Requirements for Employment

A. Must be a registered student for the fall semester at Nova Southeastern University, meeting the minimum academic requirements of the academic department

B. Undergraduate students must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA. Graduate students, must have the minimum cumulative GPA required for that graduate program

C. Must be in good judicial standing with the University (i.e. not above “Written Warning”) and adhere to the guidelines to the Residential Living Guide (https://www.nova.edu/publications/res_living_guide/index.html )

D. Willingness to make a commitment from May 8, 2017—August 16, 2017 E. No Outside employment or internship while in the Summer Housing Assistant position. F. Must successfully pass Level 2 background check administered by Nova Southeastern

University or outside agencies Primary Job Functions

A. General a. Demonstrate effective listening skills b. Fulfill administrative requirements promptly and efficiently (i.e., incident reports,

programming reports, maintenance request forms, etc.) c. Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and staff training sessions d. Remain in the residence halls on all weeknights and weekends e. Maintain punctuality when reporting to work f. Adhere to basic requirement and employment expectations and other duties as assigned

B. Advisor and Customer Service a. Serve as a concerned, non-judgmental advisor, whose goal is to assist residents,

campers and camp supervisors in resolving problems b. Display interest and sensitivity to the concerns of our diverse residents and camp

population c. Be visible and available on the floor to speak to residents and camp participants about

Nova Southeastern University and interests d. Conduct tours of the residence halls in Leo Goodwin and Commons during orientation

sessions e. Treat residents, campers and camp supervisors fairly and impartially

C. Procedures and Facilities

a. Assist in the opening and closing of the halls during the summer, as coordinated by the Summer Conference Coordinators and Associate Director of Housing

b. Conduct check-in and check-out of camps while present in the residence halls c. Meet with residents and individual camps on your floor to go over rules and

regulations d. Be familiar with the building fire alarm system and familiarize residents with hall

evacuation and other emergency procedures e. Regularly report housekeeping and maintenance needs, as well as repair requests,

which affect the safety and security of the residents and campers (i.e. stairway and hallway lights, damage to door lock mechanisms).

f. Must be able to assist in the lifting of university furniture, and other items on a needed basis in preparations for summer camps and housing check-in

g. Moves furniture or other office/classroom items in support of the set-up and take down activities for meetings, classroom activities, or conferences. The average weight of each piece of furniture is approximately 30-40lbs.

h. Move office, conference room, or classroom furniture such as desks, chairs, cabinets, easels, bookcases, etc. within rooms and/or across campus and between buildings. The average weight of each piece of furniture is approximately 30-40lbs.

i. Must adhere to all safety standards and work practices established by the Office of Residential Life and Housing

j. Ensure room preparation and readiness for each camp in attendance

D. On-Call Response and Policy a. Encourage compliance with University policies and Summer Camp and Conference

policies b. Serve on call for your residence hall on an assigned rotating basis, and in emergency

situations c. Remain in assigned building while on-call d. Work the security desk daily from the hours of 7pm-11pm in order to develop a rapport

with residents and camp attendees e. Treat sensitive information confidentially and respond positively to crisis situations f. Educate campers on the safety and security issues and the role they play g. Report housekeeping and maintenance needs in a timely manner and follow up with the

student

Additional Requirements A. Able to lift up to 30-40lbs multiple times throughout the day with assistance from other NSU

Summer Housing Assistant staff B. Must be able to provide the Office of Residential Life & Housing with a flexible summer

schedule C. Act as moderator for camps while in attendance at Nova Southeastern University

Remunerations

A. All Summer Housing Assistant staff member will receive a stipend of $1,500 which equates to $187.50 bi-weekly

B. All staff will receive $500 in declining balance funds which will be added to their Sharkcard

C. Summer Housing Assistant staff will be assigned to a room either in Leo Goodwin, The Commons Residence Hall, FFV Residence Hall, or The Cultural Living Center

D. All Summer Housing Assistant staff are afforded eight vacation days during the period of employment (May 8, 2017 – August 16, 2017)
