Myrtle Beach 2018 Vacation Update: Unfortunately, this year ’s Myr tle Beach vacation that was

postponed due to Hurricane Florence, has officially been canceled. Fees paid for this and any missed

activities during the months of July, August and September will be issued soon.

2018 Indian River Citrus Fundraiser for Arc Knox County/Sunshine Leisure Services- The official kickoff for our

8th Annual Citrus Sale is on Friday, October 26th. Get those sales lined up now. More details coming soon!

Free Tickets to the Kerbela Shrine Circus- The Kerbela Temple Shriners have made available free tickets to the 41st

Annual Shrine Circus at Thompson-Boling Arena, October 12-14. Individuals and families interested in going on their

own can request tickets from Leisure Services. Show times are 7:00 pm on Friday, October 12th, and 1:00 and 7:00 on

Saturday and Sunday. Contact Leisure Services for tickets.

Fall Bocce Ball League with Knoxville Parks and Recreation– Thursdays through November 1st- It’s official! The

first night of competition is in the books. Thirty players are registered and will continue to compete on Thursdays

through November 1st. Registration for this league took place in September and is closed, but for those of you who

signed up, here are the participation options again. Participation Option 1: Leave from Sunshine at 2:45 to bowl at

Fountain Lanes and then eat dinner before bocce. Cost is $8 x 5 nights for a total of $40. Note: You must sign up

separately for bowling ($6). Participation Option 2: Report to Fountain Lanes to go eat before bocce ball. Cost is $8 x 5

nights for a total of $40 Participation Option 3: Report to Adair Park at 5:45 for the league. Everyone

should get picked up at the park by 7:15.

Special Olympics Basketball Registration and Practices- Leisure Services is looking for basketball

players for this year’s teams. The first practice will be on Monday, the 15th and 29th as well as Tuesday, the 23rd. Plans

are to practice at the outdoor courts by Cal Johnson Recreation Center on Hall of Fame Drive. Depart Sunshine at 3:45

and return at 5:15. Actual practice times are from 4-5. If interested, be sure to sign up on your activity registration or

contact Leisure Services and let them know you are interested in playing. Cost: Free!

Adult Special Olympics Bowling Tournament– Monday, the 22nd- Special Olympics of Greater Knoxville will host a

one-day adult tournament on Monday, the 22nd, at Fountain Lanes on Broadway. If you would like to participate in this

event please register with Leisure Services by Monday, the 15th. Depart Sunshine at 3:45 if you plan to ride

with Leisure Services or report no later than 4:15 to the lanes if going on your own. Cost is free!

101 Dalmatians at the Knoxville Children’s Theater– Friday, the 5th- Based on the classic animated film,

“Disney’s 101 Dalmatians Kids” is a fur-raising adventure, featuring Cruella de Vil and 101 of the most adorable heroes

to ever set their paws on stage. Participation Option 1: Leave Sunshine at 4pm to eat dinner followed by the play. Cost:

$22 Participation Option 2: Report to Sunshine Industries at 6:30 for the play only. Cost: $22. Everyone returns at 8:15.

Kerbela Shriner Circus– Friday, the 12th- Come with us to the 40th annual Kerbela Shriner Circus on the 21st.

Participation Option 1: Leave from Sunshine Industr ies at 3:45 to go eat a fast food dinner followed by the circus.

Cost is $12. Participation Options 2: Meet at Sunshine at 6:00 to go to the circus only. Cost: $1 Return: 10:00.

Dollywood Fall Excursion– Tuesday, the 16th- Join us on our third excursion to Dollywood this season. We

will depart Sunshine at 2:00 and return at 9:30. Participation Option #1: Season pass holders pay $18 for lunch

at Miss Lillian’s Chicken House. Participation Option #2: $60 for non-season pass holders for admission and

the same dinner.

“You Pick Friday”, October 19th

Coco the Movie on Market Square– Friday, the 19th- See the movie “Coco” on the 19th outside on the big screen at

Market Square. Important Note! The weather has the potential to be a little on the chilly side so check the weather

forecast the night before and come prepared. It is your responsibility to dress according to the weather. Participation

Option 1: Depart Sunshine Industries at 4:00 for dinner followed by the movie. Cost: $12 Participation Option 2: Report

to Market Square at 6:30 for the movie only. Cost for this option is $2. We plan to return between 9-9:15 depending on

when the movie actually ends.

Ice Bear’s Hockey– Friday, the 19th- Join us for our first visit of the new season to the “ice den” to watch the Ice

Bears take on the Evansville Thunderbolts. Participation Option 1: Leave Sunshine at 4:00 PM to eat dinner before the

match. Cost: $22. Participation Option 2: Leave Sunshine at 6:30 PM for the match only. Cost: $12. Everyone returns

at 10:45.

Board Games at Inskip Recreation Center– Wednesday, the 24th- Daniel Alexander, employee of the year with the

City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation, invites you out to another afternoon of board game fun at Inskip Recreation

Lady Vols Volleyball— Wednesday, the 24th– Cheer on the Lady Vols volleyballer s when they take on the

University of South Carolina.. Participation Option 1: Attend the board game activity beforehand followed by dinner

and the match. Cost: $12. (Board game fee of $1 should be paid separately.) Participation Option 2: Report to

Sunshine at 4:30 and head to dinner followed by the match. Cost: $12 Return time: 9:30.

“You Pick Friday”, October 26th

The WordPlayers’ Gulf View Drive– Friday, the 26th- Gulf View Drive is an engaging story set in Florida during

the 1950’s. The crush of dreams and the turbulence of events just outside their door threaten the comfortable life of

Raleigh and May. Relatives descend causing their dream house to shrink, further testing the couple’s love as they make

unconventional decisions in a changing world. Participation Option 1: Depart Sunshine at 4:00 to eat dinner before the

play. Cost: $22. Participation Option 2: Report to Sunshine at 6:15 for the play only. Cost: $13 Return time: 10:00.

OR

Haunted Adventure– Friday, the 26th-- Head out in search of some "frightening" fun. The plan is to visit a yet-to-be

announced scary place in the Knoxville area. Participation Option 1: Leave from Sunshine at 4:00 to eat a picnic

dinner at one of the local parks so that we can put more money towards the attraction. Cost is $24. Participation Option

2: Report to Sunshine Industries at 5:30 and head out for a thrill of a lifetime. Cost is $20.. Return Time: 9:30.

Ballinger Farm’s Hayride, Pumpkin Pick and Crazy Corn Maze– Tuesday, the 30th- It’s time for another trip to

the Ballinger Farm in Jefferson County for one of our most popular fall traditions. Here, Teresa and her clan will play

host to a great afternoon of fun. Test your navigation skills in their crazy corn maze and then take a hayride out to the

pumpkin patch where you will pick out that all-so-important pumpkin. Depart Sunshine at 2:45 pm and return at 8:00.

Cost: $15 and includes a weenie-roast at the farm.

Human Foosball at Inskip Recreation Center– Wednesday, the 31st- This is one fun activity that is guaranteed to

get your blood pumping. Depart Sunshine at 2:45 and return at 4:15. Cost: $1

English Mountain Trout Farm– Friday, November 2nd- Head out for the last visit of the year to visit with Charlie,

Angie, and Cody at English Mountain Trout Farm. Here they guarantee you’ll catch that “whopper” of a fish

because of those highly specialized cane poles that come equipped with fish finders. Once caught, your fish

will be filleted and cooked by the staff while you sit back and relax. Cost for the entire evening is $24. Depart

3:45 Return: 8:30

Two-Mile Walking Group– Join us on Mondays from 2:45-4:15 at Victor Ashe Park for some “good ole

fashioned exercise. Cost: $1. Please note we will not walk on Monday, the 15th, but instead Tuesday, the 23rd.

Bowling- Thursdays in October from 2:45-4:15. Location: Fountain Lanes. Cost: $6.
