Community Summer Youth Employment Program 2014
Employer Overview
The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS) administered the 2014 Community Summer Youth Employment Program to provide eligible youth with age-appropriate:
• Job training, • Life skills, • Counseling, • Work-readiness skills, and• Supervised meaningful work experience.
A SYEP Employer flyer and program overview information provided an overview of: • Program components, • Why this program is important to
Illinois communities, and • Criteria for participation.
Employers were provided a list of SYEP providers to contact if they were interested in participating in the program.
• A Worksite Assessment was completed for each employer.
• A Worksite Agreementwas completed for each employer.
• Those who supervised youth were required to pass a background check.
• Youth work experiences generally lasted between 4 -12 weeks.
The employers provided the jobs.
The program paid the wages.
Over 1,100 employers participated in 2014.

Trades (e.g., Maintenance)
Computer and Mathematical
Employers were asked to complete:
• A post-program survey to collect feedback for future program enhancements.
• A success story to encourage employers to participate in future youth employment programs.
