Symbiotic Relationships
SYMBIOSIS refers to the relationship between organisms of different species that show an intimate encounter with each other.
AT LEAST one of the participating species MUST be provided a nutritional advantage.
3 TYPES of Symbiotic Relationships:
1. Parasitism
2. Commensalism
3. Mutualism
Parasitism -- Video Interaction in which the PARASITE derives
nutrients from the HOST. This relationship is not good for the host, but
great for the parasite.
Commensalism – video
Interaction in between two species, where one organism benefits while the other is not harmed.
Organism benefits usually by feeding or protection
Mutualism – video
Interaction between two species where BOTH organisms benefit.
They exchange food and shelter, and sometimes even protection.
