booming summer season into our community. This makes it difficult to form definite classes to begin from Day 1. We antici-pate that we will be able to form 9 classes, although at this stage, we are still one K-2 student short from reaching this mark. As a result, we are planning for both 8 and 9 class sce-narios. On the student’s first day back, Wednesday 30 January, Year 1-6 students will line up in their 2012 class lines under the COLA. To start 2013 we will form the 9 classes. Teachers in each stage on this class plan are likely to be: Kindy – Mrs Andrews (K) and Mrs Booth (K/1) Stage 1 – Miss Kerle (1) and Ms Maloney (2) Stage 2 – Mrs Bowman (3), Mr Weightman (3/4), Mr True (4/5) Stage 3 – Ms Benton (5) and Mrs Edwards (6) Kindergarten Best Start 2013 Each year, all Kindergarten students entering government schools in NSW participate in the Best Start Kindergarten As-sessment. The purpose of this assessment is to identify the literacy and numeracy knowledge that our youngest learners bring to school. Additionally, the assessment provides infor-mation about each student to guide teaching and learning and gives practical advice to parents to support learning at home. The 2013 Best Start process will be completed from Wednes-day 30 January to Tuesday 5 February inclusive. 2013 Kin-dergarten students commence school post these individ-ual assessments on Wednesday 6 February. Thank you in advance to our staff who will administer this one on one assessment and to all families for supporting this im-portant activity. Letters will be sent home advising parents of the time and date of their child’s initial “Best Start” test. Disability Standards for Education – National Survey (Survey closes midnight 14 December) The Commonwealth Government is supporting the develop-ment of new e-learning resources on the Disability Standards for Education through the National Partnership, More Support for Students with Disabilities. These new resources will assist all Australian schools in meeting essential legal obligations to students and their families. The University of Canberra is developing this new e-learning material in partnership with state and territory education au-thorities, including the NSW Department of Education and Communities. All school communities across Australia are now invited to participate in an online survey about the Disability Standards for Education. The survey is open to all school staff as well as parents and carers. The survey will provide states and territo-ries, the University and the Commonwealth Government with important baseline data on knowledge and understanding of the Standards, prior to implementation of the e-learning re-sources, anticipated for early in the 2013 school year. The survey link for parents and carers is as follows:
