Using adjectives in Welsh Adjectives are words that describe a noun. So in the phrase:

a black t-shirt the word black is the adjective and the word t-shirt is the noun. In Welsh, the adjective usually comes after the noun, so instead of

saying a black t-shirt, we say a t-shirt black. crys-t du

the word crys-t is the noun and the word du is the adjective. Tasg 11: Write the following items of clothing and colours in Welsh. Remember to put the colour after the item of clothing.

Masculine and feminine nouns and adjectives. Welsh nouns, just like those in French and Spanish, are either masculine or feminine. There are some rules about how this works, but it’s not so easy to spot in Welsh as it is in French or Spanish, so we just have to learn the words. For the clothes vocab, the following is a list of masculine and feminine items of clothing: Masculine words Feminine words

Plural words esgidiau sanau

For masculine and plural words, all you need to do is to write the item of clothing followed by the colour:

a black t-shirt - crys-t du green socks - sanau gwyrdd

For feminine words, the adjective has to have a soft mutation at the start if it starts with certain letters, as you can see in the table below: If the colour starts with … the first letter changes to …
