Composition
● the placement or arrangement of visualelements or ingredients in a work of art, asdistinct from the subject of a work. It can alsobe thought of as the organization of theelements of art according to the principles ofart.
Priniciples of Art
● Shape- the use of areas in two-dimensional space that canbe defined by edges.
● Form- the volume or perceived volume
● Value- the use of lightness and darkness in a piece ofartwork.
● Line- line pertains to the use of various marks, outlines andimplied lines in artwork and design. A line has a width, direction, and length.
Priniciples of Art
● Color- the element of art that is produced when light, strikingan object, is reflected back to the eye.
● Space- an area that an artist provides for a particularpurpose. Space includes the background, foreground andmiddle ground, and refers to the distances or area(s) around, between and within things. There are two kinds of space:negative space and positive space.
● Texture- used to describe either the way a three-dimensionalwork actually feels when touched, or the visual "feel" of a two-dimensional work.
Rule of Thirds
An image should be imagined as divided intonine equal parts by two equally spacedhorizontal lines and two equally spaced verticallines, and that important compositionalelements should be placed along these lines ortheir intersections. Proponents of the techniqueclaim that aligning a subject with these pointscreates more tension, energy and interest in thecomposition than simply centering the subject.
