Here is the Weekend Box Office Results from the website Box Office Mojo. It is a list of the top ten most popular films from this weekend. This top ten list has 3 horror films (Goosebumps, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and Crimson Peak) which shows that horror films are relatively popular at the moment. It shows that people are choosing to watch horrors right now, so maybe this could suggest it is a mainstream audience and so this means that horrors are successful in making money and people enjoy going to see them.

This is a list of the different types of horrors and shows the popularity of each type. The most popular type of horror is Supernatural horrors, so maybe we should take a more supernatural feel to our film so that we can appeal to a wider audience. However this would be difficult to film well so we would need to think more about what would be the best type to make our film excel.

I went on the IMBD website and found the most popular horror feature films released in 2015. The most popular film is Crimson Peak. It was shown in 2984 theatres, which suggests a mainstream audience and made a sum of $62,085,839 worldwide, suggesting that horrors are successful. I can use these popular films and their story lines to help me come up with ideas for my film.

I went on to the website The Numbers, and researched the weekly DVD sales for last week. It shows 5 horrors within the top 15. this shows that people are interested in watching horrors and would buy them on DVD so that they can enjoy them over and over again.

Overall I have discovered that horrors are fairly popular around the month of October, this may be due to the fact that it is Halloween. This could mean that if I were to release my film in October rather than March for example, it would more likely be more popular because of the popularity of horrors at this time of year. Also this could suggest that horror film are a mainstream target audience because a lot of people watch them.
