TRIVIA NIGHT

Over 70 students from Deakin University stepped away from their usual studying and assignment writing on Wednesday 20th, August to participate in the WOLVES and Environmental Club’s first ever Underwater Themed Trivia night. The Trivia Night aimed to raise much-needed funds for Sea Shepherd Australia, which is a non-profit conservation organisation whose mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.

The event saw Tae Watson a representative of Red Frogs, a major sponsor for the night come along and give away a Z-Flex skate board. Jacob Copper buying 40 tickets; saw him go home victorious with skateboard in hand. Sea Shepherd representative and Environmental Club President Steph Moorish was a huge part in organizing the successful event, through numerous hours work and many meetings later she was able to come through with the goods, providing a Sea Shepherd prize pack going to Charli Aberdour.

Throughout the night one team remained in the lead for most of the night, coming through victorious was team ‘Blackjacks and Dead Hookers’ taking home the Hot Air Ballooning package as well as the Ultimate Paintball Experience and $150 worth of vouchers. Overall the night was a huge success raising $58.50 for the Red Frogs and a massive $306.65 for Sea Shepherd Australia. I would like to thank every single member involved in making the night the amazing event it was.

A huge thank you to Stef for your help in co-organising the event, Gemma for selling over half the tickets, Jake for his photography and Louise for the sound. A special thanks to Hannah, T, Owen, Rani, Sarah, Kournty, Morgan and Anthony. I would also like to give a special mention to Erin Hawkins and Rachel Smith, who stayed behind after the event to help clean up. This help did not go unnoticed that’s for sure. So thank you to everyone involved throughout the night.

Accommodation

Spending the summer at res??

Res is open this summer! Are you studying, working in Warrnambool, doing volunteer work or placement…? Or just need somewhere to stay? Contact the res office to discuss your summer stay options! Applications are now open for both shared accommodation and studio summer stays!

Summer stays at res — FAQs

Do I need to be studying units over tri 3 to stay on res?

No!! In the past this has been the case, but not anymore!

Can I move from shared accommodation to an NRAS studio apartment?

Yes! And vice versa! You are able to move into NRAS provided that you meet the NRAS entry criteria (almost all domestic students do—discuss this with the res office if unsure).

Can I stay in the same room I am in now?

If you are already in NRAS, you can stay in the same apartment over the summer. You can also arrange for a 12 month lease that means you can stay right through to the end of T2, 2015!

Students living in shared accommodation over the summer are grouped together. This is done for security, socialisation and maintenance reasons.

Do I need to move out or go home at the end of this trimester?

No! But as mentioned, students living in shared accommodation are grouped together over the summer—this means you may have to move to another room at the end of trimester 2.

If you have any further questions or are thinking about staying on res this summer, come down to the res office! As always, the Res Team are happy to help out.

As part of this you will notice that there is no longer a link to directly report maintenance requests. This is now available through the Resident Login area, at the top right corner of the webpage after entering via your campus link, or via this link http://starrez.deakin.edu.au/StarRezPortal/ In order to submit a maintenance request you will require your Residences Login and Password: Once you have logged in, you will then need to select the Maintenance tab at the top of the page, then New Job. This is where you will also see any open requests that you have previously reported. You will then be also have to select the Category, and the Item effected, and provide a brief description. Then select Save and Continue. Your request is then submitted to the Residences Office. You can also review any previous requests via the Residences Portal.
