It has been such an honor to serve as the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center Interim Director for the past six months. It is indeed a privilege to experience the exhibitions, the concerts, the performances, the classes - and to know that we all have such a positive impact on the community. It is the staff and the volunteers that make it all happen, and I want everyone to be aware of all the work that happens behind the scenes. And I want to say thank you to each and every one – without them, the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center would not be the fabulous place that it is today. As the Board of Trustees moves forward with their search

for the next Executive Director, I am confident that they will find a leader with the passion and energy that is shared by everyone here, and he or she will be able to take the Arts Center from being the jewel of Pueblo to being the jewel of the entire state.

Again, thank you for this opportunity, and I hope to see you soon at the Arts Center.

Britta Heermann-Wynne was born in Hamburg, Germany. She studied at the State Opera School of Dance in Hamburg, the Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Munich, the International Centre of Dance in Cannes, France, and under the direction of Ruth Currier, former artistic director of Limon Company, in New York City. Her first professional engagement was in the film, Rheingold, directed by Herbert von Karajan. She then

was contracted with the Music Theater in Revier in Gelsenkirchen for two years. In Italy, Britta was engaged to perform with the Stagione Lirica at the Arena Sferisterio in Maccerata, as well as at an open-air theatre in Bologna performing in such operas as La Boheme and La Traviata. Her next engagement was with The Freiburger Tanz Theatre for two years followed by a six-year engagement with the Tanz-Forum at the Metropolitan Opera House in Cologne, Germany, where she toured many international destinations extensively. During the time in Cologne she performed in two films and worked occasionally with German television programs. After moving to the USA, Britta co-founded the Philadelphia based company At Marah Dance Theatre in 1996 where she performed many leading roles with the company and served as company and trainee program instructor. From 2004 to 2011 she served as a faculty member at the Belhaven University dance department and as rehearsals director for TALK Dance Co. Since 2009 Britta is studying to become a Feldenkrais Practitioner, Britta will complete her studies in December 2013. Britta is the wife of Stephen Wynne, artistic director of Sangre de Cristo School of Dance.

Jamie Thompson is from Belize, Central America, and is a graduate of Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi, where he received his Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Dance Performance and Choreography. He received additional training from the Belize National Dance Company and the Dramatic Forces School of Dance. He has served as a dancer, choreographer and teacher with the Belize National Dance Company. Mr. Thompson has served as artistic director for

plays presented by the Rotary Club of Belize (2006-2009), directing four plays written by Caribbean playwright Patrick Brown. His special interests include teaching and working with organizations that work for the betterment and development of youth. He is currently in his third season with the Dallas Black Dance Theatre.

DeMarcus Suggs began his professional training under the tutelage of Marcus Sherman with Vision Theatre Charlotte. He continued his studies at Zion Worship Center for the Arts (Charlotte, NC), Dance Central, Masterworks Festival and the USA International Ballet Competition/School. In 2011, he received his B.F.A. in dance from Belhaven University (Jackson, MS) where he was a full-tuition scholarship recipient. While at Belhaven, DeMarcus was selected for the 2009 Bezalel

Award for Outstanding Artistic Achievement and was also a member of TALK Dance Company with whom he toured internationally. Mr. Suggs dances with the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC), where he has been a member since 2011.

Through July 13, 2013 Sight and sound come together in a brilliant display of one of a kind hand crafted musical instruments and exquisitely created wooden sculptures. The richness of exotic woods and warm natural forms come vividly to life in the hands of David & Annie Enke. Their instruments and sculptures inspire us to go deeper, to reach inside and reflect on the beauty of nature and the limitlessness of the human imagination. This exclusive Sangre de Cristo Arts Center show will feature live performances throughout the exhibition, including educational journeys into the nature of sound and how vibrational waveforms interact to create and enhance the world we live in. It’s a memorable eye and ear opening experience for people of all ages.

David ENKE David Enke has been designing and building musical

instruments for over 35 years and is considered one of today’s premier experimental designers. His instruments are based on a deep understanding of the principals

of sound, harmony, and resonance, and have a richness of tone that brings added life and beauty

to whatever style of music is being performed on them. An apprentice of renowned builder

Steve Klein, David’s instruments can be found in private collections and in the hands of discriminating players around the world.

Annie Enke Intrigued by the unique patterns, colors and

inclusions found naturally in wood, Annie Enke began her exploration of wood as an artistic medium in the 1990’s. Annie’s work is infused with deep mystical themes and reflections of

ancient civilizations.

Combining these elements with a palette of rare and exotic woods, her work manifests the melding of

reality and dreams. Annie’s work gives viewers a glimpse of the timeless essence behind the surface of reality. Fascinated by the concept

of containment, Annie’s work incorporates hidden drawers and chambers. Each piece

invites her audiences inside.

Flawlessly executed and full of life, Annie’s work has won numerous 1st place and people’s choice

awards and she has gained the respect of both seasoned woodworkers and art critics alike.

AUG 3 – OCT 26, 2013 In the study of Chaos Theory it has recently been found that any chaotic system has within it the tendency to work its way towards order, beginning in a specific domain and spreading throughout the system. Early computer modeling showed these domains to be rare and elusive, thus they were termed “Strange Attractors.” Jeff Richards’ artwork, in a peculiar way, is his own way of searching for these Strange Attractors, these domains of order within chaos, wherein the seeds of coherence and beauty lie. Often distant as a faint echo, or lost in cold and claustrophobic darkness, the Strange Attractors yet call. An ethereal display of embroidery thread on painted board.

Montana Cole has always been interested in photography and nature. These photos are the result of her passion for both.

The Journey of Travels has taken her to Nepal, Thailand, Argentina, New Zealand and many more wonderful places. Her dedication to the environment is why she loves photographing nature. She has a formal education in Environmental Studies and knows the importance of the interconnectivity with our biosphere and us.

“As a living breathing planet, we cannot forget what a large part the natural environment plays in our lives. I hope to bring awareness for more conservation.”
