The Annual Patriotic Bike Parade!* July 4, Bike decorating begins at 4:30pm

Parade starts promptly at 5:15pm Sea Forest Drive at East Beach Village

Join in on our fun tradition! Patriots of all ages are encouraged to join in the parade on bikes, skates, roller blades, or by foot. Parade decorations will be available at 4:30pm on Sea Forest Drive near the East Beach Village. The Kiawah Island Fire Department will lead the parade followed by Uncle Sam and Betsy Ross. This year’s route leads participants down Sea Forest Drive, from the East Beach Village and finishes at Night Heron Park, where everyone is invited to join us for our Independence Festival. Complimentary.

Bike Parade Road Closures: On July 4, Sea Forest Drive will be closed to thru traffic at the Sea Forest Drive/East Beach Village intersection from 4:30pm until 5:30pm. In addition, residents and guests in Mariners Watch and Windswept villas will experience temporary road delays between 5:15pm - 5:45pm. Let the fun begin! This festival will kick off following the parade at Night Heron Park with many attractions for family and friends to enjoy! Beach music from the Headliners. Festivities include: tye dye, face painting, children’s train, carnival games, and much more! Food and beverage tickets will be on sale at Night Heron Park throughout the day and at the event. Food will be served until 9pm. Menu will include: Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Corndogs, Mac & Cheese, Ribs, Pulled Pork, Shrimp Skewers, Peel & Eat Shrimp, Corn Muffins, Green Beans, Rice, & Watermelon. Food prices range between $5-$15. No coolers please. Fireworks will be held on Night Heron Park’s soccer field at 9:15pm. In the event of inclement weather, fireworks will be displayed on Friday, July 5.

If your family is biking to the bike parade and festival, we do not encourage biking home after dark. Bikes may be locked up overnight in the park and transportation shuttles are available to the Straw Market in West Beach or the East Beach Conference Center.

GPS Island Hunt Heron Park Nature Center Open Daily,

Want to explore the Island, but don’t know where to go? Then come rent one of our handheld GPS systems and choose one of the adventurous routes preloaded on the GPS. These routes will take you to all of the favorite spots around the Island all while having fun finding the hidden clues that will unlock the treasure at the end. This is an unsupervised event. The GPS’s can be rented at the Heron Park Nature Center for 3½ hours, Mon.-Fri., 9am or 1pm. Reservations required. $25/GPS. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Need a ball to play games in the park? Come to the Heron Park Nature Center to check out a sports ball at the front desk for daily use. Bring your resort amenity card or a $20 refundable deposit during Nature Center hours.

Pick Up Games Pick Up Games will be held Daily, 6pm - 7pm

Families are welcome to stop by for pick up games every night. These un-supervised games will take place in Night Heron Park at their respective field or court. Remember to bring your game ball! After you have taken Glass Fusing 101, try your hand at some new techniques! This class includes a white or black 3” tile as your background and a clear tile on top of your masterpiece to complete it! New techniques include Gold, Silver, and/or Copper Leaf, Aluminum, GlassLine Bubbles, GlassLine pens, and sand from Kiawah’s beach! These projects are sure to have a unique and exciting look! Gel Candle MakingThursdays, 9:30am - 10am

Create a one-of-a-kind gel candle to showcase your findings on Kiawah Island! Bring a few small shells and sand you have found on the beach to add to your jar, or use some of ours! This unique class is sure to ignite a smile! Class is $12 a person for ages 8 and up! Candles do take time to cool, they can be picked up later in the day or the day after. Reservations Required.

Wood BurningThursdays, 3:30 - 5pm

Check out this cool class! Wood burning is a unique way to transform a wooden keepsake! We provide the wood craft, tools, and anything you could want to decorate your project after it has been wood burned! Class is $30 a person, for ages 12 and up! Reservations Required.

KnittingFridays, 3:30pm - 5pm

Learn the basics of knitting so you can create cozy scarves and more! We will teach you how to cast on, Knit Stitch, Cast off, and maybe even Purl Stitches too! Class is $30 and includes your own knitting needs and yarn! Ages 8 and up. Reservations Required.

The island’s spot for art workshop and creating masterpieces. Turtles’ Nest is a great indoor area to take a break during rainy days or just plain hot ones! The Turtles’ Nest Art Studio offers over 20 crafts and activities weekly. Our kiln fires your beautiful pottery painting items and glass fusing projects! Pottery Painting can be done at any time during Open Studio. Choose from our wide variety of pottery pieces including banks, pet bowls, picture frames, plates, vases, and more, prices range from $13 to $55. Kiln projects such as pottery painting and class fusing take approximately 4-7 days to complete. Arrangements for shipping can be made at time of purchase. All art classes start at $25. Reservations are required for all classes. The Turtles’ Nest Art Studio is not a drop-off location except for all classes.

Helpful Tips for Parents!1. Reservations are required for Kamp Kiawah. All reservations made in advance will receive a $5 discount/child.

3. Kamp Kiawah takes place under the Night Heron Park Pavilion rain or shine.

4. Kampers should wear their bathing suits under their clothes, along with bringing a towel and sunscreen. Croc-type shoes along with athletic clothes are also recommended. Swimming is weather dependent.

5. Please do not bring valuables and electronics to Kamp Kiawah, as we are not responsible for these items if lost or damaged.

6. Activities are designed specifically for each age group. If siblings need to be in the same age group, the older sibling may move down to the younger childs age group.

7. All Kampers must be 100% potty trained, no pull-ups.

8. If your child’s behavior is a continued distraction, parents will be informed which may result in your child being unable to participate in future Kamp sessions.

9. At least 3 Kampers must be signed up for Kamp to take place.

Located next to the Roy Barth Tennis Center in East Beach, this aquatic facility is reserved exclusively for Kiawah Island Golf Resort guests and Governor’s Club Members 21 years and older. A weekly key pad code is required for entry. Resort guests will be given the access code at Resort Check-in. Members can log into the Governor’s Club website for the access code.

A great way for beginner golfers in the family to get out and learn the game. You and your family now have the chance to play Osprey, Cougar, Turtle and Oak Point Golf Clubs together. Alligator Adventure From hatchlings to six hundred pound males, there are alligators in almost every pond on Kiawah. Travel with us as we search our favorite gator hangouts for these impressive predators. This is a fantastic way to observe and learn about these amazing, misunderstood animals in their natural habitat.

Back Island Birding Kiawah is known for its diversity of birds, from tiny hummingbirds to majestic bald eagles and wood storks. Step back in time and experience Kiawah as the Natives once did. In this class, you will discover the local environment using techniques of the Native Americans while learning their cultural traditions. Enjoy an island hike with the Naturalists and conclude with a project using natural materials.

New! Jr. Naturalist Aquatic Studies: What’s That Water?

About 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered in water! In this class, you will collect water samples from different locations and test it for temperature, salinity, pH and dissolved oxygen. You will also view and learn about organisms that live in Kiawah’s waters.

Jr. Naturalist: Animal Care

If you’ve ever wanted to get behind the scenes of the Nature Center and meet our resident animals face to face, this tour’s for you! Learn what these animals need to survive in the wild and how the Naturalists care for them. We’ll prepare and offer them food and make sure they have a healthy living environment.

Jr. Naturalist: Marsh Ecology

The salt marsh behind the island is packed with wildlife rarely seen and waiting to be discovered. We will meet at Mingo Point Outpost where we will board our motor boat and head out for some on-the-water exploration. From sea squirts, to sponges, these creatures are sure to fascinate.

Jr. Naturalist: Pond Discoveries

Alligators aren’t the only thing living in our ponds. There is a whole world in our ponds that is rarely seen, and this is your chance to get a close-up view. Naturalists and kids will take their very own pond water sample, create a slide, and see what creatures can be seen under our new microscope!

Jr. Naturalist SeriesThe Jr. Naturalist program is a fun, hands-on approach to exploring nature. Each individual class can be taken on its own. However, if you take all 5 classes and complete your Nature Journal, you can become an official Kiawah Island Jr. Naturalist, and receive a free Rite in the Rain notebook to be just like your favorite Naturalist! Each session will target a different area of Kiawah’s Natural History, and give each child a better appreciation of our native species.

Get Lost! Test your navigation skills and embark on a scavenger hunt on Kiawah Island by bicycle using only a compass and a map. Learn the techniques of reading a map to find your way to secret locations. Naturalists will accompany you while you explore the Island by bicycle to find the various checkpoints.
