1968- Bell system works with fire chiefs, police officers, and the courts to set up the 9-11 service

History of the Company 1990-2000

1991- GTE buys Contel Corp. making it the 6th largest wireless provider in the United States

1999- Bell merges with Vodafone to create the largest wireless company in the united states

History of the Company 2000-Now

2000- Verizon Wireless Company is born by Bell Atlantic and GTE merging.

2004- Verizon Wireless joins the Dow Jones Industrial Average

2009- Verizon Wireless buys Alltel
