4.2 Assembly and preparation4.2.1 Safety instructions

Docking, undocking, and moving the device

Incorrect docking or undocking can result in the device falling down. There is also a risk of tipping over when the device is moved on the service cart.

The responsible personnel must be trained and appropriately instructed in handling the device. Otherwise there is a risk of personal injury or property damage.

► The device may only be docked, undocked, and moved by appropriately trained personnel.

Unintentional movement of ceiling supply unit or service cart

Incorrect handling of the ceiling supply unit or the service cart can cause persons or objects to be trapped. Personal injury or property damage may result as a consequence.

► Take particular care when moving a device which is coupled to the ceiling supply unit.

► When positioning the service cart, take care that your hands do not get into the area between the device and the service cart.

Remote control

Unintentional movement of the ceiling supply unit or the service cart can cause persons or objects to be trapped. Personal injury or property damage may result as a consequence.

► Prevent accidental activation of the remote control, e.g., by objects.

If the device is not correctly aligned for docking with the ceiling supply unit, it may fall down from the mount or tip over. Personal injury or property damage may result as a consequence.

► Do not use the remote control for docking and undocking.

Key switch

If the key switch for the ceiling supply unit is not present or if it is in the wrong position, safety functions of the ceiling supply unit will not be available. As a result, persons could be put at risk.

► Only operate the device with ceiling supply units with key switches. The key switch must be in the correct position. If the key switch is missing, contact specialized service personnel.

► Make sure that the key is removed from the key switch after docking or undocking. Keep the key in a safe place, e.g., on the service cart.

► Make sure that the key switch is only in the diagonal position for docking or undocking when necessary.

Accessories

If an accessory is fitted to the device which projects below the lowest point of the anesthesia workstation, the accessory may strike objects or persons when the ceiling supply unit is lowered. Personal injury or property damage may result as a consequence.

► Only fit accessories that maintain a distance of at least 12 cm (4.7 in) from the floor when the anesthesia workstation is lowered to its lowest point.

Load

The product labels attached to the shelves and the drawer indicate the permissible maximum load.

If the maximum total weight of the ceiling supply unit is exceeded, the load cannot be supported. Personal injury or property damage may result as a consequence.

► Refer to the instructions for use of the ceiling supply unit and observe the maximum total weight.

► In addition to the nominal weight and any other accessories (such as carrying systems or monitors), these loads must be considered when calculating the total weight.

Transport for service activities

There is an increased risk of tipping over once the device has been connected to the service cart.

► Preparation for transport and actual transport of the device on the service cart may be carried out only if there is no patient in the immediate vicinity.

► When the device is connected to the service cart, it must not be used as the trolley version.

► For transport, move all the fitted arms into the transport position. To do this, swing the arms toward the center of the device and secure them with a strap.

This transport position is required for inclines greater than 5°.

► Take particular care when moving the device, as it can tip over under certain circumstances.

6.2 Assembly and preparation6.2.1 Safety instructions

Docking, undocking, and moving the device

Incorrect docking or undocking can result in the device falling down. There is also a risk of tipping over when the device is moved on the service cart.

The responsible personnel must be trained and appropriately instructed in handling the device. Otherwise there is a risk of personal injury or property damage.

► The device may only be docked, undocked, and moved by appropriately trained personnel.

Inadvertent movement of the ceiling supply unit

Inadvertent movement or incorrect handling of the ceiling supply unit can trap persons or objects and cause crushing in the case of persons. Personal injury or property damage may result as a consequence.

► Take particular care when moving a device which is coupled to the ceiling supply unit.

► Take care to keep your hands out of the space between the device and the ceiling supply unit when docking and undocking.

Key switch

When the device is operated with a ceiling supply unit with key switch, the switch must be in the horizontal position. The lifting functions of the ceiling supply unit will not be available if the key switch is in the wrong position (diagonal or vertical). Furthermore, this can lead to unintentional undocking of the device from the ceiling supply unit. As a result, persons could be put at risk.

► The key switch must be in the horizontal position.

► Ensure that the key is removed from the key switch. Keep the key in a safe place, e.g., on the service cart.

The device version with integrated castors may tip over under certain circumstances. If handled incorrectly, the anesthesia machine may tip over during transport. Personal injury or property damage may result as a consequence.

Transport includes:

– Any movement of the device on solid ground

– Docking or undocking the device with/from the ceiling supply unit

Note the following information concerning transport:

► Attached parts such as vaporizers, monitors, or arms must be removed before the device is undocked for further transport.

► Preparation for transport and actual transport of the device must only be carried out if there is no patient in the immediate vicinity.

► The device must not be used as a trolley version.

► Use only the handles intended for movement.

► The anesthesia machine may be moved only by persons who have the physical ability to do so.

► Always have the anesthesia machine moved by 2 persons. This allows for better maneuverability.

► When the device is moved over inclines, around corners, or over thresholds (e.g., through doors or in elevators), make sure that it does not bump against anything.

► Do not pull the device over hoses, cables, or other obstacles lying on the floor.

► Take particular care when moving the device on inclines greater than 5°.

6.2.2 Combination with ceiling supply unitsThe ceiling-mounted version can be docked with ceiling supply units. There is no requirement for a key switch.
