Carnegie Classifications 2000

• In 2000, the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching restructured its well-known, if controversial, institutional classification system

• DR Ext – “Doctoral/research universities-extensive” is a new category (with more institutions than the former “top” category, Research I) for institutions that confer 50 doctorates a year in at least 15 disciplines
