From Our Pastor

As we gathered together for Sunday School and worship on March 15, I don’t think any of us could have imagined it would be the last time we would be together as a church for at least two months. The past two months have been difficult in many respects and for many people, but this time has also offered a time of renewal, at least it has for me. Like many of you, I have spent more time with my family than I have for at least twenty-six years, which is when I began serving in my first church. Pam and I have enjoyed this extended time of reflecting, reconnecting, worshipping together, and just enjoying being with each other. I hope that your experience has been the same with your own family.

During this time, I also began doing something that I have neglected for many years, exercising. Pam has always exercised, and she would invite Catherine and me to join her, well we finally did. I pumped up the tires on my bike and logged around thirty total miles and I began walking with Pam. Since the quarantine began, we have walked 32 different days and logged over sixty miles (which is normal for Pam but a lot for me). People say it takes around 60 days to form a new habit and now I believe them. I actually look forward to my walks with Pam and Catherine now.

The question that I have been working through personally and for the church during this down time is, what do we need to bring back and what needs to remain dormant? I don’t have the answer to this question yet, but it is something that we should all consider. This time of quarantine has been a refreshing time for many people, and we should all decide what is important and what has been a distraction for you and my family. I hope that I will chose to focus on what is important and not allow the distractions back into my daily life. For the church, we need to focus on investing our time and resources in what is mission essential, which is making disciples.

Deer Park’s plan to resume meeting together again on the church property is included in this newsletter. I understand that no plan is perfect, but the deacons and I believe that this is the wisest plan for the Deer Park family. Our re-entry plan is conservative, and it is fluid, meaning things may change depending on what happens with the virus and what recommendations the CDC gives over the coming months. Dates will be assigned to the different phases when we feel it is safe for us to move to the next phase. Thank you for being patient during this time and for your continued support of our church family.

When we return to meeting in person, please respect social distancing guidelines as you interact with others. None of us should make others feel uncomfortable by getting too close to them. I am looking forward to the time that we can gather again, and I am looking forward to seeing how God is going to use this for His glory through His church. \

I love being your pastor! Stephen

Due to Covid-19 guidelines and in an effort to keep children and workers safe, Vacation Bible School that was scheduled for June 14-18, has been canceled. However, we are tentatively planning to reschedule VBS for August (dates TBD).

We will update you on specific plans through future newsletters and other forms of media such as our website and FaceBook. If you were a leader or worker for June’s VBS and would still be willing and available to help in August for a more condensed version of VBS, please contact Christiana Harper at 843.329.9077 to ensure we would have a sufficient number of volunteers in this age of social/physical distancing.

Children’s Ministry (VBS Update)

Thank You From The Romania Mission Team

The Romania Mission Team wants to thank everyone for their prayers, encouragement, and financial support during our trip in March. We had a great trip. We know everyone was concerned about Nancy but she got along very well. We were able to witness people in their homes and on the streets. We participated in worship services, AWANAS, and craft ministries. We had one profession of faith from a young man that Bob was able to witness to one on one at his work. We had another example of how God provides for the needs of his people. During a meeting with the pastor and his wife we decided their most pressing need was to replace the leaking roof on their house. We received a bid of $3500. The family had some money in their renovation fund left over from previous trips. We combined that with funds donated by church members and funds we had left over from our food and lodging expenses. The total of all three of these sources totaled exactly $3500. Praise the Lord!

Thanks, Bill Van Bibber

Guiding Principal - No one wants to contract a potentially deadly disease or have that disease spread to their loved ones who may be at a very high risk of bad outcomes. As we are called to love our neighbors as ourselves, our goal is to love our neighbors by taking the precautions that are recommended by health officials to minimize the danger of spreading the novel coronavirus.

With the exception of Phase One, phases outlined below do not have dates assigned to them as we are in a situation that changes daily with the Covid-19 virus. The church will be given advanced notice before we enter the next phase of our re-entry plan. Please be patient during this time. This is the first time any of us have faced a pandemic and there is no model for us to follow as we responsibly begin meeting together again.

During all phases, we will continue to broadcast the service on

Facebook, YouTube, and the phone live stream.

Phase One (Begins Sunday, May 24) We will have an outdoor worship service from 10:00-10:45 a.m. for at least two Sundays. ~People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to sit in during the service while practicing social distancing. ~The service will be broadcasted through an FM Transmitter for those who would prefer to sit in their cars during the service. ~Please follow the directions of our volunteers as you park. ~Bathrooms will be available for emergency use only. ~No childcare or children’s activities will be provided during Phase One. ~No other activities will resume at Deer Park during Phase One. Phase Two Worship services (probably two services depending on social distancing guidelines at the time) will be moved back into the Worship Center. The Worship Center seating will be modified to promote social distancing. ~Strict guidelines must be followed by those who attend worship during Phase Two. ~No childcare or children’s activities will be provided during Phase Two. ~No other activities will begin at Deer Park during Phase Two.

Phase Three Continue worship services as outlined in Phase Two.

Resume Sunday School in a modified approach to observe social distancing.

Extended session will resume during one of the worship services.

Phase Four Resume normal ministry activities.

Please do not participate until you feel safe attending church.

Re-Entry Plan for Deer Park Baptist Church

Since the time this article was written, Mrs. Nancy Clemmons passed away. We as a church family are so thankful she was able to go on this mission trip to spread the Good News and the love of Jesus with the Romanian people.
