ColdKit discontinuous panels are sandwich-type panels with a polyurethane (PUR) or polyisocyanurate (PIR) core injected between two steel plates.

The range consists of three types of panel:

Refrigeration panels. Roof panels. Cladding panels.

This product is intended for the construction of coldrooms and food storage/handling rooms by installing wall and roof panels. They can also be used for controlled-environment rooms and air-conditioned rooms with either positive of negative temperatures.

The conditions of use comply with current regulations, and in particular, are ready for application of the EN 14509 standard. The internal temperature can vary from 40ºC to –40ºC.

The wall panels are assembled lengthways using a male-female mating system produced in a shaping machine in the continuous production line.

The refrigeration panels are only rectified at the end of the production line, where they are milled to guarantee very small assembly tolerances.

1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION

G I C ANEL

ANEL

ColdKit continuous panels are sandwich-type panels with a polyurethane (PUR) core injected between two steel plates.

The G.I. panel range is intended for use in G A ON and the sandwich panels are assembled to build cold rooms for the food industry.

The process includes the walls (interior and exterior) and the roof of the building.

They can be used for positive or negative temperatures, depending on the insulation thickness.

The choice of panel finish depends on the type of building (short-term or long-term stockrooms, work areas), on the internal and external temperatures, the degree of humidity, and above all, on the aggressiveness (products used in the manufacturing process or for cleaning).

Important: G.I. panels are not considered to be elements that contribute to the general stability of the construction.

3. TYPES

Internal and external faces made of galvanised steel (EN 10142, EN 10143) with shallow striations or flat options, lacquered (25 polyester).

Standard colour: white 1006 (similar to RAL9002).

Thickness: 0.5mm for striated sheet and 0.6mm for flat sheet.

The internal faces of the face sheets are coated with a special paint to allow the polyurethane foam to stick to it. (6).

A protective polythene sheet is applied in the factory (this should be removed after assembly).

Coating options: PLASTISOL 100 - PLATAL - PVDF 25 035 - SS 304. (1-4301) - SS 316L (1-4404).

The core is rigid polyurethane foam, free of HCFCs, injected with a density of 40 +/- 2Kg/m³

Polythene seal (density 50 Kg/m³) with adhesive on the mating edges of the panels.

Options: Silicon seals.

The seal between wall and roof panels serves several functions: it must impede filtration of water vapour and allow maintenance cleaning operations without the insulation deteriorating.

We offer a full range of stripforms made of galvanised steel sheet or stainless steel to attach the wall panels to the floor. These strips have U or L cross-sections. Another range of strips, also made of lacquered galvanised steel or stainless steel, has been designed to attach the wall panels to each other and to the roof panels. They have L-shaped cross-sections and flat surfaces. Some of these are used for finishing and sealing the structure, such as in gutters for water runoff.

There is also a special strip for the external roof panel joints.

Finishing strips for internal corners that can be placed horizontally or vertically. They consist of two elements, one with an L section that is attached directly to the panel sheets using self-tapping screws, and the other with a half-moon shape that hooks onto the first one. For the corner joints, there are special parts made of injected plastic.

PVC cover strips, with flexible borders and hidden attachments.

Injected plastic parts for all internal and external joints.

To guarantee that the enclosure is completely sealed, we recommend the use of neutral silicon paste, which will adhere to any of the finishes.

7 2 SEA ING

8 QUAL Y CO TROL

Automatic loading of the rolls of steel sheet.

Unrolling a length of sheet (2 upper and 2 lower flattening rollers).

Application of a 50μm protective low-density polythene film on an adhesive layer on the upper and lower sheet.

Forming the sheet to obtain the various surface finishes of the panels.

Profiling of the edges of the upper and lower sheets to obtain the structures for assembly.

Before applying the polythene, the sheets are heated to guarantee good adhesion. This operation includes a treatment with a corona effect for critical formulae such as PIR (polyisocyanurate).

Polyurethane distribution from a glue head.

Processing in a shaper, where the polyurethane expands and polymerises.

Cutting the panels according to the manufacturing program.

Stabilisation on a cooling transport belt until heat production has ceased.

Machining of the assembly structures.

Packing on pallets, according to the production order.

Wrapping.

8 G. C MA U AC UR

GIC panels are manufactured by the PAP company (Paneles Aislantes Peninsulares) in their factory in Montalbo, in the province of Cuenca (Spain).

The manufacturing process is continuous, and consists of the following stages.

8 1 G M NU AC UR

Preparation of the different components, unrolling the steel sheet, protection with a polythene film, cutting to length and width.

Preparation of the panel, installation of a polythene gasket and placing the sheet in moulds.

Injection of polyurethane. The necessary chemical components are stored in tanks at a temperature of 20ºC +/- 2ºC, and these are mixed and injected into the mould where they expand.

Stabilisation and ejection of the panel: after holding the panels in the presses during the stabilisation time (which depends on the thickness), the panels are extracted from the mould and placed on a pallet where they are stored as finished products.

Each panel has identified with a label (dimensions, foam type, thickness). The panels are then wrapped in a protective polythene film for delivery.

9. MARKING, PACKING AND STORAGE

Customer Customer Request Product Thickness Customer Reference

As they leave the continuous production line, the panels are automatically placed on polystyrene pallets in accordance with the customer’s reference, and then automatically machine-wrapped in an elastic polythene film.

As illustrated in the photograph, a label is attached to each pallet giving precise instructions for their unloading, including the use of slings for handling long panels, and for their storage, with advice for protection against rain, sunlight, etc.

9 2 3 S ORAG

The identification label on each package includes the following information:

The internal order references (internal PAP code).

The external order references (customer’s code)

The package ID number.

The date of manufacture of the panels.

Quantity, type of panel, finishes.

The dimensions of the panels.

Information concerning handling and storage of the panels.

9 MARKING9.2. G .C

9. . G .

Q c n r e h e d r prod n

Visual inspection on the production line while unrolling the sheet and after passing through each process (striations, cutting, folding, etc). Dimensional and alignment checks each time the program is changed. Appearance checks when storing.

Po e h e m, em a c p ne ch ck d ng r c o

A sample from each delivery is analysed in the laboratory. Among the aspects checked are the reactivity – the expansive power and the quality of the cellular structure. Q c n r d r p od n

Verification of the injection machine parameters. Verification of the flowrate and the pressure of each component pump. Supervision of the flowrate in the injection head and of the reactivity and the free density.

s ed pr duc s

All panels are checked at the end of the production process (straightness, appearance of the foam, absence of defects on the faces, scratches or bulges).

The panels are identified along one long side on the polyurethane foam. The marking includes the order number, the GI type + thickness in mm, the dimensions (length and width) and the type of foam (M1 or M2). Pallets containing panels should always be stored on a flat surface where there is no risk of flooding.

If the panels are to be stored for more than one month, it is best to store them in a place away from damp and heat. Inadequate storage conditions may affect the adhesive on the protective polythene film and cause problems when the panels are used.
