Youth Business Plan Challenge3rd Edition

Get ready to rumble as the 3rd Edition of the Superior East Youth Business Plan Challenge is now beginning. Once again area businesses, municipalities and area high schools are encouraging students to compete for cash and prizes. Last year “La Moda” by Brittany Sandie & MacKenzie Moore took home $700.00 for their business plan …!!! In total $2450.00 in cash and prizes were awarded.

The competition calls for teams of 2 people or more to submit a business plan that could be located in our region or somewhere in northern Ontario. A letter of intent, which informs us of your participation is required. Final business plans are to be submitted for evaluation by April 30, 2007.

The Superior East CFDC has been providing loans to small business for in excess of 15 years. In fact we’ve lent over $10 million dollars to small businesses helping to create or maintain in excess of 1,800 jobs. We believe these businesses are the backbone of our communities. Over that time we have seen a number of different business ideas ranging from hairdressers, wood harvesters, tourism operators, retail stores, computer technicians and many more. So here are a few pointers to incorporate into your plans.

First, the plan should demonstrate the relevant skills and passion that the entrepreneur has for the business. Skills tell us if they can actually deliver their services and passion to deal with the challenges of being in business. Second, the idea should be based on sound marketing research that addresses the market for your product and the method of delivery. Finally, financial projections that demonstrate the feasibility of the business for yourself and your investors.

If you want some assistance, stop by or call, the Superior East CFDC in Wawa with your questions. Also, look for the times when our staff may be visiting your school making presentations. Good luck!!!

If you have any questions, please contact Guy Pelletier, Community Development Officer at 856-1105 ext 23.
