*Learning outcomes of study are statements of what a student can be expected to know, understand and/or do as a result of completing the learning programme. Outcomes are expressed as knowledge, skills or attitudes.

Q SCHOOL LEARNING Q SCHOOL promotes a cross curricular thematic approach to learning where all the areas of the curriculum (Strategies) are integrated and connected within a theme. It allows learning to be less fragmented. The themes become the critical thinking binder that unifies seemingly unrelated information. The four major themes of focus are:

1. THE QUR’AN 2. SALAA, 3. THE MA’SUMEEN 4. DUA (including ISTIGHFAR)

All the strategies link into these themes ensuring that:

1. Students see relationships between ideas and concepts 2. Students identify the relation between what is taught at QSchool and ‘their’ world 3. Students become more responsible for their own learning 4. Difficult concepts are given a practical context

THE 15 STRATEGIES OF TEACHING The following are the key strategies of the Q School teaching method. The curriculum is based around drawing knowledge from these strategies to different levels to coverage and understanding. Eleven strategies are listed on the Learning Outcome Certificate. * Four futher strategies that can be linked into the curriculum are listed below:

Aq’aid is the plural of Aqeeda which means belief. The belief in the five roots of Islam.

Whatever little information the human being can get about Allah can only be acquired through His names. These qualities and Names are therefore an infra-structure for human akhlaq because in Islam, the human being is the representative of Allah.

The Qur'an may be seen as a metaphor of the journey of the human being over time, beginning with the foundation of Suratul Fatiha (01) and aspiring to reach the goal of Suratul Ikhlas (112); Unity of belief. After that the two suratayn of Suratul Falaq (113) and Suratun Naas (114) are known as Maudhatayn to prevent diversion.

Q LAWS

Fiqh means a deep understanding or full comprehension and it is in essence the expansion of Shari'a (divine laws which illuminate the way to reach one's full potential.

Prophets mentioned in Qur’an and ahadith

Ma'sum (pl. Ma'sumeen) means the sinless or infallibles ones. When the Prophet (pbuh) recited the aya 33:33 he said: "Thus Me and my Ahlulbayt are clear from sins."

COMPANIONS

The term Sahaabaa meaning ‘those who associated with’ or ‘accompanied’ refers to the companions of the Ma’sumeen.

Q SCHOLARS

The Prophet (pbuh) has said: "Allah sends a person in every century with the responsibility of revitalising and spreading His religion." HE has also said: "The Ulema are the inheritors of the Prophets"

AWESOME WOMEN

Being ‘known’ especially for a Muslim woman is to a very great degree a function of participation in public life – political, literary and so on. There have been, and are many women who have ‘succeeded’ in such arenas and there is no reason why women cannot succeed, but in essence every woman who has worked at building a successful foundation for her home is AWESOME and central to the structure of society. Here we mention those who serve as examples and inspirations.

Q ETHICS

To be a good Muslims means to act ethically towards oneself, family, friends, neighbours, colleagues and strangers

Q LIFE

The laws of Islam affect all aspects of life, from childbirth through to Parenting, education, relationships and death. Islam provides scripts for all these life events. The goal of all these activities is to get closer to Allah and reach one's full potential.

Interaction about the concept of Divinity.

Q CALENDAR

From Muharram through the month of Ramadhan to Dhulhijja; observances and commemorations of Calendar events are the touchstones of Muslim life. The rituals evoke both history and theology, and engender feelings of joy, sorrow and introspection.

Q DUA

Prayer in Islam is the foundation of communication with God. Supplications, termed duas, means to 'call out' and they form an important part of Muslim life used to sanctify everything from eating a meal to sighting the moon.

Q ZIYARA

Ziyara (Commonly referred to as, Ziyarat) is a pilgrimage to sites associated with the Prophet (pbuh) and his progeny, their companions and Islamic scholars. Ziyarat can also refer to sending salutations to them from afar.

* LEARNING OUTCOMES / CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT At the end of the academic year all children will receive a certificate of achievement, with the area of knowledge attained highlighted. However, the certificate provides a useful yardstick through the year of a child’s progress and can be used in discussions with parents. Children will be assessed on the progress and achievements throughout the academic year and this will be covered in the QTP PARENTAL OBLIGATIONS All parents will sign a parental obligation on registering their child with Q School. The aim of this is to ensure there is an effective partnership between the teachers and parents in ensuring the child successfully graduates through the curriculum. These obligations are specific and teachers should be aware of them As such the teacher should for a close working relationship with the parents and make time to discuss progress of the child and how the parent is playing their role too.

TEACHER TRAINING – Q FATIMA TRAINING PROGRAMME (QTP) The aim of Q Fatima Training Programme (QTP) is to prepare teachers with the skills & knowledge to be able to effectively teach the Q School curriculum The first module of QTP is the accreditation which will enable you to broaden your knowledge base and of the Q School programme. Subsequent modules will cover more effective teaching skills and practices The aims of the programme are:

To build a knowledge base in the 15 strategies.

To allow for sharing of good practice and resources.

To build a network of teachers who have gone through the programme. Assessments will be held in order to validate the accreditation

LESSON PLANS, TEACHING TIPS AND LEARNING RESOURCES It is important to prepare for your lessons to ensure the most effective use of time. Preparing a lesson plan is considered best practise in this regard and is found to be very effective A lesson plan should include:

1. Purpose/Aim (What am I going to teach?) 2. Learning objectives (With what I teach what will the student be able to do?) 3. Links/Continuity (How does this relate to the previous and next lesson?) 4. Delivery Strategy 5. Materials e.g. Worksheets, Audio Visual aids…. 6. Assessment/Evaluation 7. Staging (Activity, time allocated for each interaction involved)
