Transcript of Tami Elaine Prince Art Powerpoint by Christine Thomson
Artist, photographer, friend and eternal optimist*
In her own words…
"I believe in art for
everyone, meaning that
it should be a personal
experience for each
individual. To me
abstract art is more
emotional because
everyone is going to feel
something different
depending on their own
history and emotions.
It's like a conversation
on canvas.“(phone
interview, Nov 2011)
Currently resides in Boston where she has her work featured in several galleries and stores in the area.
Works as an Executive Recruiter for Commonwealth Resources .
"The reason why I'm not doing it full time is because it would kill my passion. I don't want it to become commercialized. What I get out of it is that I feel free, the moment someone tries to control it, it’s not me anymore, it’s not my true vision.” –Tami Elaine Prince
Has been published nationally for her photography and writing, including: "Continuing The Light”2010, one of her images was included in this book
which was created as a dedication for John Scarlata. Listen Magazine in 2006 for "Under The Makeup“.
Photo Techniques in 2002 for "Filtered Vision” Photo Techniques in 2000 for "Creative Double Exposures" and in
Photographer's Forum Best of Photography Annual 2000
Grew up in Oakdale, CT; attended Montville High School.
Has been taking pictures for as long as she can remember, her first camera was a 5 dollar purple Avon camera, which she still has, to remind her of where she started.
Received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography with a minor in Art and an Associates Degree in Graphic Design in 2001 from Virginia Intermont College.
Her early work concentrated on double exposure photography.
Omnipresence
“I chose double
exposures and
multiple prints early in
my career because of
its layered process.
Each layer represents a
part of me One layer
may explore my
relationship with the
outside world and the
other a self-portrait.
My photography
exposed me and
helped me open up.”

Rebirth
Hysteria
Birth
“Divided” acrylic paints on particle board
“A fine line lies between
reality and fabrication.
It is a challenge to
decipher art’s true
intent. To me, this
ambiguity is what I love
most. This piece,
“Divided”, poses
questions in its process
and in the subject’s
expression. When you
take away familiar scale
and the universal canvas
size, you are left looking
closer at something you
see all the time but
rarely choose to
appreciate..”
Lust
After graduating college, Tami has continued experiment with painting and photography.
She originally began painting as a therapeutic way to deal with her obsessive compulsive disorder.
She currently does a lot of mixed media pieces with acrylic paints and objects such as pieces of mirror and shell.
Another new aspect of her work, involves combining paintings with new photography for a series she entitled “Synergy”.
Paintings are primarily abstract expressionist.
She uses her hands to paint them and also spackles and sponges, no brushes.
Her current color palate tends to be bold and the pieces are rich in movement, texture and vitality.

“I truly enjoy the
tactile
experience of
creating with my
hands. I feel
more connected
to what I am
creating.”

“My latest, "Synergy" project combines everything I love. It began when I digitized my original paintings and started doing some new photo shoots.
As I was editing my images I realized how beautiful they would be combined. I have always worked with surrealistic imagery, but had never combined both mediums. These pieces were created by layering my digitized paintings with my new photography utilizing various techniques in Photoshop.” –Tami Elaine Prince
