Contact the church office if you know of someone who

could benefit from receiving a prayer shawl

Prayer is the most powerful tool! Would you like our First Parish Prayer Team

praying for your needs? Please fill out a prayer

request. You will find the prayer cards in the back

of the Sanctuary on the Williams Table. Our Prayer

Box is also there to drop in your prayer request.

The Prayer Team will gather them up each week,

and they will pray for your needs.

Lisa Carpenter would like everyone to know that

between-service prayer time will continue at 10 am

in the Chapel.

To my Church Family,

As I recuperate from hip surgery, I want to express

my thanks for all the flowers, cards, and visits I

have received. They all helped to lift my spirits and

were a help in my recovery.

Hallmark Health VNA and Hospice to

Hold Kids and Grief Support

Children react differently from adults regarding the

death of a loved one. To assist in helping children

process their loss, Hallmark Health Visiting Nurse

Association and Hospice is sponsoring a Kids and

Grief Support Group for children ages 6-12.

The next support group for children begins

Wednesday, September 27, 2017 from 4:30 to 6:00

pm. and meets every other week for six sessions. A

parents and caregivers support group meets at the

same time.

According to Judy Seifert, Bereavement

Coordinator at Hallmark Health VNA and Hospice,

the Groups provide a safe place for children to not

only express their feelings, but also to share

memories, meet new friends, and learn how to

process their grief. Registration is required to

attend. For information and to register, call Judy

Seifert at (781) 338-7861.

Be refreshed as a Stephen Minister

A Refresher Course will be offered to those who have already been trained in Stephen Ministry.

Please speak to Pastor Greg or contact Pam Hodgson at

781-944-5477 or email her at [email protected] to

sign up or if you would like more information.

Stephen Ministry Training is planned to begin sometime in

October. Stephen Ministry is a training program that

equips men and women to minister to their brothers and

sisters. This wonderful program began at our church in

February of 1988. Have you considered Stephen Ministry

in the past? Please consider attending if you feel the tug of

God on your heart to help in the ministry of caring for

others.

Help for

Hurricanes Due to the devastation of hurricane Irma in Florida,

we have extended the giving time of the “Help

Houston” collection through Sunday, October 1,

2017. At that time, the donations will be sent to

Samaritan’s Purse. If you have a choice, please put

TX or FL in the check memo.

Thank you again for your prayers and gifts to all

those who have been in harm’s way during and after

these disasters.

Outreach

AGAPE INTERNATIONAL MISSION

Please join the Outreach Committee in welcoming

Agape International as a mission supported by our

church family through the Outreach budget. Agape

joins four other international missionaries we

support.

As you recall, Lynn Voggu, the founder and leader

of Agape, visited our church in May to tell us about

her mission. Agape is located in Hyderabad, India

and serves poor and orphaned children who are

suffering as a result of the global AIDS crisis.

There are presently about 250 children from infants

to college age at Agape where they are provided

with a family style home, nutritious meals, medical

care and education. Lynn describes her vision as

love and care for kids from cradle through college.

Agape is supported in large part from individuals

who support a sponsor child. Our church support

will be used to support Agape programs as needed.

We encourage you to visit www.agapeintl.org for

further information about the mission or if you are

interested in supporting a child. It’s an amazing

organization and the web site is very informative

and user friendly.

May we be a blessing to Agape and be blessed as

we pray for and support Agape International!

GNO – September 29th at FPCC 7pm (bring your own water and snack –

please have dinner before you arrive)

Operation Pillow Case

Operation Christmas Child

A SMILE STORY

“Betsy Burnett, of Newark, Illinois, is known as

the “CrazyShoeBoxLady” for her dedication to

Operation Christmas Child, a charity that

sends shoeboxes filled with gifts to children in

need all over the world. She thought a

pillowcase Would be a great addition to the

boxes as they can hold treasures, be turned into

a dress or used as intended. She organized a

sew-a-thon and with her community’s

help, made 294 pillowcases to be added to this

year’s boxes.” (From American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine)

I (Marcia) called a few friends and friends on the

Outreach Committee and they agreed it would be a

great project. The Outreach Committee will be

ordering 100 – 125 shoe boxes. That’s a lot of

shoeboxes!!

Ladies Night Out has scheduled their next meeting

to make pillowcases to be used to help fill our

Operation Christmas Child boxes. You do not have

to be able to sew to be a part of this project. Just

come and join us! There is some part of this

pillowcase project you can help with.

Jane Wilkins and I will also offer an opportunity for

people who do not like to come out in the evening

to come on a Friday morning to make pillowcases.

If you cannot participate, perhaps you could donate

fabric, thread, common pins, or the loan of a

portable sewing machine. Just ask and we will

make you a part of this!

Please contact me, Marcia Phinney, with

questions at 781-245-3527.

Aaron "Woogy" Wolgamott & Family

Associate Pastor of Family and Youth

Ministries

About Pastor Aaron:

Pastor Aaron Wolgamott, often referred to as

Woogy (a nickname that he's had since

College), has been working in ministry for 13

years. He attended Grace University in Omaha,

Nebraska where he double majored in Christian

Education of Youth and Biblical Studies. After

college he spent 8 years working in ministry

there before moving to New Hampshire in 2010

to work at a church in Derry. In November of

2015 he resigned from that position to take a

break from working in ministry while dealing

with a difficult life situation. After more than a

year and a half break from ministry, Pastor

Aaron is very excited to be back working in

ministry once again! He is looking forward to

being a part of First Parish Congregational

Church as well as getting acquainted with the

Wakefield area.

Aaron has four children; Noah, Ali, Hope, and

Kate. His children currently live in

Manchester, New Hampshire with their mother.

They spend part of each weekend with him and

will get to be able to attend First Parish

Congregational Church each week. Noah is in

8th grade and plays baseball and football, Ali is

in 6th grade and likes to be very active and try

new activities, Hope is in 2nd grade and likes to

be creative, and Kate is in 1st grade and enjoys

cheerleading and playing T-ball.

Pastor Aaron is a big fan of football and

basketball. He played football in high school,

and loves to watch both college and pro

football. He enjoys playing pick-up basketball

when he is able and watching NBA games.

Aaron is also a big fan of super hero movies

and Star Wars...so yes, he is a bit of a nerd as

well, unashamedly. Some of his other

favorite past-times include hiking, drinking

coffee, traveling, going out to eat, playing board

games, cookouts, and writing. He has a personal

blog site and has 2 books published as well. As

for traveling, he has had the opportunity to visit

the majority of the states in the USA and has

been able to visit several countries around the

world. Some of the countries he has visited

include Haiti, Nepal, Guatemala, Romania,

Ecuador, and the Philippines.

For more information and to get to know more

about him, feel free to check out his blog page

The Annual Holiday Fair will be held Friday November

10th and Saturday November 11th. Some of the great

things you could donate for the white elephant: kitchen,

glassware, household gadgets, toys, games, puzzles,

books, knick knacks, electronics, jewelry and tools.

Please only donate things in good working order.

We would love it you labeled the boxes with what is

inside. It helps with sorting. Please wrap anything

breakable in newspaper. Every year we end up

throwing away wonderful things. We want to resell

these beautiful pieces, not throw them in the

dumpster. If there is anything of high value please

put it in the office or give it to Tim or Catherine

Callaghan.

WE CANNOT TAKE: TV’S, tube computer

screens, baby car seats, text books, large baby

furniture such as cribs, high chairs, strollers and

play centers.

If you have jewelry you would like to donate please

give it to Linell Nester, Catherine or Tim Callaghan

or the office. We also have craft tables that need to

be filled. If you are a crafty person or a great baker

and have a wonderful idea let us know.

If you have empty baskets to donate please put

on stage.

Thank You from the Fair Committee

BASEMENT PROJECTS UPDATE The Church has received approximately $20,000 in

donations towards the basement renovations. This

will help greatly with any cost overruns we

encounter. On behalf of the Trustees, I would like to

thank those who have donated. If you would like to

contribute, you can do so by putting your check in

the offering plate on Sunday, with "Basement

Projects" in the memo. You can also donate on the

church web page ( www.fpccwakefield.org ). Click

on "GIVING" at the top, and designate your gift to

"Basement Projects".

We have had an architect meet with us to develop

a bathroom plan that will be approved for permit,

As we expected, it is not a straightforward situation.

We are still investigating our options. In the

meantime, we are going forward with the dining

room renovation. We may have the permit by the

time you are reading this. Our hope is to have this

project completed before the Church Fair in

November.

For the Trustees, Joe D'Agostino
