Welcome Oak Flat Friends and Families

to the Parent-Teacher Organization Newsletter. Our mission is to create a sense of community among parents, teachers and students, and to support and enhance the educational experiences of our children.

Please consider participating in our PTO by becoming a member, joining our fundraising efforts (i.e. BoxTops Bonus App, Shoparoo App, Benefits Mobile App, on-pack Box Top clips, Saylor’s receipts), attending our meetings, and volunteering at our events. We appreciate everyone’s time and help as we strive to make each child’s school experience positive, rewarding, and memorable!

will be covering the following school events: Breakfast with Santa, Winter Event, Roller Skating Club, Restaurant Fundraiser Nights, our Spring Fundraiser Race For Education, Field Trips, K-Registration, Field Day, Carnival Day, and more.

Upcoming Events to watch for: Back-To-School Picnic,

Back-To-School Night, First Day of School, PTO Board/Parents Meetings, Restaurant Nights, Roller Skating Club, our Fall Fundraiser 5K Fun Run,

Scholastic Book fair, and much more. We will be accepting Box Top

Clips again. Please be sure to down load the BoxTops Bonus App,

Breakfast With Santa …. Oak Flat elementary kicked off the

Holiday Season, with its annual Breakfast With Santa. It was a spectacular event with, Santa, 3 Fun Crafts, all of your breakfast favorites, and a Lil’ Shoppers Holiday Shoppe & Gift Wrap Station. We had an amazing 500+

Students and family in attendance, including the Dairy Princess 😊

Restaurant Fundraiser Nights The Oak Flat Elementary PTO was able to offer an awesome Gift Card Special Restaurant Fundraiser late November /early December through Red Robin.

A special THANK YOU

to everyone who was able to join in the Gift Card fun! These gift cards were great to keep for yourself or pass along as a tasty gift. This Fundraiser was a

great success. We earned double rewards, allowing us to raise even more funds for our school just for enjoying our favorite YUMMM with friends.

Your PTO needs your unique talents, whether it’s volunteering a few hours a month or a few hours a year, serving on the board, or attending meetings.

A few examples of what your PTO accomplished during the last school year.

• $3,500 provided to teachers for classroom necessities

All parents are automatically members of the Oak Flat Elementary School PTO, so there are no dues to pay!

Fundraiser nights Continued…

Our next Restaurant Fundraiser Night was held February 6th at Applebee’s in Carlisle.

And we topped off the school year with our final Restaurant Night adventure taking place at the Wendy’s in Shippensburg on April 3rd.

The Restaurant Fundraiser earnings help pay for the students Memory Books, Field Trips, Class Room Supplies and so much more!

Winter Event

2019 Skate Party Hosted by Oak Flat Elementary PTO.

Our Winter Event/Roller Skating Party took place Friday

January 25th at the Carlisle Sports Emporium. Oak

Flat Students and their families had over 350+ in

attendance for the family fun evening event. It was a

SUPER FUN! Thanks to everyone for coming out 😊

Oak Flat PTO Roller Skating Club…

The PTO launched our brand new Roller Skating Club this past March.

The club skates the 2nd Saturday of every Month (with a few exceptions) from 10-Noon at the Red Bridge Roller Skating Rink in Chambersburg. This program is for beginner, youth and parent skaters. Our club has a Group Rate price of a $5 skater entrance fee (for skaters only, includes the price of skates). A Club Membership ID Pass is required at the door to receive the discount. Oak Flat Elementary held its annual Family Fun Night at the Big Spring HS on March 22nd. We had a GREAT Turn out! As always the event was FREE! Everyone brought a snack item to share & joined in the

FAMILY FUN 😊 The gym was open to enjoy some basketball, kick ball, toss a football around, or simply jump rope. The poo was open for swimming. AND… The Common Area was set up with a variety of family fun board games, along with an assortment of snacks and drinks for everyone to enjoy.

SPRING

FUNDRAISER

Race For Education … with a Twist Friday April 12th, Oak Flat Elementary PTO had it’s

Race for Education … with a twist. This fundraiser helped to

raise funds for field trips, student events, memory books, incentives,

classroom supplies & ressources, our OUTDOOR seating project, and the

end-of-year FUN Day. Rather then the usual walk or jog around a

designated area at the school, the students participated in on site or local

community service projects. Our 2019 Community Service Projects

included: Cooking Breakfast for hometown heroes, visitation and special

program for an elderly community, local outdoor clean up, collection

donations for a local animal shelter, and more.

Students returning 1 or more completed mailers to

the school earned a Science Themed “brag tag”.

This was the launch of our new brag tag back pack

incentive/participation reward program.

Congratultions to the 174 Students who earned their

Brag Tag participation rewar!.

Students returning 15 or more completed mailers to the

school, earned an invitatation to the Make Your Own

Sundae Party with Mrs. Kimble. The party was held in the

Art Room on March 20th.

Congratulations to the 80 Students who earned

their invitation to the “Make Your Own Sundae

Party” with Mrs. Kimble!

The students SMASHED their $15,000 goal by bringing in a little over

$16,500 in donatations, earning a school wide celebration. The PTO invited

the ScienceTellers to visit Oak Flat Elementary on May 15th. They

performed two interactive science themed story program assemblies for the

students. The program assemblies were simply AWESOME and enjoyed by

ALL. Congratulations to everyone for a JOB WELL DONE!

OUTDOOR SEATING PROJECT

Attention Oak Flat Families & Friends!! We had a very SPECIAL delivery June 6th.

All of our hard work and fundraising efforts this past year has allowed the PTO to purchase TEN of these AWESOME Octagon Picnic Tables. These beauties seat 8 comfortably (that’s enough seating for 80 students - woot-woot). We have enough for an ENTIRE GRADE to enjoy class, or perhaps even lunch, outside together all at once. Thanks to everyone for all of your support & fundraising efforts throughout the school year.

We’d like to extend a special shout out to Valley View Nursery, Fire House Road in Shippensburg, for graciously working with us to make this happen.
