THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD

Dear parishioners of Ste. Anne,

Happy New Year! 2021 the year for creative courage

As we usher in the New Year and ask God for the grace of new beginnings in our lives, families,

church and world, we are reminded that this year is placed under the patronage of St. Joseph. Pope

Francis remarked, in his letter inaugurating the Year to St. Joseph, that Joseph was a man of creative

courage who was able to accept the reality of life’s circumstances and persevere through difficulties.

“If the first stage of all true interior healing is to accept our personal history and embrace even the

things in life that we did not choose, we must now add another important element: creative courage.

This emerges especially in the way we deal with difficulties. In the face of difficulty, we can either

give up and walk away, or somehow engage with it. At times, difficulties bring out resources we did

not even think we had.” (Apostolic letter Patris Corde, no.5)

Although we had hoped that the pandemic would have been long over when 2021 would come, and

though we may be tired, frustrated and filled with uncertainties, we are called to confront this year

with the same creative courage of Joseph. God trusted that Joseph would know what to do in some

very difficult circumstances so as to protect the Holy Family, without every detail being known to

him in how things would turn out. God trusts us, in the same way, to live out our faith during the time

of pandemic, to be the light of Christ for others and to reach out in safe ways to those in need.

As we prepare this year for our Family of Parishes, along with St. Simon & St. Jude, Belle River,

Paroisse St-Jérôme, Ste. Anne and Good Shepherd Parishes, we ask the intercession of St. Joseph

protector of the Church and patron of Canada, to inspire creative courage in our lives of faith and

communities. With this grace of creative courage we will certainly be surprised with resources,

talents and strength that we did not realize we possessed.

May God fill your hearts with health, joy, peace and creative courage for 2021!

Holy Family Retreat House Needs Your Support

Holy Family Retreat House has served the Diocese of London since

1948 providing a serene, safe environment in a beautiful physical

location. Located in the hamlet of Oxley, on the shores of Lake Erie,

Holy Family Retreat House is an attractive facility that exudes charm

and a sense of peace and quiet.

www.hfrh.ca

Donations are needed to support the Retreat House so it will be

there, ready to serve you, our parishes, students, those discerning

vocations and the many others who will bring their spiritual needs to

those sacred grounds. Much has been accomplished in the last two

years under the direction of Deacon Frank Lepain: painting,

renovation of the chapel and dining room, new beds, plumbing and

boiler repairs, and restoration of the grounds. But with no revenue

from guests for the past and next several months, your support is

needed. Please help us keep the Retreat House ready for tomorrow

by donating what you can today.

You can e-Transfer to

[email protected]

or go to

www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/diocese-of-london/

and select the Retreat House from the fund options on the right.

Thank you - Merci! A sincere thanks to everyone for the many Christmas greetings,

cards, treats, words of support and prayers that you have blessed

us with over the past couple of weeks. Your kindness and

thoughtfulness are greatly appreciated and we are all blessed to be

serving in our parish communities.

Fr. Patrick, Fr. Mark, Fr. Rob and Fr. Phil.

Drouillard Place Thanks You …

Dear Ste-Anne Parishioners,

Thank you for being so generous with your donations to Drouillard

Place. You’re having such an impact and making so much of a

difference.

We can’t say THANK YOU enough for your ongoing support and

generosity of giving back to the community!. This is truly

heartwarming for us to be able to use these funds to keep the spirit

in Christmas for all of our program participants.

God Bless you all & your families.

Epiphany House blessing It is an ancient tradition that not only places

God at the entrance of your home, it places

your entire family under his protection. The

Epiphany blessing of chalk and homes is a

centuries old tradition where priests would

visit each home in their parish after the Feast of the Epiphany. Over

time it became more difficult to accomplish such a feat as parishes

became larger and larger and priests were stretched thin. For this

reason it became an accepted tradition that a member of the family

is able to lead this blessing in place of the priest. The prayer of

blessing is found at the end of this bulletin.

Mass Intentions Though the Parish Office is currently closed to the

public, you can still schedule a Mass for your special

intention, sick or deceased relative or friend.

Kindly drop-off an envelope with the intention, your preferred date,

your name, your phone number and payment of $10 per intention or

email us at [email protected]. We will contact you if your date is not

available.

However, due to the high volume of requests we are implementing a

new protocol that we ask that individuals and families sending in or

calling in to request Mass intentions be limited to two (2) Mass

intentions per month during a six (6) month period.

This gives everyone in the parish a fair chance to have a Mass

intention said for their loved ones. We are now taking requests for

the period of January to the end of June 2021.

The Blessing (Upon entering the house - or at the front door):

Leader: Peace be to this house.

All: And to all who dwell herein.

Leader:

From the east came the Magi to Bethlehem to adore the Lord; and opening their treasures they offered precious gifts: gold for the great King, incense for the true God, and myrrh in symbol of His burial.

All: My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour for he has looked with favour on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and

Holy is his Name. He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to the help of his servant,

Israel for he remembered his promise of mercy, the

promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his

children forever.

All: From the east came the Magi to Bethlehem to adore the Lord; and opening their treasures they offered precious gifts: gold for the great King, incense for the true God, and myrrh in symbol of His burial.

Leader: Our Father Who art in Heaven,

hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come,

Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead and lead us not into temptation,

All: But deliver us from evil.

Leader: All they from Saba shall come

All: Bringing gold and frankincense.

Leader: O Lord, hear my prayer.

All: And let my cry come unto Thee.

Leader: Let us pray.

O God, who by the guidance of a star didst on this day manifest Thine only-begotten Son to the Gentiles, mercifully grant that we who know Thee by faith may also attain the vision of Thy glorious majesty. Through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

Leader: Be enlightened, be enlightened, O Jerusalem, for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee– Jesus Christ born of the Virgin Mary.

All: And the Gentiles shall walk in thy light and kings in the splendour of thy rising, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon thee.

Leader: Let us pray.

Bless, O Lord God almighty, this home, that in it there may be health, purity, the strength of victory, humility, goodness and mercy, the fulfillment of Thy law, the thanksgiving to God the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. And may this blessing remain upon this home and upon all who dwell herein. Through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

(After the prayers of the blessing are recited, walk through the house and bless each room by sprinkling with holy water.)

(Take the blessed chalk and first write the initials of the three Wise Men, connected with Crosses, over the inside of your front door (on the lintel, if possible). Then write the year, breaking up the numbers and the year so that they fall on both sides of the initials. It should look like this, for example

20 C+M+B 21

with the “20 “being the millennium and century, the “C” standing for the first Wise Man, Caspar, the “M” standing for Melchior, the “B” standing for Balthasar, and the “21” standing for the decade and year. It is also popularly believed that the Kings’ initials stand for “Christus Mansionem Benedicat”)

(“Christ bless this house”).

Ensemble:

Mon âme exalte le Seigneur, exulte mon esprit en Dieu, mon Sauveur ! Il s’est penché sur son humble servante; désormais, tous les âges me diront bienheureuse. Le Puissant fit pour moi des merveilles ;

Animateur/trice : Prions le Seigneur;

Animateur/trice : Prions le Seigneur;
