From Our Pastors

Brothers and sisters from across the South Carolina Annual Conference, welcome to the Lyttleton Street location of our United Methodist Church! We come from many different places and congregations, but our gathering this weekend is a visible reminder that we are one in Christ and one in mission. Our celebration of the Eucharist today is an outward and visible reminder that we are one.

As United Methodists, we are part of the second largest Protestant denomination in the United States, and our global connection includes approximately 12.8 million members. We are connected in doctrine, discipline, polity, faith, mission and witness, baptism and our love of God. Today we at Lyttleton Street are honored to host this august gathering for corporate worship.

As we gather this morning, may God bless our worship, our time of competition, and those moments of fellowship between old and new friends.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the 2019 SCMYP Tournament Committee, all the coaches and players, and the many volunteers who gave countless hours of service so this weekend’s event was possible.

Again, thank you for worshiping with us today, and welcome! Revs. J. Michael Arant and Meegian Gossard

From Our Director of Youth and Children

Welcome to Lyttleton Street UMC! Our staff and congregation are excited to host the 2019 SCMYP Basketball Tournament and hope you are finding our community to be warm and welcoming. This is the first time this tournament has been held in the Hartsville District, so this is new to our area. We are so pleased to have our District Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Robin Dease, here today to deliver our message.

A huge thanks goes to my fellow 2019 Tournament Design Team for their hard work making this weekend a success: Chris Lynch, Tom Parker, Brad Gray, Tom Buchanan, David Boudolf, Ed Stallworth, William Owens, and Chris Carver.

It is impossible for me to list all of our church members who have contributed so much, so to our coaches, gym coordinators, concession/scoreboard/bookkeeping volunteers, food preparers, all who have prayed for a successful weekend, Sunday school classes, and everyone else… THANK YOU! You have gone above and beyond and I appreciate YOU!

To my co-workers…what would I do without you? Aside from helping me keep track of my keys, cell phone & glasses, you are the best team! Thank you!

Visitors, please come back and worship with us any time you are in our area. May God bless you and keep you in this new year and always! Mary Abbott Director of Youth and Children 2019 Tournament Chair

*CHIMING OF THE TRINITY *CALL TO WORSHIP Rev. Meegian Gossard

Leader: And God says, “I will pour out of my Spirit on all people. People: Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young will see visions, your elders will dream dreams.” Let us worship God in the power of the Spirit.

*HYMN “Marching to Zion” MARCHING TO ZION

*INVITATION, CONFESSION, AND PARDON Leader: […] therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another. People: Merciful God,

we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Come, we that love the Lord, and let our joys be known; join in a song with sweet accord, and thus surround the throne. Refrain: We’re marching to Zion, beautiful, beautiful Zion; we’re marching upward to Zion, the beautiful city of God.

Let those refuse to sing who never knew our God; but children of the heav'nly King may speak their joys abroad. [Refrain] Then let our songs abound, and ev'ry tear be dry; we're marching through Emmanuel's ground to fairer worlds on high. [Refrain]

* All who are able, please stand.

[…] In the name of Jesus Christ, You are forgiven! In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. Glory to God. Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

God, your voice moves over the waters. Immerse us in your grace, mark us with your images, and raise us to live our baptismal vows empowered by the Holy Spirit and the example of Christ our Lord, in whose name we pray. Amen.

2019 SCMYP BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT REPORT Chris Lynch INTRODUCTION OF GUEST PREACHER Rev. Michael Arant

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that, as the Scriptures are read and your Word proclaimed, we may hear with joy what you say to us today. Amen.

NEW TESTAMENT LESSON Philippians 2:1-5

If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, 2 make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. 5 Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus[.]

Praise God from whom all blessing flow; praise God, all creatures here below: Alleluia! Alleluia!

Praise God, the source of all our gifts! Praise Jesus Christ, whose power uplifts!

Praise the Spirit, Holy Spirit! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

SERMON “The Greatest Team of All” Rev. Dr. Robin Dease SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION

Leader: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you.

Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

[…] we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

[…] in union with Christ’s offering for us as we proclaim the mystery of faith:

[…] All honor and glory is yours, almighty God, now and forever.

COMMUNION MEDITATION It Is Well Kristene DiMarco elevate! Band

Grander earth has quaked before Moved by the sound of His voice Seas that are shaken and stirred Can be calmed and broken for my regard Through it all through it all My eyes are on You Through it all through it all It is well Through it all through it all My eyes are on You It is well with me Far be it from me to not believe Even when my eyes can't see And this mountain that's in front of me Will be thrown into the midst of the sea

So let go my soul and trust in Him The waves and wind still know His name

It is well with my soul It is well with my soul It is well with my soul It is well it is well with my soul

*HYMN O, How I Love Jesus O HOW I LOVE JESUS

*BENEDICTION Rev. Michael Arant POSTLUDE O, How I Love Jesus O HOW I LOVE JESUS

There is a name I love to hear, I love to sing its worth; it sounds like music in my ear, the sweetest name on earth.

Refrain: O how I love Jesus, O how I love Jesus, O how I love Jesus, because he first loved me!

It tells me of a Savior's love, who died to set me free; it tells me of his precious blood, the sinner's perfect plea. [Refrain]

It tells of one whose loving heart can feel my deepest woe; who in each sorrow bears a part that none can bear below. [Refrain]
