A wise woman once said, “Want to see Jesus in the flesh? Go to Mass!” If we could get away with just writing that simple sentence for this companion we would. It’s incredibly basic and to the point...if you want to see JESUS in the FLESH go to Mass. The Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith. Everything centers around Christ and He comes to us during Mass...the Sacred Liturgy where we worship and draw nearer to Him. Now one of the challenges we face as Catholics is understanding exactly how vital the Liturgy is to our faith. In fact, out of ten guidelines, out of the Ten Commandments God purposefully put, “Keep the Sabbath Holy” as the third in line. He’s trying to tell us something! In our fallen state, as sinners, we have disconnected ourselves from a perfect union with God. But, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life ” (Jn 3:16).

We have a wonderful opportunity to not only experience and see Christ at Mass but receive Him into our bodies. Now this is the greatest hope that we can have: that in receiving Him during worship, we may become more like Him and be ush-ered into the Kingdom of God! So why do we complain when we have to go to Mass? The Liturgy figuratively and literally FEEDS us. We are nourished and given opportunities to get that much closer to Heaven and even experience a large part of Heaven on Earth...Christ!

RCIA ~~ “Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults”

If you think the RCIA may be just what you are looking for, here are some questions you might ask yourself:

1. Have you ever thought about becoming a Catholic? 2. Are you baptized in another Christian faith but have been coming to Mass with your family? 3. Do you wonder just how long it would take to become a part of the Catholic Church? 4. Are you waiting for just the right time, thinking someday I’ll look into it?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions, the RCIA may be the perfect fit for you.

Please call Fr. Guy Sciacca at 978-922-0113.

Classed to begin in November, please register by Friday, October 29, 2021.

Our 150th anniversary: Preparing to receive the gifts that God will bestow. “One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach awaiting a gift from the sea” (Anne Morrow Lindbergh, “A Gift from the Sea”). Lindbergh’s striking image of the interior posture of open receptivity drew its inspiration from her re lection on the experience of walking the beach and taking delight in the sur-prise “gifts” tossed up by the waves onto the sand – a beautiful shell, a piece of sea glass. It

occurred to her that the richer human disposition toward life was a posture of openness, a preparedness to receive. To search for, or to dig for, these treasures from the sea would betray attitudes of impatience and greed that do not bring the inner peace of simplicity and care for the soul. It’s a beautiful image of Christian discipleship. I think of the story of Martha and Mary – Martha, vexed at the demand of household chores and Mary, having chosen the better part, seated and listening to the words of the Lord. And, of course, I think of our Blessed Mother, whose “ iat” was the ultimate act of receptivity – the means by which God would save the world. Our Blessed Mother’s posture of listening to God becomes our model for moving forward as a Church. Our 150th anniversary poses many questions and a time of grace. Do I – do we – have the capacity to receive from the Lord the spontaneous treasures and unforeseen moments of grace – even the ones that are disguised as hardship and dif iculty? These present days offer us the oppor-tunity to entrust ourselves to the loving providence of God. Will I? Will you? “The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD” (Lamentations 3:25-26). Amen!
