Swacch Bharat Abhiyan at New Mangalore Port Trust

Swachh Bharat or Swacch Bharat Abhiyan or Clean India Mission is a national level

awareness campaign by the Government of India, covering 4041 statutory towns to clean the

streets, roads and infrastructure of the country. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was announced by

honorable Prime Minister of India Sri NarendraModijiOn Indian Independence Day & launched

on 2nd

Oct 2014, Gandhi Jayanti. On this day, Modiji addressed the citizens of India in a public

gathering held at Rajghat, New Delhi, India and asked everyone to join this campaign. More than

3 million government employees and schools and colleges students of India have participated in

this event. This campaign aims to accomplish the vision of ‘Clean India” by 2nd

October 2019,

150th

birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.

As a consequence to the theme launched by Prime minister a ‘Swachh Bharat Run’ was

organized by the New Mangalore port Trust (NMPT) on 2nd

October 2015 as a mark of respect

to Gandhiji. The event was flagged off by Chairman, P.C.Parida and Dy.Chairman, Suresh P

Shirwadkar. Around 100 employees participated including HoD’s and Dy.HoD’s. Cleaning

Started from Walking yard opposite to JNC hall, road from JNC hall park to water tank and

cleaning of entire water tank area. In these areas all plastic covers, , bottles and jungle growth

were removed.

To give a fillip to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at New Mangalore port Trust and to enrich

and enlarge the scope and coverage of the programme, two groups were formed vide order No.

CHPS/3/2015 dtd 05/10/2015 of Chairman, NMPT. Group – I consisting of Officers/ Officials of

Civil Engineering , General Administration , and Finance Departments, headed by Secretary to

carry out Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on 2nd

Saturdays and Group-II consisting of Officers/

Officials of Marine, Mechanical , Traffic and Medical Departments, headed by Chief

Mechanical Engineer to carry out Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on 4th

Saturdays. In this connection,

Group-I carried out Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on 13th

May 2016. The event was flagged off by

Secretary. Around 27 employees participated including Dy.HoD’s. Cleaning started from Dr.

B.R. Ambedkar stadium back side. In these areas all plastic covers, cups, bottles, old cloths , and

weeds etc. were removed. Photographs are enclosed as Annexure - I (Pg. No.03 to Pg.No.8)
