1000 Pound Squat Demonstration with Shane Church with Real Time EMG Testing by David Sandler

Shane Church started competing in Strongman in Canada in 2007. With nothing to do in the winter, he started competing in Powerlifting and never looked back. Shane currently trains in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and has personal best lifts of 1036 pound squat, 644 pound bench, and 749 deadlift, and a Canadian record total of 2402 pounds, all in the 242-pound weight class.

Shane confirmed that he is going to Squat a 1000 Pounds at SWIS Symposium 2015 on November 13, 2015 in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

Yes you read that correctly... Shane is going to Squat a 1000 pounds for everyone at the opening of SWIS 2015. You see, I have been racking my brain as to who to get for a keynote presenter for SWIS 2015, since I have the best in the world presenting at it. So instead of getting another presenter, I want to create an experience for everyone. Most people have never seen a 1000 pound squat and it is incredible to see it live. I saw Lee Moran squat 1003 pounds in 1984, and I was only 30 feet away when he did it at the Senior National Powerlifting Championships in Dayton Ohio. It was incredible and will never forget it.

And we are going to amp it up one better. My good friend David Sandler, who did alot of EMG testing on the TV show Sport Science, and is also presenting at SWIS 2015, is bringing his Blue Tooth EMG equipment and Shane has agreed to be hooked up to surface electrodes as he is squatting the 1000 pounds. We are going to hook up David's computer to a projector and you will see in real time which muscles fire and how much when Shane is squatting. This has never been done before and will be incredible to see what muscles fire and how much with this weight. This will be history making research and you have to be there live to experience it.

Presentation Description:

Understanding changes in muscle and fat and how they relate to performance and health can be complicated and often misunderstood. Specifically, the measurement of body composition (muscle and fat) is often incorrectly performed and inaccurately interpreted in gyms, clinics, and research laboratories. Little has changed in the last 60 years regarding the fundamentals of research methods and devices used to measure body composition. However, major advances have taken place in how one can interpret the results as well as calculate more advanced measurements from data that you may have already collected. Furthermore, the dynamic nature of muscle and fat is often overlooked when interpreting body composition results and designing exercise and nutrition programs. Utilizing the appropriate methods and understanding what you are “truly” measuring is vital when trying to track changes in both fat and muscle. This lecture will discuss the dynamic nature and composition of muscle and fat and how changes can impact energy expenditure, gene expression, and other systems in the body. Both non-clinical and clinical body composition measurement techniques will be discussed, as well as how to get the most accurate and/or more advanced data from your favorite methods. You will also learn how to easily determine whether a change in body composition is actually “real” or if it is just measurement error or physiological variability.

SWIS Rehab Presenters and Delegates - Demonstrating Their Favorite Rehab for Specific Weight Training Injuries

Most trainers, therapists and doctors troll the internet looking for the next greatest rehab exercise for their clients. They follow the "guru's" on facebook or instagram hoping to learn some new rehab technique that will help themselves and their clients to the next level.

So my goal is to bring the internet to the presentation stage by getting all the internet rehab guru's who are presenting at SWIS to the stage to demonstrate how they do their unique rehab exercises for various conditions. Each SWIS 2015 Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Chiropractor, and Medical Doctor, will be given 1-2 minutes each on how they would assess, stretch and strengthen various muscle dysfunctions like a tight psoas, or weak infraspinatus, or tight hamstring or weak rhomboid and dozens of other muscle dysfunctions.

In fact, I know there will be many great strength and conditioning specialists, therapists and doctors in the audience, and they are also allowed to come onto the stage to demonstrate their favorite technique.

Each rehab exercise will be filmed with close up cameras, so you can review it again later.

My goal is to have them demonstrate 20-30 new rehab exercises in 90 minutes, which can give you a whole new level of rehab protocols for yourself and your clients.

No fluff. No long winded explanations. Just straight "here is how you do the rehab exercise" demonstrated on Dr. Ken Kinakin.

Presenters that have confirmed they will be part of the panel:

Dr. Eric Serrano

Matt Nichol

Joe Arko

Kevin Darby

He has superhuman strength and even superhuman eyesight: 20/13 in one eye and 20/11 in the other. He is a powerlifter and strongman who thoroughly dominated the strength scene in the 1980s.

He lifted hard, ate a lot and competed for so long and in so many contests, why? Bill was always a big kid when he was growing up like his father. His father, William Bart. Kazmaier, was born in 1895 in Lancaster County, PA. Kaz's grandfather was born in 1871 in Germany and was a brewer by occupation living in Columbia, PA.

Bill grew up in the Southern Lakes region of Wisconsin. He was an excellent high school football player for Burlington High School. He also held the high school's records in the shot put and in the 100 meter dash. He had trouble with his grades. So, despite his great athletic talent, the University of Wisconsin was the only place that gambled on his admission. He was admitted on a five year program for financially challenged students. (If you were to ask him today, if he had any advise to young weightlifters what would it be, he would reply train hard and hit the books harder.) He played for Wisconsin from 1973-4 as their fullback. While at Wisconsin, he discovered his destiny: lifting weights.

Bill decided to leave school and become the top powerlifter in the world. He achieved this in short order. By 1979, at the young age of 25 years old, he did so winning the American powerlifting championships and the IPF world championship that year in the superheavyweight class.

Before he launched his career as a strongman, he worked as an oil rig rough neck, lumberjack and a bouncer in some really rough bars. He is remembered for his powers of concentration and perseverance over adversity. He was the first human to bench press over 300 kg. or 660 pounds. He held the world record bench at 661 pounds for a long time. He was the first man to lift all five McGlashen Stones in competition. He remains the only man to lift the Thomas Inch Dumbell overhead. He could cheat curl 315 pounds for fifteen reps. He still has the IPF and USPF Senior American record total in powerlifting (1100 kg. or 2420 lbs.). He set this in 1981 in Columbus, Georgia. He was an IPF champion twice in 1979 and 1983. In the 1978 national championships in the 125+ kg class in Dayton, Ohio, he squatted 865 lbs. He benched 622 pounds. He deadlifted 804 pounds. This gave him a total of 2292 pounds. In 1983 when he won again in Gothenberg, Sweden in the 125+ kg. weight class. He squatted 848 pounds. He benched 501 pounds with a severe pec injury. He deadlifted 799 pounds. This gave a total of 2149.

He also competed in the World's Strongest Man Contests. He competed in six of them. In 1979, he came in third. From 1980 until 1982, he won the competitions handsomely. He was the first man to win the WSM title three times in a row. In 1981, he tore his pec while bending cold rolled steel bars in the WSM. This makes his 1983 IPF championship all that much more significant. After this tear, he lost more than one-hundred pounds off his bench. He was forced by the organizers of the WSM into a premature retirement in those competitions. He was simply too dominant in the WSM. The organizers decided not to invite the reigning WSM back to compete for several years. Instead of throwing in the towel and giving up, he continued to compete in lesser known strong man tournaments, such as the Ultimate Challenge and the Le Defi Mark Ten. He returned to the World's Strongest Man Contest in 1988 and came in second to John Paul Sigmarsson. In 1989, he competed again. He came in fourth because he severely strained his ankle in the first event.

He is perhaps the single most studied human in history. While he worked as the Strength and Conditioning coach at the University of Auburn, the University's National Strength Research Center evaluated every aspect of Kaz. His power is the basis for the Holden Thesis concerning Sauropods. In 1983, he returned for a brief stint in the WFL. He turned down offers from the Jacksonville Bulls. In 1981, after a brief career with the Green Bay Packers, he decided to return to the world of Strength.

He also wrestled in the WCW. On September 5, 1991 in Augusta GA, Bill Kazmaier teamed up with Rick Steiner in a WCW tournament to decide who would take over the vacant tag team title. Bill Kazmaier proved how fake WCW really is when he lost to Arn Anderson (6'3" 225 pounds) and his other partner on the Enforcers. Give me a break! At Holloween Hacov 1991, in Chattanooga, Tennessee Bill beat Oz by submission. At the 1991 Starcade Battlebowl: The Lethal Lottery, Bill and his partner Jushin "Thunder" Liger defeated Diamond Dallas Page and Mike Graham in Norfolk, VA.

After launching successful business ventures and reflecting on his own life, Bill came to understand just how important guidance is for America's Youth. "Leaving communities better than he found them" became his life's passion and has spent the past 15 years speaking to grade schools, churches, and youth programs inspiring youth to realize their potential. As the 300lb strength legend opens up and shares the highs and lows of his journey, he inspires audiences to make positive choices and empowers America's Youth.

dream affirmative core values as a means of making critical training, diet and lifestyle decisions. He will explore functional rest methods and common symptoms of excess fatigue. He will share methods for knowing when an athlete’s program needs to be modified to facilitate successful outcomes. He will also highlight what areas of an athlete’s body commonly hold prodromal stress, “forecasting” challenges that can be avoided through intelligent intervention. Paul will give key indicators of when an athlete’s diet may be the primary cause of musculoskeletal, recovery, and performance challenges.

Paul Chek’s “Eugene Sandow-like” approach to athlete management is highly practical, and is not the product of intellectually based theories so often derived from overly compartmentalized, often soulless science.

John Meadows - Advanced Hypertrophy Training

John Meadows Story - Health and Fitness became a passion of mine at a very young age. I remember very vividly traveling to the local sundry store with my grandmother, and sitting on the floor in the magazine section, reading the “Anatomy and Physiology” section in Muscle and Fitness. I don’t think too many other 12 year olds were interested in this kind of thing, but I thought it was really cool. My grandmother was a very well known cook in our local restaurant, where much of the town ate, so she would always run into people and chat with them, which allowed me ample time to memorize all the muscle names, exercise routines, etc.

When I was 13 years old I entered my first bodybuilding competition. Back in those days there was a 13-17 year old teenage class. Of course I got last, as all the 17 year olds crushed me, but I was hooked. Through the years, I did spend a lot of time in a variety of organized sports including football, wrestling and track. The bodybuilding efforts I was putting in did carry over to the other sports as I wasn’t the biggest and strongest guy without weight training. The increased strength, flexibility and endurance I had paid dividends. This was one facet I really enjoyed about bodybuilding, the amount of work I put into it, was what I got out of it, hard work equals success.

I continued to compete over the years, and have won something like 18 contests along the way including many state, and regional titles, and even a national title. I also have worked with a number of athletes from differing backgrounds and continue to do so. I still train extremely hard, and try to practice what I preach.

I have been fortunate through the years to work with some very smart people like Dr Serrano, and others. I have always made it a goal to seek out the smartest people, and try to learn the most I can from them.

Nutrition is a passion of mine that I love to share with others. There are many things about my program that do not necessarily agree with mainstream theory, but you will see that the philosophies I have are rooted in fact, and not fiction. You will learn that saturated fats aren’t all that bad for you, neither is dietary cholesterol, and many other nutritional truths along the way that you can apply to how you eat for better results.

Presentation Description:

I will walk the audience through my exact training methodology that I use with intermediate to advanced clients seeking maximum hypertrophy. I will do this step by step, and describe how each step the other. I will also cover my views on periodization, how to address weak points, and training frequency.

Health Integration Technique (H.I.T.)™. A multidimensional system integrating the major healing arts and applying lab testing, nutrition, homeopathy and multiple modalities.

Fitness Integration Technique (F.I.T.)™ is a multi-dimensional program that creates a “universal evaluation and language” which can become a bridge to integrate clinicians, strength & fitness professionals and the clients they serve.

F.I.T.™ is a standardized, active, reproducible, progressive system of patient/client evaluation. F.I.T.™ is used to determine symmetry, asymmetry, strength and conditioning imbalances, proper range of motion and the flexibility/inflexibility of hard and soft tissue components resulting in a three dimensional “body map”. The evaluation measures a person’s comprehensive neuro-musculo-skeletal-fascial system and “General Physical Preparedness” (GPP). Imbalances are determined by evaluating and scoring single axis movements in standard planes of motion and graduating to multi-axial (skilled) movement patterns. Ultimately, the information transfers to open skilled activity in daily life or in elite athletic performance. The results of the F.I.T.™ evaluation then assists the integration of professional treatment recommendations.

The goal of F.I.T.™ is to enhance communication between trained clinicians and strength and fitness professionals to develop integrated clinical and performance programs to improve their results. Each clinician and/or performance specialist will excel in “active” examination procedures and provide a treatment solution of specific, prescribed “Clinical Exercise™” programs to correct and optimize beyond the concept of ideal neutral posture and to graduate to optimum (flexibility, strength, balance and agility) movement and performance patterns.

Ian King - Injury Prevention in Strength Training

KSI was founded in 1986 by Australian physical preparation coach Ian King in response to overwhelming demand for his services. Ian set out on his coaching career in 1980 with the aim to answer the question 'what is the best way to train', and to provide other athletes with the solutions he found to this question. By 1986, with over 100 elite athletes under his guidance, he founded KSI.

During the last 30 plus years Ian, KSI and KSI Coaches have serviced athletes through eight Olympic Games cycles, both Summer and Winter, World Cups, World Championships and Commonwealth Games, in over 20 different sports at the elite level in over ten different countries.

From the early 1980s Ian was concurrently involved in coach education. During the 1980s he wrote and taught the first strength training accreditation course in Australia, travelling throughout his home state to deliver it. During the 1990s Ian was the primary contributor for the first 'strength & conditioning' accreditation courses offered in Australia. From the late 1990s to the present Ian's focus has been on offering what KSI athlete preparation education to a global audience, through the KSI University, formed in 1999.

KSI now has coaches involved in varying levels of it's coach education from most countries around the world. These coaches are athlete focused, and at the highest level also serve the elite athlete, including the successful production of Olympic representatives and medalists.

In 1999 Ian released the first of his Get Buffed!™ educational material aimed at the those training for size, strength and or leanness, following the successful response to his published articles on internet and hard copy strength training magazines in the US.

Following the longest running training program series in the history of Men's Health magazine (spanning 6 six issues during 2000-2001), Ian was asked by Men's Health to publish a book about his training methods. The Book of Muscle resulted.

In 2000 in partnership with a global leader in health science Ian formed the Dream Team, a global alliance offering training and support to develop entrepreneurial skills in physical preparation coaches (and others). In addition to enhancing health and performance in athletes and non-athletes, the specific focus is on guiding industry professionals to creating leveraged income. This program is now operating in about 20 different countries and growing. Ian's success in this endeavor has been recognized in the American newspaper USA Today.

For the athlete, KSI also operates a number of Athlete Training Centers in a number of locations throughout the world, as well as optimal athlete preparation programs from even more locations, provided by KSI Coaches. No other coach or service provider has impacted as many athletes and coaches in so many different sports and countries as has Ian King and KSI.

For the coach, KSI offers the world's most extensive real-world tried and testing physical preparation coach education material through a range of books, DVDs, audios, seminars and courses. KSI coaches undergo the most extensive practical based coach education in the world. The KSI coaching program is the global leader in standards of excellence and program depth.

For the non-athlete, Ian King's original training innovations, have influenced training methods universally more than any other individual coach in modern physical preparation.

KSI focus is on excellence in sport, not on impressing through marketing. We choose to let our impact in the practical world do the talking. We acknowledge however that in the crowded and hyped-up world of marketing this can leave us disadvantaged in terms of perception. Keep this in mind as you check out this site - if you can't find the answers to your question send us an email at [email protected].

Presentation Description:

Between approximately the 1960s and the 2000s the adoption of strength training by athletes and sporting teams provided a unique performance advantage. This training method spread through all sports, all ages and all levels of qualification during this period. It is proposed that the inclusion of strength training in an athletes training program no longer provides the unique performance benefit it once did. Alternatively it is proposed that the athlete whose strength training does not lead to performance limiting, playing time reducing, or career threatening injuries holds the unique performance advantage.

The correlation between enhanced strength and performance improvements is well accepted and extensively researched. On the contrary the correlation between strength training and the increased incidence and severity of injuries in sport is not. It is proposed that future ‘breakthroughs’ in training may result from an increased appreciation and understanding of this relationship, and that those who embrace this proposition will gain an early lead on their competitors in the same way the introduction of strength training did, prior to the saturation of acceptance.

The theories, concepts and hypotheses provided in this presentation are based on thirty plus years of professional application and observation by the presenter, and may be of interest to the coaches and athletes who place a premium on optimizing performance, and who possess the foresight to gain performance advantages in a period prior to the tipping point of acceptance and application of the concepts proposed. In other words, for those who have the courage to pioneer prior it them becoming the dominant trend.

Dr. Peter Jaillet - Assess and Treat The Brain for WeightTraining Injuries

A Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist, Dr. Jaillet has been doing research in the field of neurology for the past twenty years. He has earned over 2700+ content hours in both Applied Kinesiology and Neurology.

A native of Massachusetts, he moved to Texas in 1991with his family to attend Parker College of Chiropractic. Married, with two children, he has maintained a busy chiropractic practice in Carrollton, Texas for 20 years.

In 1995, during treatment with two world class athletes, Dr. Jaillet developed the concept and first prototype for Eyelights, a therapeutic device that uses light to stimulate the non-dominant brain/system. Through further research he found that light and color therapy also increased a child’s ability to learn.

Eyelights are now being worn worldwide by Olympic gold medalists, children with learning disabilities, and people suffering from neurological disorders.Dr. Jaillet received his diplomate in Clinical Neurology under the guidance of Dr. Frederick Carrick, Dr. Jaillet is currently teaching and speaking throughout the country, and continues to do research on alternative treatments of brain disorders and innovative therapies for the learning impaired. Eyelights were designed to provide optimal stimulation to the brain using the optic nerve.

Glasses designed with flashing lights built to fit behind the lens, they can be programmed to blink on the non-dominant eye in order to strengthen the weaker side of the brain.

Since one of the most direct avenues to the brain is via the eye, a child can learn more effectively if they are seeing correctly.

An athlete will perform better because the eye is able to gather all of the information necessary to perform.By stimulating the weaker hemisphere of the brain you allow it to become stronger, thus improving overall performance. One method ofstimulating the brain is to use light pulses.

When using Eyelights you can control the intensity, frequency, and pattern of light pulses, which will result in being able to "wake up" the weaker side of the brain. In 1995, Brain Based Learning Labs' Carrollton facility developed the concept and first prototype for Eyelights.

Two patients, an Olympic swimmer and a world champion soccer player, had begun to see a decrease in their level of athletic performance. Through many hours of research and study, it was discovered that light therapy improved these athletes physical performance on and off the field. There was, however, one problem in the fact that the athletes had to come to the clinic for treatment. In an effort to give portability to the therapy, Brain Based Learning Labs developed the first set of Eyelights.

Page 25: swis.caswis.ca/.../2015/11/SWIS2015SymposiumBioandTopics.docx · Web viewSWIS Symposium 2015 Presenter Bio and Topic Description Fri. Nov. 13 – 8:30-9:00 Opening Presentation -

changed the lives of countless people worldwide, many of his clients, his students and their clients. By treating the body as a whole system and finding the root cause of a problem, Paul has been successful where traditional approaches have consistently failed. Paul is the founder of the C.H.E.K (Corrective Holistic Exercise Kinesiology) Institute, based in California, USA and the P~P~S Success Mastery Coaching Program.

Presentation Description:

Paul will discuss the importance of identifying an effective motive (dream) to keep athletes inspired to learn and grow through the many challenges inherent to elite athletic performance. The importance of dream affirmative core values as a means of making critical training, diet and lifestyle decisions.

Presentation Description:

In this 90-minute presentation, Joe will tell you why the 10-yard sprint and pushing a heavy sled should be two staples in almost every athlete's program - regardless of their sport. He will also give specific details as to why he feels most speed experts are wrong about resisted sprints and heavy sled drags. Contrary to popular belief, they do NOT "train your body to be slow" as most coaches will tell you. In fact, Joe feels they are one of the most powerful tools for improving an athlete's ability to accelerate - and he's got a 15-year in-house study to back up his claims! You will definitely leave this presentation with an entirely new perspective on one of the most controversial topics in the industry!

Presentation Description:

Protein and creatine monohydrate supplementation have been shown to have a positive effect on muscle protein synthesis in response to single bouts or resistance exercise. Moreover, muscle protein accretion and subsequent hypertrophy is augmented in response to periods of resistance training when performed in conjunction with the ingestion of either of these supplements. Protein ingestion has an insulinogenic effect and, combined with the direct effect of the amino acid leucine, stimulates the Akt/mTOR signaling pathway in skeletal muscle. Creatine monohydrate appears to be a role as a co-

factor in regulating the activity of the myogenic regulatory factor transcription factors, in their ability to result in the transactivation of muscle-specific genes. Lower carbohydrate intakes, along with a higher intake of polyunsaturated fatty acids, in one’s daily diet are known to help mediate body fat loss. A diet lower in carbohydrates may entice the body into relying more of triglycerides as a fuel substrate, thereby up-regulating adipose tissue lipolysis. Polyunsatured fatty acids are known the inhibit the activity of the enzyme fatty acid synthase, which is an important regulator of de novo lipogenesis.

SWIS Chiropractic Presenters and Delegates - Demonstrating Their Favorite Adjustments for Specific Weight Training Injuries

What happens when you are at most chiropractic technique seminars? You end up chatting in the hallway with one of your colleagues, and next thing you know you are shown one or two really cool adjustments. In fact, you usually end up getting an adjustment that is awesome from one of your colleagues and you just want to learn how to do it.

So my goal is to bring the hallway to the presentation stage by getting all the chiropractors who are presenting at SWIS to the stage to demonstrate how they do their unique adjustments for various conditions. Each SWIS 2015 chiropractor will be given 1-2 minutes each on how they would assess and adjust various joint disorders like an upper thoracic dysfunction or A/C joint subluxation, or a rib fixation or a lumbar facet joint imbrication or a sacro-iliac joint fixation and dozens of other joint dysfunctions.

In fact, I know there will be many great chiropractors in the audience, and they are also allowed to come onto the stage to demonstrate their favorite technique.

Page 29: swis.caswis.ca/.../2015/11/SWIS2015SymposiumBioandTopics.docx · Web viewSWIS Symposium 2015 Presenter Bio and Topic Description Fri. Nov. 13 – 8:30-9:00 Opening Presentation -

Each adjustment will be filmed with close up cameras, so you can review it again later.

My goal is to have them demonstrate 20-30 new adjustments in 90 minutes, which can give you a whole new level of adjusting technique.

No fluff. No long winded explanations. Just straight "here is how you do the adjustment" demonstrated on Dr. Ken Kinakin.

Presenters that have confirmed they will be part of the panel:

Dr. David Leaf

Dr. Mark Scappaticci

Dr. Jerome Rerucha

Dr. Dale Buchberger

Dr. Rob Rakowski

And there will be more...

Be there for one of the most unique presentations of the symposium.
