In today's Gospel lesson, Jesus prays for His disciples. What a powerful thing – for them, for us! You see, when Jesus prays for something – something for us, it means that “something” has high value for Him. He thinks that “something” is important. And just as Jesus taught His disciples to pray (like when He taught them the Lord's Prayer), He also taught them – and us – what to pray for. What is that “something” Jesus prayed for? That our unity would be like His unity with our Father in heaven. He prayed that we may “be one.” What does that mean? An old song that describes it goes like this: Make us one Father God, Make us one, That the world may know You gave Your only Son. Fill us with the love You've given us to share, And protect us from the evil everywhere. You have chosen that together we should be A reflecon of Your love and unity. Cleanse us from our old nature of sin That Your image may be seen in us again. Send us in the world to be a channel of All the glorious riches of Your love. And we'll tell the world the truth of how You feel, That the world may know that Jesus' love is real. Living in oneness, in unity with God and with one another is what we are trying to accomplish in Trinity's mission statement: Connecng people in Roselle and beyond in real, loving relaonship with God, through Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit, with each other in a contagious Chrisan community, and with their calling of servanthood in the world. So here's some quesons: Do you experience more joy doing things “by yourself” or doing things “with others”? Do people see Jesus' love more clearly when followers of Jesus are in unity or “doing our own thing”? What are the advantages and disadvantages of being united in a group of believers?
