Begin your global travels with 4-H Make your 2019 an international summer! Here are outbound travel dates:

Eligibility:

• Age 12-18 for Japan & South Korea and age 15-18 for Costa Rica &

Finland from the first day to the last day of the exchange.

These programs enhance the 4-H program through international, cross-cultural experiences that enable young people to

improve their leadership and communication skills, while increasing their international awareness and understanding.

Selected delegates will be placed with a host family where they will experience family life, community activities and be

immersed in the local culture of the country. With 4-H exchange opportunities, you are not just a tourist, but also a fami-

ly member and expected to participate in all aspects of family and community life the program has to offer. Check out

the information for each country online @ go.illinois.edu/global4H.

It’s ‘udderly’ amazing

You don’t need a cow.

You don’t need to like milk (though

you should REALLY like milk).

You don’t need to be taking a dairy

project. All you need to compete in the

State 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl Contest is a

desire to do it. (You would probably do better if you

study, too.) The state contest is Saturday, Feb. 23 at the

Embassy Suites, East Peoria Riverfront Hotel & Confer-

ence Center, 100 Conference Center Drive, East Peoria.

Check in before 11:30 a.m. The first test begins at 11:30

a.m. Contest rounds begin at 1 p.m., and the contest will

be completed by 5 p.m. Participants will need to pay for

their group lunch at the hotel OR you can go (with adult

supervision) across the parking lot to Steak ‘n Shake be-

tween noon and 1 p.m.

Register with your local Extension office before Feb.

15. Questions will cover all aspects of dairy production

and marketing. Study reference sources include the Illi-

nois 4-H dairy manuals plus Hoard's Dairyman Reference

Books, IL Extension Livestock E-Quiz website, Holstein

Foundation website, and Virginia 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl

study materials online.

Teams of four may compete, or individuals can be added

to other groups to form a team. The State 4-H Dairy Quiz

Bowl team will be selected from the eligible 4-H mem-

bers participating at this state contest. Youth 15 to 18 are

eligible for the national team. For information, contact

Dave Fischer @ [email protected] or call 618-830-

4957.
