It is true, ninety percent of get-

ting in shape is mental. It’s the

same truth for peak performance.

Whether a couch potato needing

motivation to get and remain ac-

tive and healthy, or an advanced

athlete seeking the edge to push

your limits to maximum perform-

ance we need to believe. It’s not

just the physical skills, it is the

cognitive skills of motivation, de-

termination, and visualization of

performance.

Triathlete of the Month Jay Gallagher

If I wasn’t a software engineer, I would be an independently wealthy fisherman Passions outside Triathlon: Boating/fishing. Family Information: Wife Marie, Children Joseph 14 and Bethany 11 (All team psych mem-bers) Key Race or goal for the season: Most important race, St. Anthonys. Hardest: FL HIM Goal: sub 1 hour run in an Olympic race. Athletic history before triathlon: BMX racing 1976-1980, 2009-present. Triathlete for how many seasons: This is my second season. Currently my bike is a: Specialized Transition Comp. My dream bike is a: Just one? Shiv. Philosophies: Be excellent to each other. Biggest obstacle I overcame in becoming a triathlete: I quit smoking and drinking. What is your greatest triathlon moment or story? Finishing St. Anthonys in 2010. Crossing that finish line was one of the hardest things I’ve ever accomplished. What inspires me is my family. My favorite part about triathlon is… the training and crossing the finish line. Guilty Pleasures: Publix premium It’s Your Birthday Cake Ice Cream Really, it’s the best tasting stuff on earth. Philosophies/Quotes/Mottos: If it was easy then everyone would do it. If you’re gonna be dumb, you better be tough. When I start to think I can’t go further I think of Sian Welsh and Wendy Ingraham finishing the 1997 Ironman championships and I keep going.

What drew you to Team Psych? All the team members I kept seeing and meeting at the

races. I wanted to be part of this outstanding group!

Shimano R099, Carbon Women's Road Shoe

Used with light wear (less than 500 miles). Used

for only one triathlon season. Great shoes, just a

bit too small for me.

Push the pedals with carbon soles for extra

power! Shimano's SH-R099W Shoes put the

feathery material in the soles for light weight

and flex-free stiffness that pours all your power

into the pedals. These shoes are built with ana-

tomically curved lasts, stretch-resistant uppers

and 3-strap closures for fit and durability you'll

love.
