of technology d) bad experience e) none
Technical Support When experiencing difficulties with instructional technology have you received help within reasonable time?
What has been the most effective way of obtain technical support when needed? a)phone call b)email c) campus work order d) none
These two questions demonstrate that teachers have been trained to use technology in the classroom but not enough to remove the difficulties being experienced in the implementation.
Teacher are showing high interest in obtaining specific technology training in their subject area. In question 4 only 40% of teachers surveyed have received training on online learning.
There is a greater number of teachers surveyed that state that the technology training received has had an positive impact in the improvement of student performance. The rating given to the technology training was an even spit between “very helpful” and “somewhat helpful”.
When creating lessons the require using technology only half of the surveyed teachers had access to administrative assistance. The leading reasons for the lack of using technology included lack of training and troubleshooting support.
Based on these two questions it could be concluded that the best method to receive on time assistance for technology implementation is by campus work order.
ConclusionBased on the needs assessment survey
that was administered to the math department at Los Fresnos High School we come to the following recommendations:◦Subject specific technology training is needed.◦Online training is needed and will become
useful in providing further training in the form of webinars.
◦Provide a specific contact person of support for teachers within the administrative team.
◦Monitor and keep log of troubleshooting concerns that need to be addressed immediately.
