Floor to Area Ratio (FAR) is the ratio of thetotal floor area of building(s) to the area of landon a parcel. It is a measure of the intensity ofdevelopment, and in a sense is arepresentation of the built environment. FAR inthis map was created by dividing the totalsquare footage of each building segmentprovided by appraisal districts, by the squarefootage of each parcel polygon in the GISlayer. In some cases, especially in thedowntown area, the appraisal district allocatedthe building square footage to one parcel,though a single building might coversurrounding parcels. The FAR may beoverstated in these instances.
