    Staying in Summer Housing is more than just having aplace to sleep. USC offers a number of services that canmake your time with us safer and more enjoyable.

    USCard 213.740.8709Simplify your summer with the USCard, an ID card thatcan be used as a debit card on campus, and more impor-tantly, is required to gain entry to housing assignment.Getting your USCard right away is important, becauseyoull need it to move in. Check the USCard websitewww.usc.edu/uscard for information about obtainingyour card.

    Cashiers Office 213.740.7471The Universitys Cashiers Office is located on the maincampus. (The office is moving and the new location willbe fixed by early May, 2012.) Hours are 9 am to 4:30

    pm, Monday through Friday. Summer residents who arerequired to pay for their rent prior to check-in will need tocontact them in person or by phone to pay for their rentbefore checking in.

    Guest Housing 213.743.5200Guest Housing accommodations are available from May21 August 10, 2012 on a first-come, first-served basis atCardinal Gardens Apartments.

    A complex of townhouse-style located directly across fromcampus at the corner of Jefferson and Hoover, CardinalGardens offers one and two bedroom air-conditionedapartments for long term stays (to a maximum of 29nights). Although the facilities have kitchens, kitchenwareand supplies are not included. Linens, changed everyother day, are provided.

    For reservations or more information on apartment-styleguest housing during the summer, please contact theCardinal Gardens CSC at (213) 743-5200 or by e-mailat [email protected].

    All fees must be paid in advance for the entire stay.Payment must be made on-site by cash, credit card(Mastercard, Visa or Discover only), Travelers Check orUSC departmental internal requisition prior to check-in.There is a maximum stay of 29 nights.     Public Safety 213.740.6000The USC Department of Public Safety and ResidentialProtection personnel monitors each complex.A computerized entry and monitoring system is installedin most USC Housing facilities. This system helps promotethe safety of your home away from home whilemaintaining freedom and convenience.

    Recreational Sports 213.740.5127With their USCard summer residents may purchase aguest pass granting access (day, week, month or extendedlength) to USCs convenient on-campus recreationalfacilities and sports programs. A weight room, personal

    trainers, basketball and racquetball courts, sauna, jacuzzi,Olympic-sized pool, basketball and softball leagues, andgolf outings are just some of the activities offered.

    If you do not already have a ten digit USC identificationnumber, you must contact the USC Program Coordinatorfor your summer program prior to applying for Summer

    Housing. Your Program Coordinators will then need tocontact the Office of the Registrar to request a ten digitID number for you so that you can apply for USC SummerHousing.

    age requirement

    Residents must be 18 years or older to live in universityhousing over the summer. Applicants younger than 18must be part of a conference or program group arranginghousing through Conference Services. (See pg 5)

    family housing

    USC Summer Housing is for single students only, andall housing for two or more is for a single gender.Unfortunately, married couples and single parentswith a child or children cannot be accommodated.

    USCs Summer Housing program is intended tosupport the academic activities of USC students anddepartments. Applicants must meet eligibility criteria tapply for Summer Housing.

    contract terms

    length of contractIn order to provide residents with the flexibility to matchcontract dates with their needs, we have provided a listof contract periods from which to choose. (Please see thetable below.) Applicants should request the length of theircontract by selecting from this list when completing theirSummer Housing application.

    You will be responsible for the entire term of the signedhousing contract, so please select your dates carefully.

    The dates selected will determine the length of your legalcontract. While you may check in later than the contract

    start date, and check out earlier than the contract enddate, this will not affect the term of the contract. You willbe responsible for the rent as indicated on the contract,whether or not you occupy the space.

    Sorry - arrivals earlier than the contract start date will notbe permitted.

    live-through arrangementsLive-through housing is available for USC Housingresidents needing a place to stay between the end oftheir Spring 2012 contract and the start of their summercontract, or the end of their summer contract and the starof their Fall 2012 contract. Such stays must be approvedby the appropriate Customer Service Centers for theassignments involved.

    Students holding Spring 2012 contracts and requiringa place to stay from May 9 to the start of SummerHousing on May 14 will need to indicate this on theSummer Housing Application and complete an authorizedLate Vacate Request form, obtained from their currentCSC. The form must be submitted to their current CSC nolater than April 20.

    Residents holding Fall 2012 contracts and requiring aplace to stay from the end of Summer Housing onAugust 8 to August 21, must complete an authorizedLate Vacate Request form, obtained from theircurrent CSC. The form must be submitted to theircurrent CSC no later than July 20.

    Summer to Fall l ive-throughs will require relocation beforeAugust 21 if the Summer and Fall assignments differ.

    A live-through fee of $25 per night will be assessedfor the interim days of approved live-through stays.

    buy-outs

    Due to the need to provide housing to as many applicantsas possible from a limited number of spaces available forthe summer, requests for individual applicants to buy-outan entire room or apartment will be considered dependenon space and availability. Please contact the USC Housingoffice for more information regarding buy-outs.

    Your housing contract is a legally binding documentthat you should read through carefully beforeconfirming it. In addition, all residents - students andnon-students alike - will be held responsible forcompliance with the Universitys student conductstandards, as outlined in the contract agreement.

    consolidationIn an effort to provide maximum Summer Housing forour customers, USC Housing reserves the right,under the terms of the housing contract, to require aresident at any time during the term to move fromtheir space/apartment originally assigned to a differentspace/apartment.

    USC Housing Senior Managers or their CSC staff mayreassign residents in the event of spaces becoming vacantwithin an apartment or building used for summer 2012assignments. This means, for example that if two residentsare each living in separate one bedroom apartments with-out a roommate, Housing staff may reassign them intoone apartment. Some residents may be required to movefrom their current Spring 2012 assignment into a differentroom for their Summer 2012 assignment if the CSC staffneed to consolidate spaces.

    cancellation and release procedures

    All cancellation requests must be made in writing and aresubject to review by USC Housing. Cancellation requestforms may be printed out from the forms section of ourwebsite at housing.usc.edu. Please note that the $45Application Processing Fee is non-refundable, even if

    cancellation of a Summer Housing application or assign-MENT IS GRANTED "E SURE TO ASK FOR A RECEIPT CARD FOR YOURrecords to confirm the date we received your request.

    Canceling an Application

    Applications may be cancelled at any time before anassignment has been made by submission of a writtenand signed request.

    Canceling an Assignment

    Once an assignment has been made for you, you mayrequest cancellation any time prior to confirming thecontract. Let us know as soon as possible if you will nolonger need the space assigned to you so we can offer itto another Summer Housing applicant.

    Requesting Release from a Confirmed Contract

    Once you have accepted and confirmed your assignment,your contract is a legally binding document. If extenuat-ing or unanticipated circumstances arise after you haveconfirmed, you may request release from your summercontract. Requests are submitted to the USC Housing0ETITION "OARD AND GRANTED ONLY IN SELECT RESTRICTEDcircumstances. Please contact the central Housing officefor additional information on submitting a petition.

    Because registration for classes is not a requirementfor eligibility for Summer Housing, non-registrationfor classes is not a valid reason for release from yourcontractual obligation. Such requests will not begranted. 0LEASE SEE SUBSECTION " Summer SessionHousing of your living agreement.)

    If a release is granted, the resident must secure aContract Release form from USC Housing beforethe contract will actually be cancelled. If you have alreadychecked-in to your Summer Housing assignment, this formshould be shown to the Customer Service Center whenyou check out. Please keep your copy for your records. If

    contract release is granted, the Confirmation Payment wilbe forfeited and the resident will be responsible for rentincurred up to the date of cancellation or when keysare returned (whichever is later).

    Note: In order to complete an application for SummerHousing, you must have a ten-digit USC identificationnumber. (If you do not have an ID number, see USCStudent Identification Number, p 3.)

Once you have registered with USC

    Housing, we will e-mail you a password. Your user name(your 10-digit USC ID number) and password will allowyou to access our website to change your profile, completea housing application, find out about your housingassignment and search for roommates.

    Only new applicants need to register; applicants with anactive housing contract or application should skip theregistration process.

    ApplicationIn this section you will provide us with contact informationand create a profile that will assist us in assigningyou housing.

    You will also need to indicate your class standing. Currentresident and USC students with an active application shouldindicate their class standing for Fall 2012. All others shouldselect the class standing that most accurately reflects theirclass standing at their home institution.

Use the building descriptions in thisbrochure or on our website to help you decide what is bestfor you. You will need to list five choices, in the order ofpreference (i.e. your first choice should be the space that youwould most want to be assigned to). Since Summer Hous-ing assignments are made based on availability, your requestscannot be guaranteed, but well do the best we can to placeyou according to your preferences.

    Application FeeUSC Housing cannot process your application withoutpayment of the $45 non-refundable application fee.

    (This fee cannot be waived.) Non-USC degree seekingapplicants will be required to pay the application fee by

    credit card. Current residents will skip this screen and thefee will be charged to their student accounts.

    At this point your application for Summer Housing iscomplete. You will be sent an e-mail to let you know thatyour application has been received.

    Roommates (Optional)If there is a specific individual with whom you want to live,you will need to know the students ten digit student IDor screen name. Enter this information on the Add NewRoommate page of the application process. Your room-mate will need to confirm this request for it to

    be considered.

    If you do not have a specific roommate in mind, ourroommate matching process (available online only) willhelp you find potential roommates based on the answersyou provided in your profile. If you want to use our onlineRoommate Search and Message feature, be sure to checkthe Include in Search box when you are applying. Youwill also need to create a screen name that you will use inTHE ROOMMATE MATCHING PROCESS "ETWEEN THE TIME YOUapply and receive your assignment, you can search forroommates. Using our website, you can use screen namesto anonymously contact anyone you think may be a good

    match for you. If you find someone compatible, both youand your potential roommate should log on to our systemand mutually acknowledge each other to confirm thematch as a roommate request.

    Potential roommates will be limited to Summer applicantsof your gender, who have selected the same SummerHousing contracting period as you did.

    While we will try to honor your roommate request,it cannot be guaranteed.

    Non-USC degree seeking students muprovide proof of affiliation with USC in ordto be considered for Summer Housing. (SEligibility, pg 3) This proof may be submittby e-mail, fax, mail, or in person and must clude the applicants full name and ten diUSC identification number. While applicanmay complete an application prior to proving proof of eligibility, they can not be asigned housing without it. Delay in submittiproof can affect an applicants assignme

    All current Spring 2012 Housing residents who apply forSummer Housing and pay the $45 Application Fee byApril 2, 2012, will be assigned first. Assignments will beoffered using the following criteria, in the order listed:

    Current USC Housing Residents Who Applied by theApril 2 Deadline

    These applicants will be notified by e-mail on April 11,2012 that they have a summer assignment pending anddirected back to our website to log on to confirm theircontract. The contract must be confirmed by April 16 orthe assignment will be cancelled.

    Current USC Housing Residents Who Apply afterApril 2 and All Other Applicants

    These applicants will be notified by e-mail when theirassignment is made and directed back to our website tolog on to confirm their contract. The contract must beconfirmed by the deadline provided or the assignment wilbe cancelled. Non-USC applicants must also pay the $400summer Confirmation Payment by their deadline.

    Your Summer Housing assignment will depend on where you request to live, space availabiliAND WHEN YOU TURN IN YOUR APPLICATION "ACHELOR ONE PERSON STUDIO ONE OR TWO PERSON Aone bedroom (two person) accommodations are in high demand and short supply, so the prability is that you will have more than one roommate. (Please note that the ability to buy-ouadditional spaces in your apartment is subject to space and availability.) If you meet the Apr2 priority deadline, youll have the best chance of getting the assignment you want. Unfortunately it is not possible to guarantee that we will be able to assign you to one of your choice

    smoke-free environment policyThe University has a smoke-free policy to meet the needsof residents who prefer to live in a smoke-free environ-ment. Therefore, all University Park (on-campus), NorthUniversity Park (off-campus) and Health Sciences Campushousing facilities are smoke-free environments, wheresmoking is not allowed even if a roommate givesconsent and even if the resident is the sole occupant ofthe residence hall or apartment. All common areas,including apartment balconies, of any housing facilityare also designated as non-smoking areas.

    health and safetyThe room/apartment must be kept reasonably clean andobstruction-free so as not to promote pest infestationor other health and safety concerns. Housing Staffmembers may conduct inspections during your occupancyto ensure that these standards are being met.

    guest policy

    Overnight guests are limited to three consecutive nights,must have the consent of all roommates, and must beregistered at the Customer Service Center. Residents areresponsible for the behavior of their guests and any

    damage caused by these guests. The University reservesthe right to require guests of residents to leave if they arein violation of University regulations, federal, state or locallaws, and/or are disturbing other residents.

    luggage/packages

    Luggage not brought in-hand should be sent prepaidto arrive after you check-in. Storage space is notavailable, and the University cannot accept deliveryof luggage or packages arriving before you check-in.

    prohibited possessions

    The following are some of the items not permitted inUniversity facilities: cooking equipment and appliances(except in living units with kitchens), electrical applianceswhich are not UL approved and labeled, halogen(torcheire) lamps, pets, pianos, explosives, fireworks,flammable materials, firearms and other weapons, suchas gas or spring-operated guns. Illegal drugs are notpermitted. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in accor-dance with the law and University policy (except in rooms

    contracted to residents of age 21 or over). See sectionH - Prohibited Possessions and Behaviors, of the livingagreement for details.

    paying for Summer HousingThere are several types of fees and charges associated withyour Summer Housing contract. All housing fees and rentcharges must be paid before summer residents may check in.

    application processing fee

    A $45 non-refundable Application Processing Fee is duewith your application. No application will be processedwithout this payment.

    website must pay by credit or debit car d usingthe payment feature of the online process.
