and airports
• Planning, procurement, design, delivery and
operations/maintenance
• Resources and materials
• Workforce
• Project excellence
From social licence to value creation

Role of ISCA in the Industry
What is Infrastructure Sustainability
• Infrastructure sustainability
• Sustainable infrastructure
• Green infrastructure
Infrastructure sustainability (IS Technical Manual) ,” …
infrastructure that is planned, designed, constructed
and operated to optimise environmental, societal and
economic outcomes over the long term”.
8
• Common national language for sustainability in infrastructure
• Consistent application and evaluation of sustainability in tendering processes
• Scoping whole-of-life sustainability risks for projects and assets, enabling smarter solutions that reduce risks and costs
• Fosters resource efficiency and waste reduction, reducing costs
• Fosters innovation and continuous improvement • Builds an organisation’s credentials and reputation in
its approach to sustainability in infrastructure

Whitsunday Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrades $45 Million Tenix
• Sustainable procurement with 80% spent in local Whitsunday and in Queensland region
• A world first– Parallel Nitrification and DeNitrification Technology
• Realised savings of $1.4 million
26
Gold Coast Light Rail Stage One $437 Million McConnell Dowell
• Significant reduction in materials lifecycle • Achieved very high diversion rates from landfill • 55% improvement in embodied carbon based on a
reference design • Realised savings of $14 million
27
Googong Water Treatment Chemical Facility Upgrade $6 Million ACTEW
• Clear commitment to mitigating negative environmental, social and economic impacts are embedded within KPI based targets which are included in contractual agreements
• Significant reduction in materials lifecycle impact through steel and concrete use
28
Great Eastern Highway Upgrade $350 Million Main Roads WA
• Largest use of recycled material on any WA state road with 43% of imported material being recycled
• Project installed groundwater bores and constructed weir, on completion, was handed to the local council to irrigate parks

29
Gateway WA $1 Billion Main Roads WA
• Comprehensive and thorough stakeholder engagement strategy
• LED lighting for highway roads – first for Australia • Excellent integrated decision making process which considers
sustainability • Suppliers requested to address sustainability, environmental
aspects and apprenticeships
30
Enlarged Cotter Dam $299 Million Bulk Water Alliance
• Sustainability incentivised through KPIs • Sustainability opportunities were identified and tied to
KRAs and KPIs • 100% of potable water use has been replaced with non
potable water • Optimised design materials choices the project achieved a
significant reduction in the lifecycle environmental impact of materials
31
North West Rail Link Early Works Lend Lease
• Heritage protection – discovery of the White Hart Inn with artefacts preserved and modifying the sky rail section of the project
• Excellent waste management systems with good solid data as evidence
• Sustainability commitments embedded in contracts

Adelaide Airport
This rating would cover the overall operation of the Airport including aprons, runways, taxiways, roads, carparks, services, terminals.
This project is registered to pursue
an IS Pilot Operations Rating
“Adelaide Airport Limited is
committed to managing and
developing Adelaide and
Parafield Airports in a
sustainable manner. We
have therefore registered
for an IS Operations Rating
for the our Adelaide
airport.”
33
North-South Corridor (Torrens Road to River Torrens)
This project includes a 3.7 km upgrade of South Road incorporating a 1.4 km long non-stop lowered road. It also includes a rail overpass, improving pedestrian and cycling facilities and other intersection upgrades.
This project is registered to pursue
an IS As Built Rating
“It is anticipated that the registration of the project for an IS rating will drive the implementation of sustainability initiatives throughout all project phases. It will provide a sustainable performance baseline for future projects and enable DPTI to benchmark this project against other major infrastructure projects nationally.”
