OUR WINE PHILOSOPHY …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
We live in a very special pocket of our globe. Just as we prefer to source locally grown produce to use in our kitchen where
possible we take a similar approach to our wine sourcing. We recognize the quality and history of wine production in the
Clare Valley and believe in providing our guests with a truly unique experience. To this end, we do our best to provide a
wonderful palette of the region’s best wines.
We also love Jamon Iberico, Spanish anchovies & Parmigiano-Reggiano! And our love for the wide world of wine is no
different. Pinot Noir from Burgundy, Chardonnay from Margaret River and the exotic wines of Mount Etna, Sicilia. We can’t
unfortunately list them all but what we’ll do is focus on those that we love and those that we think, matched with our food,
will provide an outstanding dining experience.
Seed Winehouse & Kitchen’s wine list is curated by Glenn Barry, a local winemaker with a long association with our valley.
Glenn met Guy in 2014 when he established Seed Winehouse and Kitchen and they immediately bonded over a shared
passion for delicious food and wines. A friendship ensued and after innumerable late night bottles of Barolo and kilos of
salted and cured meats they decided to write this wine list together. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed bringing
it together.
BYO POLICY
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
We live and work in a wine region and recognize that at times our guests want to enjoy their own wines with our food. We
are happy to accommodate BYO as a service at the cost of $20 per bottle of wine (750mL). Unfortunately, we no longer
accept BYO on Friday & Saturday evenings or on all services over a long weekend.
We do not accept BYO beer, spirits, soft drinks or water.

SEASONAL CHARMERS ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
There’s no doubting our wine list focusses on wines from our region as well as some of our favorite styles and varieties but one reason for our deep love of wine is its diversity, interest and constant evolution so here at Seed we want to celebrate all that is exciting in the world of wine. Our ‘Seasonal Charmers’ allow us to share some of our favorites and some of the new wines we encounter from month to month; season to season. We always have our food in mind when selecting these wines so enjoy the selected food matches or try experimenting for yourself. Remember - an open mind and sense of experimentation is a wonderful thing!
WHITES & ROSE ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Villa Wolf Gewürztraminer 2016 Pfalz, Germany 42
Spring blossoms and pink grapefruit abound in this feather-light Gewürztraminer. Just a shade off dry, pristine tangerine and peach flavors are juicy and quaffable.
Pittnauer ’Perfect Day’ 2018 Burgenland, Austria 70
Fragrant and elegant, subtle and dynamic. The Perfect Day is a tribute to the eponymous 1972 Lou Reed song where he sums up the simple joys of life into one perfect day.. Composed of four traditional grape varieties – Gruner Veltliner, Muscat Ottonel, Traminer & Chardonnay. The grapes are harvested and vinified separately, matured in used barriques for six months & blended together just before bottling. Camomile, white flowers, pebbles and ripe peaches shape the aroma structure but allow other flavours to enter with time and air. It’s texture is compact and tightly-knit, with fine and palpable tannins and an agile acidity.
Domaine Collote Marsannay Rose 2017 Burgundy, France 58
From the northern edges of the Cote d’Or, Marsannay is a study in contrasts. While it sets itself apart as the only Burgundy village with an appellation for rosé, it also is considered more humble than its storied neighbors as it has no 1er Cru nor Grand Cru vineyards. Philippe Collotte assembles his rosé from five parcels of Pinot Noir vines with the average age of 40+ years. This wine always full, fresh, and enticing as it displays a fascinating peach note that’s supported by cherry and gooseberry. This wine can play a variety of roles during a meal, and it’s an elegant choice to serve throughout.
Domaine Tempier Rose 2017 Bandol, France 99
Arguably the worlds best Rose, it’s about as complex, structured and age-worthy as a rose can be. Made from Mourvedre, Grenache & Cinsault it’s floral and shows intense flavours of peach and pomegranate. Roasted Market Fish, Young Leeks and Saffron Butter

Luke Lambert Nebbiolo 2016 Yarra Valley 110
Luke Lambert is widely recognised as one of Australia's most talented and passionate winemakers; his Nebbiolo has established itself as a benchmark Australian example. The newly released 2016 Luke Lambert Nebbiolo is another brilliant example of Yarra Valley Nebbiolo, fermented using wild yeast and held on skins for 20 days before pressing and maturation in large format (2000 litre) French and Slovonian oak barrels.
Chateau de Saint Lager Brouilly 2016 Beaujolais, France 56
Gamay from the Cote de Brouilly. This wine has bright acidity & juicy red current fruit balanced with firm, smoky & dry tannins. Delicious. Giuseppe Cortese Dolcetto d’Alba 2017 Barbaresco, Italy 60
Dolcetto is a native variety to Piemonte, producing fruit forward light to medium bodied reds with high tannin & low acidity. This little gem is very elegantly put together… violets, black cherries & hint of bitter chocolate. La Linea Mencia 2017 Adelaide Hills 52
Mencia is the grape, fresh, fragrant and deep are the wines. Think of a more savoury, earthy, glossy version of Shiraz and you’re on the right wavelength. Try it with the Steak Fritte.
Nocturne Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 Margaret River 78
A new player in Margaret River but for those of us who still love Cabernet this wine is detailed in its red and purple fruit profile but carries a good amount of richness and savoury bay leaf nuance. Cabernet & Lamb. How can you miss!? Vincent Paris Saint Joseph ‘Les Cotes’ 2016 Rhone, France 95
Syrah from a noted Rhone producer, these wines tend toward powerful and deep wines but they retain a degree of finesse and detail that elevate him to the top of the Rhone tree. Our Slow Roasted Lamb Shoulder show’s all the power of flavour and detail in cooking to match sensationally.
Yarra Yering ‘Dry red NO.1’ 2013 Yarra Valley, VIC 140
In true Yarra Yering tradition this wine combines power with poise, concentration and finesse. This medium bodied claret style is principally cabernet sauvignon with merlot, malbec and a little petit Verdot.

ODE TO RIESLING ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
WATERVALE
Two very important names in Clare wine history are Sobels & Buring being the men who brought Riesling to Watervale in the early 20th century. Riesling and Watervale have been successful companions since. The fertile red loam soils give rise to highly aromatic wines that show wonderful generosity of ripe citrus fruits and dried spice.
The 2017 vintage was late by current standards. A very wet and cool growing season delayed ripening but has resulted in wines with scintillating acids and depth of flavor.
The 2018 vintage was warm and dry and has produced wines of great flavour that will provide generous wines for early drinking.

Polish Hill River lies on the Eastern side of The Clare Valley between Mintaro & Sevenhill. It takes its name from the Polish settlers who in the 1850’s setup along the upper reaches of the Hill River.

SEVENHILL, SKILOGALEE, AUBURN ET AL
The Clare Valley is not a large region in size but it is very unique in its diversity. Altitude, aspect, soil type and differing climates can all give wines a unique typicity. From Auburn in the South to the township of Clare at its northern end the Clare Valley is home to a huge number of Riesling blocks that can show their own terroir or can be blended across the valley to make things interesting.
The 2017 vintage was late by current standards. A very wet and cool growing season delayed ripening but has resulted in wines with scintillating acids and generosity of flavor.

CLARE VALLEY SHIRAZ & FRIENDS ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Clare has long been known for its generous styles of Shiraz. With wines like Jim Barry’s ‘Armagh' & Kilikanoon’s ‘The Attunga’ providing the region a reputation of producing tremendously flavoured and long-lived wines. These wines will always be part of our fabric. The Clare Valley has many micro-climates within its borders and can not only produce the big Shiraz styles but also some finer more elegant wines. We love the diversity and celebrate all of those styles below.
The 2016 vintage saw a warmer than average December and dry January relieved by a slightly cooler February which included some much-needed rain. Picking was short and sharp with varieties across the valley ripening together. Those reds grabbed fresh have produced wines with vibrancy and delicacy.
The 2017 vintage was late by current standards. A very wet and cool growing season with delayed ripening has produced wines a little more elegant than is normal. Blue and purple fruits and very fine long tannins are typical of the wines. Field Study ‘Vol. 2’ Shiraz 2017 44

CLARE VALLEY CABERNET & FRIENDS ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Mick Knappstein once famously stated ‘There’s two types of people in the world - those born in Clare and those that wish they were!’. Mick’s career at Leasingham saw him experiment with blending red wines and establish the Bin 56 Cabernet Malbec which was an important wine as it established the ability for Clare to consistently produce quality red wines from the Cabernet family.
The 2016 vintage saw a warmer than average December and dry January relieved by a slightly cooler February which included some much-needed rain. Picking was short and sharp with varieties across the valley ripening together. Those reds grabbed fresh have produced wines with vibrancy and delicacy.
