The physics case

See for example:The Discovery Potential of a Super B Factory (Slac-R-709)Letter of Intent for KEK Super B Factory ( KEK Report 2004-4 )Physics at Super B Factory ( hep-ex/0406071 )At the URL :www.pi.infn.it/SuperByou can find documents and links to documentsIn addition the case was discussed in the CERN series of

workshops organized by M.Mangano and T.Hurth of the Cern Theory division

Flavour Physics in the era of LHCThe first 3 worksops in Nov 2006, Feb 2006, May 2006The May workshop included a special session devoted to High

intensity, High luminosity flavour experiments with a comparison of the existing projects as SuperB, SuperKEKB and LHCb .

The fourth CERN meeting will be held in october 10-12,2006

The Machine Requirements• Peak luminosity at Y4s > 1036

• Geometrical acceptance> 99%• Background in the detector < present background

in BaBar and Belle• Narrow beams and low bkgd allowing better• vertexing• Large Synergy with ILC.• Wall power <<50MW• Operation at the same time of LHC and before ILC.EVALUATE (cost/benefit also compared to the main

physics program):1. Possible operations in special runs at lower energy

as SuperTauCharm 2. Possibility of one polarized beam for studying

asymmetries due to T odd observables in tau decay.

• Defined a parameters set based on ILC-like parameters

• Same DR emittances

• Same DR bunch length

• Same DR bunch charges

• Same DR damping time

• Same ILC-IP betas

• Crossing Angle and Crab Waist to minimize BB blowup

From the 3rd SuperB Workshop (June )…

Since beginning of SuperB International Study Group the goal was clear:Study physics case, machine and detector for a Super Flavor Factory with a

luminosity higher than 1036, to study physics in b, c and t sectors.Prepare by the end of 2006 a Conceptual Design Report “CDR” to be delivered

to the President of INFN and presented to the International Community.Events: July23-26 : Meeting at ITEP Moscow Presentations on Super KEKB and on SuperB projects followed by a round

table

…to the fourth one (November)

Finalize the machine designComplete the detector designReview the various Physics Chapters Write everything up,Make the Editorial Board of theConceptual Design Report

The Site

Site of SuperB is not defined and will remain undefined for quite a while.

With present parameter choice the SuperB can reuse almost all the components of PEP-II.

It can be located in a tunnel of 6Km, 3Km or 2 Km.

Possible existing locations:Hamburg-Desy (Fermilab?)KEKSlacNew site?? at the moment this is our first choice!
