You’re invited to join other Christians for 40 Days for Life – forty days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion; it began on September 26 and concludes on November 4. You’re also invited to stand and peacefully pray during a 40-day vigil in the public right-of-way near Goshen Planned Parenthood, 7 Coates Drive. St. John's Church sponsors every Friday during the campaign from 7:00am to noon. During these hours we try to have a minimum of two prayer volunteers per hour. The Orange Regional Medical Center Auxiliary is sponsoring a tricky tray, for the benefit of the pediatric department, on Saturday, October 20 at St. Joseph’s Church in Middletown. Doors open at 10:00am; calling begins at 11:30am. Admission is $5 and includes one card of tickets; refreshments will be available.
Mary’s Prayer Group will meet on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 3:00pm in the home of Fran Warren, 6 McNally Street in Goshen. Mark your calendar for the Hudson Valley Polonaise Society’s Polka Dance featuring “Chris and Ronnie”, a five-piece Polka band from Staten Island, NY on Sunday, November 4, 2018. The festivities begin at 12:00pm Mass, and will continue with a light reception in the parish house afterward. �� On Saturday, October 27, our Confirmation candidates will make their retreat at the Marian Shrine in Stony Point. Prayers for a fruitful time away – and good weather – are most welcome.
�� That evening, we will welcome back Fr. Kareem Smith, who will celebrate the 5:00pm Mass. Kareem served here as a deacon from November 2016 to May 2017; he was ordained a priest last May, and is stationed at the Church of the Annunciation in Crestwood.
�� The Parent Club of Burke Catholic is sponsoring a Fall Harvest Cocktail Party on Friday, November 9 at 7:00pm. One $100 ticket admits two adults and includes hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer, soda, coffee, tea and des-sert. The proceeds from the evening will benefit the renovation of the school’s science labs. �� On Saturday, November 10, St. John’s will be hosting the Memorial Mass for past regents of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. (Each local Court is led by a regent.)
�� St. John School will be hosting a “Touring Tuesday” open house on Tuesday, November 13 from 9:00 to 11:00am.
�� Bishop Dominick will be visiting St. John’s to celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation on Friday, November 16 at 5:00pm and Saturday, November 17 at 10:00am.
�� Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan and Ulster is sponsoring its popular annual Goshen Christmas House Tour on Saturday, December 1; tickets are available at www.cccsos.org.
�� Fr. Michael Sullivan, OSA will preach a mission at St. John’s beginning the weekend of December 1/2 and concluding on Wednesday, December 5. He had done a parish mission here several years ago, and is delighted to be returning. I will be writing more on this over the next several weeks, but would encourage you in the meantime to mark these dates on your calendars.
