Birthday Bash
Every Monday & Wednesday 23rd July – 29th August 2018 10am – Late You’re invited to the ultimate party to celebrate our 175th birthday throughout the Summer Holidays here at Blackgang Chine! Every Monday and Wednesday from the 23rd July to 29th August, we will be celebrating our birthday in style with our famous fireworks lighting up the sky and adding some sparkle to your summer! Immerse yourself in our theatrical live-action Cowboy Show, have your photo taken with the stars of the show, then decide whose side you’re on… whether you’re locking outlaws up in jail or staging the biggest bank robbery Cowboy Town has ever seen, the possibilities are endless! Be enchanted by our fairy show, as the Fairy Queen and her friends bring a touch of magic to the celebrations. Hear the stories of our loveable dragon Cedric and his friend’s haphazard adventures in our new Dragon Tales. Our Potion Emporium will be open to create your own potions and take the magic home with you. Plus, take part in our circus workshop, and amaze your friends with all the tricks you can do. To keep the Birthday Bash booming, DJ Omar will be bringing the celebrations to Pirate Cove and providing the soundtrack to the biggest party this summer, before the fireworks bring the evening to a spectacular close! But if you can’t make the party, you can meet our characters every day during the Summer holidays, as they roam the park causing mayhem every step of the way! The ever-popular Summer Reading Challenge is set to return in 2018, starting in all island libraries on Saturday 14
July and running until early September. This year's challenge is called Mischief Makers, inspired by The Beano, the
much-loved children's comic which is celebrating its 80th birthday in 2018. Children can join Dennis, Gnasher, and
other friends both old and new, as they explore their colourful collector's map of Beanotown. As they read library
books throughout the summer, they will collect special stickers to help them find the mysterious buried treasure. As
usual, there will be other exciting rewards along the way, culminating in a medal and certificate for every child who
reads six books over the holidays.
The Summer Reading Challenge website helps you keep track of your reading all year round: find new books to read,
take part in competitions and play games.
