Sustainable: Sustain to bear, holdGreen: Green is associated with nature.Affordability: Afford- to be able to do,
manage
Green design refers to peoples health, safetyand welfare, while sustainable design isassociated with health, safety and welfare ofthe planet (Kang,2006).

Energy efficient product but not recycled orpoisonous manufacturing etc
(green but not sustainable) Recycled but not energy efficient
(sustainable but not green) Energy efficient or recycled and natures
friendly (sustainable and green)For eg. Wood & bamboo are green productand if they harvest in sustainable way thenthey can be considered sustainable.

"Sustainable design can be defined asecological design design that integratesseamlessly with the ecological systems inthe biosphere over the entire life cycle"(Yeang, Edwards, 2001).
Sustainability is an approach of architecturein which we try to use natural renewable
resources and recycle materials to reducepollution and waste in ecosystem by gettingcomfortable facilities in a controlled way.

To reduce energy expenditure. Enhance the health and well-being of the
building occupant.
Improve the quality of the naturalenvironment.
It covers design, construction facilities, management human well being, and waste
management.

The roots of sustainability were started in the20th century
Frank Lloyd Wright, Hassan Fatty, Richards Roger,Norman Foster
In 1960, sustainability took as global movement. After 1970, most people became conscious of
the built environment because of the energycrisis.
Previous theory: economical, social, andenvironmental factors ;
Todays Theory: building products, manufacturing process, resources, andenvironmental protection.

Architect McDonough developed theHanover Principles in 1992 during thesustainability movement.
Insist on the rights of humanity and natureto co-exist in a healthy, supportive, diverse, and sustainable condition.
Recognize interdependence. The elements
of human design interact with the naturalworld, with broad and diverse implicationsat every scale.

Respect relationships between spirit andmatter. Consider all aspect of humansettlements including community, dwelling,
industry and trade in terms of existing andevolving connections between spiritual andmaterial consciousness.
Accept responsibility for the consequences ofdesign decision on human well-being,feasibility of natural system and their right tocoexist.
Create safe objects of long terms values. Donot burden future generations with
requirements for maintenance or vigilantadministration of potential danger due to thecareless creation of product, process orstandards.

Eliminate the concept of waste. Evaluateand optimize the full life cycle of productand process, to approach the state of
natural systems, in which there is no waste. Rely on natural energy flow. Human designsshould, like the living world, derive creativeforces from perpetual solar energy.Incorporate this energy efficiency and safely
for responsible use. Understand the limitation of design. No
human creation last forever and designdoes not solve all problems. Those create
and plan should practice humanity in theface of nature. Treat nature as model andmentored, not as an inconvenience to beevaded or controlled.

Seek constant improvement bys haring ofknowledge. Encourage direct and opencommunication between colleagues, patrons,
manufactures and uses to link long-termsustainable considerations with ethicalresponsibility, and re establish the integralrelationship between natural processes andhuman activity.(McDonough, W. 1992,Snyder,2005)
