The current access technologies also known as waveforms used by the majority of VSAT market are based on SCPC/FDMA, SCPC DAMA, TDMA, and MF-TDMA.
Each access technology impacts the application’s performance, overheads, spectral efficiency, over subscription capabilities, and the total satellite bandwidth utilization.
As traffic characteristics change rapidly there is a constant demand for bandwidth changes and new application requirements. Satellite service providers struggle to decide which platform is most suitable to satisfy the varying needs of their customer applications, while optimizing bandwidth utilization. To address the high complexity of new generation satellite services without degrading service quality, Advantech Wireless introduced A-SAT-II™ – Adaptive Satellite Access Technology. This novel service modeling architecture dynamically optimizes waveform assignment to achieve the highest application performance, with minimum satellite bandwidth resources. Current platforms offering multiple waveforms require the operator to choose which waveform is optimal for a remote site. Manual intervention is normally required and the type of modem purchased for each site must be consistent with the planned operational mode. Due to readily changing customer requirements the operators find it harder to predict the proper access technology to use.
With A-SAT-II™, no manual intervention is required. The system will dynamically assign from Advantech Wireless’ industry leading MF-TDMA, BM-FDMA1, and D-SCPC access technologies. A-SAT-II™ will seamlessly optimize the access technology to the varying customer application requirements in real time.
The key for best waveform selection lies in understanding the users’ applications behavior. Broadcasting, SCADA, Cellular Backhauling, and IP Trunking for instance, all have different type of traffic densities. For constant traffic flow and 100% traffic density, it is inefficient to use MF-TDMA. Similarly, setting up a SCADA network using SCPC would be a waste of resources. Things aren’t always black & white, as sometimes there is traffic like Cellular Backhauling which is best accommodated using a mixture of both SCPC and MF-TDMA advantages which are achieved by the Advantech Wireless patented BM-FDMA waveform.
A-SAT-II™ revolutionizes the waveform selection and focuses on providing the best customer experience, while maintaining the maximal spectral efficiency. This brings immediate financial savings to the operator.
Benefits of A-SAT-II™
• Maximizes satellite bandwidth efficiency• Enables dynamic switching between different access technologies• Risk mitigation being assured all applications will be effectively supported by remote satellite terminal• Reduces operational expenses by reducing operator intervention and providing optimal utilization of satellite space segment• Prioritization of terminals for bandwidth• Enhanced user experience by matching the waveform to the applications being supported
