We are the community liaison officers of the Austin Police Department for the southwest part of Austin. Many of you may already know about the District Representative Unit and what our role and job function is, however there may be some that do not. The concept involves an officer assigned to an area as a liaison between the community and the police department to assist the community in solving neighborhood problems. The District Representative is called upon to do a myriad of activities which include, but are not limited to: 1. Community involvement such as: a. Neighborhood Watch programs b. Neighborhood Associations c. Business Associations d. Schools, PTA’s, and civic groups 2. Urban decay prevention a. Abandoned and junk vehicles b. Graffiti c. Abandoned residences and buildings 3. Crime Prevention 4. Problem Solving a. Habitual and high-demand complainants b. City representative complaints c. Assist the community in solving non-emergency problems and helping the community become self-reliant. We are here for you to help in any way with issues that may affect your quality of life in your neighborhoods. I know that this encompasses many different things, some of which are not police related. In any case, give us a chance to help you. And always remember, in case of an emergency when you need an officer, call 911 FIRST! Some of the things that we are directly responsible for in helping you in your neighborhoods are programs and presentations such as the Neighborhood Watch Program. This program has proven to be very effective in helping people to “police” their neighborhoods and make them safer. We have an ongoing training class that is held the 2 nd Tues of every month at 630p at the South Substation. Also, we may be called on to prepare and present all sorts of presentations from Stranger Danger in the schools to updates of ongoing initiatives to stop crime sprees as well as doing security assessments at various businesses and residences. TANGLEWOOD OAKS MEETINGS All Tanglewood homeowners are welcome – and encouraged - to attend the Tanglewood Oaks Owners Association board meetings. These are held the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7 PM in the church annex. This is a good forum to find out what is going on in your neighborhood, to share any issues you have encountered, or to volunteer your time to increase the quality of life in the community.
